Ice Cream Man on Diamond Dave is much better than the original version on Van Halen I in my opinion. Dave has truly mastered singing that song after all of these years. The new version sounds really polished. And the big band bass and sax kick major ass. I guess Edgar Winter is a better sax player than EVH is a guitar player!

Anyone else prefer Ice Cream Man on Diamond Dave to the original?

Absolutley not. I think the new version is awful in comparison to the old one.

the diamond dave version is a great song; sung like it
would have been sung "ala vaudeville" days. it shows the
amazing musical creativity of dave. but the original song
is the trademark. and the original vh cut is the one people
will remember when all is said and done. to quote DLR:

"winners, they come and go.
legends, they're forever..."

The VH version is better, but not good enough to be on "Best of Both Worlds"

I prefer the original version over the Diamond Dave version. That being said, the DD version is excellent. At times, I thought the vocals sounded EXACTLY like the 1978 version. FUCK NO his voice ain't shot.

Did you hear the Rama show yet? If anybody needs proof of that FACT, take a listen. Diamond Dave is operating at 110%!

No it isn't.

His voice is neither better nor worse.

The song is sung a completely different way on each album.

I can't believe I had to point that out.......

Thank you!

Ice Cream Man 2 is the absolute most disturbing thing Dave has ever done...

I hope Edward never hears that crap...

Crappy idea, crappy vocals, crappy, cheap recording...

Just awful...
