GOP Senate candidate in Oklahoma speaks of 'rampant' lesbianism in schools

(10-11) 17:23 PDT OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) --

The Republican Senate candidate in Oklahoma warns of "rampant" lesbianism in some schools in the state in a tape released Monday by his Democratic opponent.

The remark by Republican Tom Coburn drew a skeptical response from state educators.

"I don't believe that," said Keith Ballard, executive director of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association. He said the group's attorneys "haven't said anything to me about that."

In the tape released by the campaign of Brad Carson, the Democratic candidate, Coburn says a campaign worker from Coalgate told him that "lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?"

Joe McCulley, school superintendent in Coalgate, chuckled when asked about Coburn's remark.

"He knows something I don't know. We have not identified anything like that. We have not had to deal with any issues on that subject -- ever," McCulley said.

The comment came at a town hall meeting in Hugo on Aug. 31 and was taped by a Democratic campaign worker.

John Hart, spokesman for Coburn, said the remark was made during a broader discussion about the challenges parents face in society "where our kids are getting mixed messages about sexuality."

Hart would not say that Coburn misspoke. "I wasn't there," he said.

Of the educators' skepticism, Hart said: "If that's what they say, I guess we will have to take their word for it."

Coburn and Carson are vying for the post that Republican Don Nickles is leaving after 24 years. The race could be pivotal in the battle for control of the Senate.

Comedian Louis Black on Comedy Central's "The Dailey Show with Jon Stewart" last night:

"Let me see, think about high school lesbians...."

There's a gay guy over at Democratic Underground who claims he can personally verify the rumor. And a few months back, a columnist at an NYC gay newspaper claimed to have spent the evening with a "FAUX News anchor".

No longer a Candidate dude. You can call him "Senator elect" from Oklahoma. Why you digging up ancient articles anyway? You've got a point here somewhere, right?

I can't believe you guys elected that Lunatic.

Carson was more right wing than 90% of the Republicans in the Senate. That wasn't enough for you?

Yes, your Senator Conburn says really moronic things. But I did refer to him as Senator in my title.

Yes, the article is dated mid-October, but I found out about this while watching the Dailey Show in which the comedian Louis Black was commenting on the GOP's control of the house and it's agenda, and then pondered for about a minute and smiled as he took Senator Coburn's suggestion and pondered the teenage lesbians going to town in high school bathrooms!

But I sincerely wish Senator Coburn the best in his battle against rampant high school lesbianism. (Hopefully the ladies will choose to attend college in the blue states, especially New York. ;) )

Hopefully he'll be more effective in that than in helping to pass the Intelligence Reforms recommended in the 9/11 Commission, but his apparent lack of intelligence does not leave me optimistic.

Nope.... They'll be attending The Evergreen State College here in Olympia. If it's not the official Lesbian college, it should be :eatit:

I would just like it if peoples sexuality remained where it belongs...Behind Closed Doors!

Give them spousal rights, but dammit, get this shit out of the public forum and get the government out of it all together.

People's sexual preferences should not be an issue in public schools and it should not be an issue in the work place or other public zones.

It is a matter between the two people involved in the relationship, and should be kept private, and that goes for heterosexuals as well.

It isn't an issue at all if you read the comments of actual educators. Sen. Conburns comments are completely delusional and reflect an interesting subconscious fascination with lesbians coupled with intense paranoia about them.:o

Nick, I see where you are coming from, but I feel his comments are more accurately described as ignorant and bigoted fear mongering tactics than a reflection of his true feelings. I hope to God Oklahomans aren't electing people that stupid to the Senate. They just appear to be that stupid.

Lesbians kick ass man! Oklahoma.

We have students protesting at schools here because they want the right to be gay and have that choice respected in the schools.

This just boggles my mind that the students are even allowed to have such a protest on school grounds.

The problem is that these situations are becoming violent and gays are being assaulted for coming out and putting it in the face of those who don't agree with their lifestyle.

I don't really care what someone's sexual preference is.
I do care that the issue is being thrust upon people who simply don't want to support it, and then being labeled homophobes and being forced to take a side.

This is beginning to look like another sexual revolution, but for the homosexuals. and even they are getting violent trying to defend their sexuality.
But they are the one's making it an issue in the first place.

Just keep your sexuality private regardless of your preferences, that's all i propose.

I think you make some legitimate points, but I also think a lot of this is exaggerated when it comes to "protests" and all that. I really don't think the good Senator from Oklahoma's comments were not based on anything specific aside for some highly questionable hearsay he has heard.

I really don't think you have to be afraid of homosexuals violently defending their lifestyle if you leave them alone.

We have a lot of problems with schools in America, and I can tell you the least of which is homosexual students (who by the way have always existed), especially "lesbian's in the washroom."

I really think this Coburn guy watches too much pornography!

I agree 100% Cat. It seems to me these fuckers take the limp-wristed, well-dressed cliche' and it's like a club for them. They suck ass and annoy everyone and are losers in life, so they form their own clique. Fine. Then go hang out at your clubs and shut the fuck up. No one wants you parading up and down the street in cut off jeans holding hands! And if you fuck around like that in high school, you're gonna get your ass beat!

I really think shit like this is a far bigger problem and a much greater threat:

Police: Student slashes 8 at Indiana school
Wednesday, November 24, 2004 Posted: 11:53 AM EST (1653 GMT)

VALPARAISO, Indiana (AP) -- A student slashed eight schoolmates with a knife Wednesday at Valparaiso High School, inflicting severe cuts, authorities said.

The student who committed the attack before class was in custody and the school, about 20 miles southeast of Gary, had been placed on lockdown, Valparaiso police spokesman Michael Grennes said. He said the attack happened about 8 a.m. in a Spanish classroom.

Jeni Bell, a spokeswoman for Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, said the students suffered severe cuts and one suffered a hip injury. But Grennes said the injuries weren't life-threatening.

"At this time, we've got a number of students who have been injured," Grennes said. "They've all been transported to the hospital and all the parents have been notified."

Grennes declined to release additional details about the attack, including a possible motive, pending a news conference later Wednesday. School employees said no one was immediately available to comment.

2) I'm not gay.

And my name at DU is AntiCoup2K4

Referring to lesbianism with the same vernacular one would use to describe Swine Flu is pretty damned stupid.

Besides, I fail to see a problem with rampant lesbianism. Many worse things can happen than two chicks getting it on . In fact, try as I might, I can't find one single argument against it. :D

I think the point here is that a Senator is completely delusional and obsessed with (mostly fictional) lesbians while Rome burns or rather, we fail to pass Intelligence reform!
