No! The Norton should extract the old file automatically.

I installed 2005 over my 2004 about four months ago. I had some problems with it loading when I started up the computer, so I basically extracted it and reloaded it.

I downloaded it from the web site. I was afraid that since I did not have the CD, that I would have to pay to another download, but it was actually in an unused desktop folder.

Try to avoid calling Norton, if you can, they charge $40 for technical support (cocks, half the time it is their fault.).

I would try to shut everything down first, then start up and try to reload. If your CD drive isn't reading, that could be another problem. But don't delete tho old Norton if you haven't already. Maybe the CD could be defective, try taking it back to the store and exchanging also.

Dude, if your CD drive isn't reading it, it has to be bad software (exchange it) or you need to get your CD drive looked at.

Does ANYONE on this site look like they perform Freelance M$ PC Help Desk support?

...Kinda like going to CNET.com forums and posting a 'Vote for your favorite album from the six-pack poll'...

But hey, You Never Know...

Mate, I dont own Nortons Internet Security System, but look for any files called "Setup" or any obvious looking icons that might do something. Right click/properties see if its an exe file. 99% of
the time it will be an exe file that does the job. You shouldnt
have to uninstall old version. New version will detect and update.

Can you manually access the files on the CD ? Or is it setup to
Autorun ?? Go to my computer and right click on your CD,
then fuck around looking for setup exe files or install, or
some obvious looking icon.....

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps XP (which has
its own firewall) is stopping the installation thinking its an
attempt to violate your internet connection.... That might be
worth checking out too..

Shut down thw XP firewall before you put the install disk in. If it doesn't autorun you can make it by clicking start, click on run, and run D: (not sure on the prompt for that)

Why is this in the locker room? Who is actually modding these days?

I had a fuck of a time installing software for my son's iPod... It sounds similar to the problems you may be having with this Norton software.

Apple support told me to it might be an issue with my firewall... it might be a conflict with my 'installshiled' program... blah, blah, blah...

It wasn't untill I uninstalled XP SP2... then I was able to install all the iPod software and when it was working properly I re-intalled XP SP2 and it all seemed to work fine.

It's a little time consuming, but might be something to consider... especially if you're like me and you'll drive yourself (and everyone around you) fucking crazy until you get it to work!

Good Luck!!!

There's are known problems with Norton (Symantec) and XP SP2....

I have Symantec A/V installed on my PC at home here and the Virus Protection in the "Security Center" that loads with SP2 does not interact with SAV, so you have to change it not to monitor, and Norton knows all about it....

Just asking a question. No need to get all personal with your knotted panties and stuff. This thread was in another forum, maybe he's not the only one with this problem. And I'm only on 15 hours a day. Some of use are a little quicker than others I suppose.;)

I think that was the problem I had regarding the failure of my Norton to load correctly. I the Norton worked okay, for over a month, but I kept getting a message at startup that "Norton does not support repair, uninstall feature: you must reinstall." I thought I had some bullshit spyware or something. I finally did this after finding the Norton download package in an unused desktop folder.

I think that I had my Windows firewall on 'cause I feared intrusions while the Norton firewall was being replaced and updated.

But I reinstalled after turning off SP2, and disconnecting from the internet and everything is fine now.

Try getting new Norton software. If that's not the problem, go on to semantec's helpline. You may or may not have to pay $40.
