Before all the neocons start yelling,I am NOT dissing these troops.Just illustrating how badly we need manpower, and wondering where this manpower will come from in the next 4 or 5 years.

This is/was sponsored by Fritz Hollings of SC, now retired. The House version is sponsored by Charles Rangel of NY in a knee-jerk reaction to the Iraq War. We've discussed this here several times. You're a day late and a dollar short...again. :gulp:

Yes, the vote that was nothing but political grandstanding by the Republicans to convince and reassure their little base that NO DRAFT WILL EVER AGAIN be instituted.

Meaningless horseshit either way. The won't even use Rangel's bill when the DO reinstitute the draft in two or three years.

Your assessment is ass-backwards, as usual. The Democrats came up with these bills. Republicans had nothing to do with them. How you figured Republicans used them as political grandstanding is beyond me. The Democrats came up with these bills to try to "scare" people into not wanting war.

I don't care who came up with it. Any legistlation that works towards a draft is frightening to me. We are going to be in Iraq for years and they need American bodies over there to protect corporate property.

Are you ready to send your kids to Iraq? Would you prefer they get killed or come home maimed?

Can you provide pointers to the numerous threads? Or are you just going to spew cliches?

Thanks. Interesting stuff.

As usual, BigBlandBrian had nothing of substance to offer. Too bad he thinks that any thread he has added a "smilie" to is somehow off limits for all of eternity.

So long as "they" keep writing laws using the Nazi German term "Homeland" your country is over.

It's not my country.

I am a citizen of the locality I live in.

I am in the process of getting rid of my SS (no pun) number, I've stopped volunteering income taxes for "wages" (i.e., not "profits"), and I'm renouncing my "federal" citizenship of my all CAPITAL LETTERS name.

See ya when the battle starts.

I'll be the guy with the gun without the federal ID (i.e., no driver's license).

You play the game.

I'm through with being a U.C.C. cattel.

You're not free.

They have only let you think you are free.

Rangel's point was that minorities and the poor should not bear the burden of military service.

The Republican's point was too gandstand the reassuring message: "See, we don't need a draft, our all-volunteer force is just fine!" Well we've never fought a protracted conflict with an all-volunteer force. The only ass here is the one of the 'dog wagging in your face.'

How many of those brave, bold and courageus Republican's son's or daughter's are fighting in the War they so enthusiastically forced down the throat of America?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Chuck Rangels point exactly!
