Jason Giambi has been receiving treatment for a benign tumor in his pituitary gland, the N.Y. Daily News reported. Giambi had refused to disclose the location of the tumor since being diagnosed. The reason for his secrecy was simple: After testifying before a grand jury in the BALCO case and having to deny repeated rumors about steroid use, Giambi was worried a pituitary tumor would make him guilty by association. Pituitary tumors have been associated anecdotally with the use of anabolic steroids and human growth hormones, though no documented studies make the connection.
