The latest update installs a firewall that basically fucks everything up.

You can disable it or change the settings.

Yep, it's the firewall that comes with service pack 2, you have to disable it.

Should one just reinstall XP without SERVICE PACK 2? It's driving me nuts. I think it may even be slowing down the computer.

All right, here's what I do when I install a fresh OS (every 60 - 90 days is my rule of thumb).

1. Turn OFF all NON-ESSENTIAL services. There are websites out there that will help you with this. This can speed up your computer a lot.

2. Download and install all relevant patches and updates.

3. Install software.

Now, if you guys visit any sort of pornographic websites in your leisure time, be warned that they (as well as many other sites) will attempt to place dataminers and other things on your computer. You can stop this (or at least make it more difficult) by disabling certain material from being executed by Internet Explorer.

Good luck.

Yep, people should re-install any Windows OS after 90 days unless it is Windows 2000.

Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME and XP Home and Pro are all garbage IMO.

Those dirty fucking Operating Systems have a Nasty 16 bit Kernel which should be made a crime against humanity.

I know there are a bunch of people who still like using DOS etc.
but this is 2004 not 1984.....

As for 133 SDRAM...........HAHHAHHAA!!!!!

i don't think the firewall was keeping my machine from booting up. :D it said something about not liking my ATI video card...and as long as it took me to get that fucking card working the way i wanted it to, i'm not going to change anything.

Strange...I have XP Home Edition, have used XP Office and I've never had any problem with Microsoft (well, other than my XBOX, anyway).

In all the time I've been online, I've never really had any of these issues...at all...

Maybe I'm just lucky...or maybe the force is with me...

Microsoft would never fuck DARTH VADER over. He'd send Bill Gates to Alderaan and blow it up, just to prove a point.;)

You "twitch" your eyes at me for my 98SE comment, then go onto
explain how you have to reinstall your OS every 60 - 90 days ??

LMMMFAO !!

Gime linux anyday for our servers, but 98SE is far more stable
(or far less painful) than XP.....

I wont be going to XP just yet... Let you suckers experience all
the bugs first.. 60 -90 days ?? You gotta be kidding me ?

Yeah, XP is great.
