Ok music is subjective.. right?
Well here is how I rated the albums.
http://www.rotharmy.com/discography.shtml

This is the first time I have sat down and thought about it.. and that is what I came up with.

Yes I know a few Classic Van Halen albums were rated lower than DLRBAND!
I know I am going to get some shit for that.. BUT FUCK IT!
I gotta speak the truth and say what I like the best..
All songs judged by the amount of time they spent in the cd player..

Ok.. comments?
Hatemail?

You did a fine job rating these. I would have had VH2 a bit higher, but otherwise you did well.

It was nice to see that Diamond Dave was at the bottom and you made a wise choice listing Dirty Movies as your favorite song off of FW.

DLR7884
My list would be pretty damn close to yours.

The only real surprise is putting any DLR solo album past an original VH album. By default, I just could never do that because of Eddie. Yeah he's a miserable bastard but on those albums he's unmatched.

Are the honest people on these websites going to stand by and let Arielle Bot and hitchWORLD run out the bandwith with CYBER x rated SPAM and PORN? A threat has been relayed to do this so the ARMY WALL (Classic DLR ARMY) will be shut down to give them more room.

A lot of space could be saved if the bullshit repititous stuff on the bottom of each post in all forums was done away with also. And porn done away with, because it will lead to lawsuits (the Sarah Michelle Geller head on the porn body getting anal sex in hitchWORLD...William Morris Agency and her agent Sam Haskell have already sued over that once. If they see it they most likely will sue again)>

Are honest people going to stand idly by and let these forums become total xxxxxporn sites?

David Lee Roth and the Halens could also sue over their names being dragged thru the mud.

Do you want the FBI to shut all these forums down for good as their crack down on porn on the internet?

Where are your guts???? Ban all porn and cyber Porn submitters for your own best interests now!!!!

Dude I have no clue what you are talking about but we will never get rid of nudity on this website. This isn't a official site.
My host allows nudity and there has always been nudity on this website.
I have no problem with it.

I could care less what anyone else thinks..
I am not doing this site to impress anyone in the band.. it's for the fans.
We champion free speech here and anyone who doesn't understand that is free to leave

Anymore posts of this nature in this thread will be sent to the dump..
Furthermore I won't comment or get into a bickering battle with you.
THis is the last time I am commenting on this..

I would have put "Van Halen II" further down the list.

In my opinion it`s the least complete VH release.

Otherwise you might just have got it right, Sarge.

Oh I agree, and I see how you're trying to make a statement by putting DLR Band that high. It's just my opinion that DLR solo is less awesome than any of the original 6 VH albums, even the oft-criticized Diver Down.

Sarge

Diver Down is way better than anything post 1985 Van Halen..
:)

It's good.. It just isn't Fair Warning...

you're right...i am stunned.

"knucklebones" is the best song on "skyscraper..."

actually, when it first came out, i was really high on skyscraper. i was 12. i loved JLP and the video, but once i heard knucklebones, i was completely hooked.

as i've grown a little older, i've started to wean just a bit off of the high use of synth on that album. i still like SS, but i really do wish i heard sheenan's rawer demos.

I think Skyscraper is an underrated disc.
Two Fools a Minute and Hina work well, along with Hot Dog and a Shake.

What surprises me about the album is that Dave bitched about keys during the VH years and here he is using them.
But he uses them for a pop sound instead of just sounding sappy.
I agree with you guys about DLR band CD being phenomenal.

Sarge
01-27-2004, 05:14 PM
SkyScraper is ok..
Knucklebones is great. I didn't like 2 fools a min.
I would have loved to have heard the demos for this cd....

What barriers did SS break?

DLR7884
Oh yeah, the barrier of muting out your bass player. :)

VHII has always been my favorite because of just pure raw songs with humor and a nice vibe to them like WOMEN IN LOVE and BEAUTIFUL GIRLS.....then DOA is spetacular
It was the first record that I bought on CD!!

Any DAVE SOLO is higher then VH because he has progressed and has made far better tunes with better lyrics then in the VH Days...in my opinion of course.

If you don't know, I'm truly a Dave fan not a ED fan....I don't think Ed is that great at all.....Ed showed his true colors in the VAN SPAM years and with Gary. Without Dave, Ed doesn't know how to play well.

Only one song in Van Spam's career that I think he played decent guitar on was the song in the Twister Soundtrack.

So far i've listened to Diamond Dave everyday for a month now and I truly enjoy that record.

Nothing beats EAT'EM AND SMILE and in SPANISH it sounds great as well!

Hey Sarge....read the first couple of lines of your Skyscraper review. "It's funny.. This album either has allot of fans, and allot of people that don't like it overproduded sound." What the fuck is "allot" or an "overproduded sound?" Non-spelling sumbitch. :D

I got no problem with DLR Band or EEAS being ranked above some of the CVH albums. Frankly, CVH's last two albums from start to finish weren't quite up to par with the ones that came before(although both did have several tracks just as good as anything else they ever did...talking on the whole here), and Sarge has a point about VH2 that I've often felt: too short and seems like leftovers from VH's first album at times.

Knew her being gone was too good to last, but at least she's as entertaining as ever. You know, in a sort of "off her meds plunging a crucifix into her vag screaming 'Let Jesus fuck you!' " kinda way.

Hey Sarge
Rating the CVH and DLR solo albums together in one heap is not fun at all..We are dealing with 13 records and ranking them from top to bottom always makes ppl think that albums rated way down the order are also way too inferior to the ones at the top and are not liked at all...That's not totally true for me...Sure, the Top 6 is much better than the bottom half, but i love them all in different ways...Anyway, here goes my rating list>>

1. Fair Warning
2. WACF
3. VHI
4. VHII
5. DLR Band
6. EEAS
7. ALAE
8. 1984
9. Diver Down
10.SS
11.YFLM
12.Diamond Dave
13.CFTH

I am baffled by people that say VHII felt like a sampler of 'leftovers' and that it's "too short"...first, most guys seem to be influenced by reading stuff written about how the album was supposedly recorded in a mad hurry after the year-long touring, performing for the debut release; and unsubstantiated rumours(never confirmed by VH members themselves) that a lot of VHII material were outtakes and rejects from the debut...If guys wanna believe all that and listen to VHII with preconceived notions then it's no wonder they gonna say it's 'leftovers'...Even if it's true, i reckon CVH at the time were so outrageously gifted that even a second release of supposed leftover material could still be so stunningly powerful and a superb record overall...And "too short"??...All six DLR-era records ranged from 30-35 minutes...VHII was 31 mins, i guess...So what's the drama about album running time here??....The main thing is we all wish they carried on making more albums, 30-35 minutes of pure heavy hitting rock by CVH or Dave alone is fine with me...infinitely better than 60 minutes of trashy art/pop/ballad wanna-be rock by the rest this world has to offer....

Far as Van Halen 2, I always felt it was too much like the first album and felt like it could have used a few more tunes on it even before being aware of the circumstances surrounding its recording.

None of that means I think it's a bad album. Even CVH at their weakest wipes the floor with most other groups.

In fact, to be upfront and honest, VH2 is in some ways and on some days my fave CVH album...For all its supposed minor faults, its overall raucous unvarnished vibe makes me love it to fixation...Apart from all the great songs on it, Somebody Get Me A Doctor always makes my heart zip like a runaway racecar on collision course...Did u see my ranking list??..Lemme go back to see how u rated the 13..
