Modern-day metal that doesn't suck!

So I've been trying to find some modern-day metal bands that are any good at all. Most of the genre as it currently exists is pretty bad. I keep going back to the classics like Maiden and Priest. Anyway, I picked this album up and it's actually very good. They do have some of the cookie monster vocals that I don't like, but the music is VERY strong.

Will do. 9 out of 10 of the new metal bands I hear are either fucking indistinguishable or they just plain suck. There's just no excuse for shitty songwriting, no matter how pretty the production is.

I'll look into these guys.

It's not that new anymore but OPETH from Sweden are probably the best active metal band at the moment.

In Flames is pretty good, too. Damn, what's with all the Swedish metal breaking out now?

On this side of the pond, Killswitch Engage is fairly decent. They've been playing with Slayer and Mastodon, too.
