Lollapalooza 2004 In The Works

The William Morris Agency and Perry Farrell are currently at work putting together a package for Lollapalooza 2004, tentatively scheduled to go out in July and August. Last year, Lollapalooza returned after a five-year absence, and grossed $13.7 million from 25 shows reported to Billboard Boxscores.

High production costs led to the cancellation of two shows at nontraditional venues on the 2003 route, but most dates performed well. The lineup featured Farrell's Jane's Addiction, Queens Of The Stone Age, Incubus, Audioslave, the Donnas and A Perfect Circle, among others.

Farrell launched Lollapalooza in 1991, with a lineup of Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Ice-T/Body Count, Living Colour, Butthole Surfers and Rollins Band. According to Boxscores, the tour's best year was 1994, when it reported more than $21 million in grosses. The last year before the hiatus was its weakest run, with $7.4 million reported from 24 shows in 1997 with Snoop Dogg, Korn, Tool, Tricky and others.

It is unknown if Jane's Addiction will be a part of the upcoming tour. Late last month, the group canceled a series of shows with Marilyn Manson, citing "exhaustion brought on by a rigorous touring schedule."
