Hi Guys,

Thought you would like to know that John Howard
(The Australian Prime Minister) was returned
to office for a historic fourth term.

Our big election was yesterday. John Howard is
very Pro-American and Pro-Bush, comitting Australian
troops to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

This election victory was after media coverage
about Australia going to Iraq on false information on WMD.
Even to the extent where our own Intel agency (ASIO)
had advised the PM that the US intel was questionable.

Dont know if it means anything, but the people of Australie
went with the government that was strongly comitted
to the War on Terrorism. (Despite the crappy US intelligence)

If the US population are in a similar mood, BUSH is
on his way back..

The Aussies have always been the4 toughest, coolest allies the U.S. has ever had - even more than the Brits at times. Friggin Aussies rule.

i'll proudly state here and now
that i'm a card carrying bush/howard
coalition supporter.
as a self-employed person, my living
conditions have steadily improved
(as has our economy)
over the 8 years of howard government.

i believe the introduction of the g.s.t in 2000
was a long overdue economic masterstroke,
even though mr. howard
had expressed ambivalence earlier.

he has had more than a couple of dramas
during his tenure, and imo, handled them
admirably. it's worth remembering that no one
man (or woman) runs a country,
they must rely on excellent staff.

mr. howard was in washington on
sept 11 2001, and i remember that
horrific day, and also the innocents
who died in bali oct 12 2002.
terrorists suck. go bush!!!

Media Downplays Iraq War Ally John Howard's Re-election

Australian Prime Minister John Howard, one of the staunchest U.S. allies in the war in Iraq, won re-election by a convincing margin on Saturday, despite what the Associated Press called "widespread public disagreement" with Howard's position on the war.

Still, while it was a significant triumph for a politician who stood by the U.S. when the going got tough, Sunday's Washington Post buried news of Howard's victory on page A34, where only the most tireless reader was likely to find it.

The New York Times didn't do much better, tucking news of Howard's re-election at the end of Sunday's International section on page A16, right after a report on the locust infestation in Senegal.
Contrast the light coverage that Prime Minister Howard's win got with the splash reporters gave to news of an Iraq war ally who was voted out of office.

Last March, when Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero defeated Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar on the promise to withdraw troops from Iraq in the wake of the Madrid train bombings, the New York Times churned out no fewer than four front page stories.

The Washington Post followed suit.

Downplaying Howard's win on Sunday did give the Post a little extra room to cover bad news from Iraq. Somehow reporter Steve Fainaru managed to dig up four Marines who complained that the war wasn't going well.

The Post put that story on Sunday's front page.

i'm old enough to remember all the
labor shit of the 80's.
(bet you are too, mark)
we have an ex- prime minister,
bob hawke, who is famous for 3 things.

1) he's in the guiness book of records
for being able to down a schooner of beer
in record time.

2) he was p.m. when we won the america's cup
in 1983, and famously declared: "any boss who
sacks a worker for not showing up today is a bum".

3) said in '86, "by 1990, no australian child shall
be living in poverty".

his labor government left us with record
high interest rates, and all time high
unemployment.

it has taken 8 years of shrewd financial
management to BEGIN to fix this mess.

no wonder the liberal government
was returned in a record landslide.

the leader of the opposition, mark latham,
is a kerry-like flip flopper with no idea
of policy, or how to act in the best interests
of his constituents.

good luck american friends!
