Jan Van Halen was too drunk to care. Eugena Van Halen wanted Ed and Al out of music because she didn't want them to be poor starving drunks like their dad.

Dr. Nathan Roth wasn't really thrilled with Dave's choice but thought a year of trying to make it would descourage the kid. Instead of kicking Dave out of the house or belittling him, Dave's dad helped his kid try and succeed even if he knew it was nearly impossible.
