LedZep changed the whole world with their music!! Huge influence, without compromising their sound for big commercial dollars, it was just true, and they were not only HUGE because of it, they were RESPECTED... TRUE ROCK GODS!!

The DVD set from last year was one of the greatest things I've ever seen (and heard). I also downloaded the whole EARL'S COURT and SEATTLE DVDs, and they were incredible.

LED ZEPPELIN were untouchable. And, unlike Van Halen, they were truly a united band. One band member goes, they break up.

Alright Scotty, here's some of my personal collection. First up, a collection of Jimmy posters from various guitar mags.

Matt White
11-16-2004, 01:32 AM
#2, a Bonzo poster, which hangs behind my Bro's drum kit. Inspiration at its best!

Matt White
11-16-2004, 01:34 AM
#3, a poster from a gig Zep were SUPPOSED to play in Cali in 1975. Plant got into a car accident in Greece and had to cancel. Bought this at an ARTROCK store in Ann Arbor in the mid 80's.

HAHA! Look at that. My VAN HALEN WACF poster krept into the pic!:D

Matt White
11-16-2004, 01:37 AM
And finally, #4. A reproduction of a poster for Zep's ELECTRIC MAGIC tour. Had this one close to 20 years.
Got agree, ZEPPELIN rules.

Awe Inspiring !

Zep were the best.

The Aleister Crowley connection has always fascinated me too.
A lot of their songs came from "the" source.

Mr Page found that link, how ?
oooh it makes me wonder..

This is going to make me some enemies here....BUT....

I never cared for Led Zeppelin. I have a homemade best of mix (SANS Stairway to Heaven...if I can die without having to listen to it ever again, I'll die happy) with my personal favorites, but overall...I bought Led Zep I, II, III, IV, and Houses and none of them were much to my liking. The occasional song or two, but overwhelmingly I was always underwhelmed.

My 70's band was Black Sabbath.

Matt White

Songs I'd recommend Bob:
Achilles Last Stand
Trampled Under Foot
Sick Again
Nobody's Fault But Mine
All My Love
In the Evening
Custard Pie
In the Light
Tea for One
Ten Years Gone
Hey Hey What Can I Do?

Also, check out the live DVD. Bonzo live is absolutely incredible!!! Words really don't do him justice.

On my home mix are Trampled Under Foot, In the Evening, All My Love, Black Dog, Houses of the Holy, Rock and Roll, Kashmir, Living Loving Maid, Misty Mountain Hop, When the Levee Breaks, Fool in the Rain, Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love, The Rover, Dazed and Confused, and finally The Ocean.

Zep was a good band, musically, I won't argue that at all! I'll check those others out, Matt, thanks for the advice :)

I'm surprised bueno bob, Zep were musically diverse. Every album was a shade different from the last. Live, they left alot to be desired as they were hit or miss due to drugs I'm sure.

5 Star for you Bob! Led Zep is overrated, but at the same I can admit that they were really talented. I never got into them, mainly because I can't stand Plant's voice.

For me, the 70s is about Deep Purple.

I thought they were overated. I don't care if I never hear Smoke on the Water ever again. Two or three real standouts from them and that was it for me.

Zeppelin was more diverse and venturing into the unknown. Not to mention their mystique. Page was a master in the studio. Live they pulled out all the stops. Some times sloppy as drugs were prevalent back then. Their normal show was at least two hours long if not more. You got your moneys worth.

Here's what sets Zeppelin apart from your Deep Sabbaths and Black Purples....Zep could do ANY fucking style of music and do it well. Blues, folk, hard rock, reggae, rockabilly, eastern, country, funk..all well documented on their albums. The thing about them is they never really duplicated themselves from album to album. There was always something new on each one. Whereas most bands then and now really don't get out of the confines of what they are comfortable doing...i.e. they put out the same album basically every year or so.

Amen brutha! Zep never stayed with one style, they could venture outside the box of what's known. Always liked that about them! So many different styles! You couldn't peg them.

Led Zeppelin were cool on record but live not always there. if we are going to talk about live shows and 1970`s in the same sentence than KISS is what its all about and i would say to a lesser degree Alice Cooper. Kiss gave you your moneys worth each and every night. Even when Ace and Peter were toasted out of their minds they still pulled it off unlike Zeppelin and even Aerosmith for that fact

I think I'm the only person on earth who likes their last albums, Presence and In Through The Outdoor, better than their earlier work.

Presence is pure, electric and in your face. True rock and roll. On Outdoor, Plants voice is amazing. Rougher and lower. The material was a ticket to the '80's.

I feel that Led Zeppelin was a lot bigger in the USA than in Europe. Zep owned rock in the States. Europe was Queen's territory.

probably cos us europeans have a more discerning palate than you yanks

:D

zep had some high points , but by 1975 and physical graffiti - their last masterwork - they'd become a fat over inflated parody

queen owned hard rock from 75 onwards

freddie mercury was a much better frontman and singer than plant who seemed to screech half the fucking time like hagar on acid

brian is a vastly superior guitarist to page , simply no contest , ask jeff beck

bonham was the star of zep , along with keith moon arguably THE gratest rock drummer ever , listen to 'in my time of dying' or 'achilles last stand' for proof of that

as for the bass player - who he ?

listen to the first 2 albums which are incredible then the last 2 which are bloody awful ( ITTOD & CODA )

I don't have an explanation as to why Queen wasn't as big here as they were in Europe...other than once that dreadful Flash Gordon soundtrack came out we didn't want to hear anymore.

Queen's music is just too prissy for the American pallette. Zeppelin on the other hand is like someone taking a 2X4 to your head..."everybody goes YEAHHHH!!!!! BaSh." ;) That's the way we intended for rock to be played. :D

For that matter, take Knebenworth in 1979. The DVD material was excellent and the Knebenworth shows were good. I know that "The Song Remains The Same" was lackluster, but the DVD that was released in 2003 was awesome. "How The West Was Won" was awesome and "BBC Sessions" were good. It seemed like they (including Jimmy Page) held their own quite well live.

Im a wearing and tearing mofo.My first preference is the who or what is left of them.Ive seen Jimmy Page w/the firm a few times(excellent) and ive seen him solo on the outrider tour.Good effort but he was hurtin when i saw him live at the ritz in nyc.As far as Robert Plant his solo stuff is just borderline weak.People dont go to a robert Plant show to hear his solo stuff.I know its not a fair comparison but at least he is trying to put out new stuff.Having said that i saw him at MSG in nyc 2 or 3 years ago open for whats left of the Who.He was fantastic!yopu hear the sos he cant sing the high notes or whatever. All i know is he played going to california, whole lotta love & hey hey what can i do.That was a great show Townshend put on a guitar clinic that night.I have also seen John Paul Jones in small clubs and if you get the chance go he is brilliant. We all know Bonzo was the best,i like Keith and Neil Peart personelly.I wish all classic bands wpould put out a dvd like how the west was won.
