View Full Version : Best VH "Ballad"

I put ballad in quotations because none of the VH tunes are really what I'd call a ballad. But, what slow VH song is your fave?

I have to go with "Secrets". Great guitar, great vocals, and some of Dave's best lyrics.

Of course this poll is open only to the first six albums....I'd say anyone nominating a fucking Sammy tune should be kicked in the nuts, but a Sammy fan wouldn't have any.

Little Dreamer? Would that count as a ballad?? I don't see any "ballads". Jamie's Cryin'??

Who the hell knows?

Yep, I agree. Live it was fantastic. Alot of the songs off Diver Down really came alive when played live.

Women in Love... Never saw it as a ballad... One of the top 3 songs from Van Halen if you ask me!!

rape? Isn't it random sex -- ya know, one night stands?

Van Halen never did ballads. Only those cunts from Van Hagar.

I don't think there are any ballads in the Roth era. I think even Secrets is too cool of a tune to be labelled as a ballad. Ballads are highly emotional gush.

\Bal"lad\
To make or sing ballads. a sentimental
or romantic poem in short stanzas.

in his best Tom Hanks voice from League of Their Own
There's no romance in Classic Van Halen!!!!

anyone who says any different is a Hagar fan...a fag...or thinks they are surfing through an Air Supply site...

Nonsense. Sure there is: 'Little guitars', 'Secrets' and 'I'll Wait' hey even 'Jump'. those aren't exactly ballads but they are not out and out rockers either.

You obviously missed this:

Although not a slow song, In a Simple Rhyme would be my vote. Great song, too...

Well I would have to say I'll Wait. Even the lighter edged material they did with Roth kicks the shit out of VanHagar tunes that tried to rock.

Women In Love is also a great tune.

Women in Love rocks too, but personally i don't think it's a ballad...

"Everybody Wants Some!!!"

It puts the "ball" in "ballad".

Jamie's Cryin' is about a chick whose boyfriend asked her to put out. She didn't, he went out without her now she's sitting home all alone miserable cos he's out with someone else. I think.

And I agree, the demo tune "Angel Eyes" is a beautiful song. Not what you'd normally expect from Dave. May be why they never could fit it on a VH album.
