U2 has plotted a 13-city North American jaunt as the first leg of a planned world tour behind 2004's "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb."

According to an announcement posted to the band's official website, the much-anticipated tour will launch March 28th on the West Coast, taking in Phoenix and Denver as it winds from San Diego to Vancouver, British Columbia.

From there, a single midwest stop in Chicago bounces the band to the East Coast, where the band will play Philadelphia, East Rutherford, NJ, and New York before concluding May 26 in Boston. Kings of Leon is slated to open all North American dates.

Ticket sales for the run will be staggered, with Boston, Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia and San Diego going on sale Saturday (1/29). Tickets for Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Jose, CA, will be released Sunday (1/30). Tickets for New York and East Rutherford will go on sale Jan. 31.

Ticket on-sale dates for Phoenix, Seattle and Vancouver will be announced in the coming weeks, according to the announcement.

As previously reported, the tour will feature a general admission floor, as was implemented on 2001's "Elevation Tour." General admission tickets will be priced at $49.50, with other price points varying by city.

In an interview with Billboard.com, U2 manager Paul McGuinness said a live DVD of the tour was planned for release around the end of the tour, and that the band was exploring the possibility of making recordings of each show available online, possibly through their partnership with Apple Computer's iTunes store.

The entirety of the North American run will take place at indoor arenas, from whence the band will move to a 14-city stadium tour of Europe, kicking that leg off June 10 in Brussels and continuing through August 14 in Lisbon. A second North American leg is expected to follow Europe, though no dates or time window for that leg has been announced.

Members of the official U2 fan club will get access to some seats before the general public sale via a pre-sale system coordinated between the band and Ticketmaster. Fan club presales are set to begin Tuesday (1/25). (Ticketmaster is the parent company of liveDaily).

Avg ticket price is 90 bucks.

I saw them in '97 and paid 65.00.

I'll only pay that amount of money to see CVH...or Led Zep if John Bonham got dug up and played drums.

DLR7884
U2=good, but not 90 bucks good.

Seriously. I'll just re-watch the DVD they put out after the last tour, and spend the $90 on porn instead.

90 bucks would be less than the Elevation tour actually, but still a bit steep.

Fucking Clear Channel

I heard that there would be $50 buck seats when they came through Denver. I really don't know why the fuck they cost so much now for tickets. $50 used to be steep until the fucking big corporations started gouging everyone.

From what I'm reading the upper deck seats are $50 and the lower level seats are 160 clams....

U2 is one of the most overrated rock groups in the history of rock & roll while they only stood out during the 80's because they weren't Motley Crue & Duran Duran which is saying too much & the holier than thou Bono is pathetic but they deserve to be inducted into the RNRHOF.

You think they are over rated, yet you downloaded EVERY song from itunes? LMAO!

There is just no stopping the handicapped is there? Thanks for being you.

I own one U2 cd. Unforgettable Fire. It sucks. All their shit is over played before I get a chance to "buy" anything from them. The radio kills any enjoyment anyone can possibly get from a band nowadays.

Blowing money for the hell of it is stupid but you should have spent on the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Aerosmith or AC/DC instead of U2.

My plan is to see if there are any last minute bargains on eBay, even though I don't think that's too likely (this won't be like the VH tour). I saw them around 1985 or so, great concert.

you know what? That IS BS. Perry is a an ass for saying that. If anything he's got no heart and soul in playing. I know Ed was influenced by Clapton, but I can't hear a lick of Clapton in any of Ed's playing. Ed will always be the most unique guitar player for many years to come. Perry will be forgotten a decade after he's dead.

Bollocks to you then!

You haven't heard him jam live on "Bullet in the Blue Sky" or "The Fly." The Edge is a better guitarist than he often sounds technically speaking, but he came from the guitar school of the punk scene in which it was more about ambience, attitude, and contributing to the song as a whole as opposed to the ego-driven hard rock guitar god mentality.

That being said, I wish he would "turn it up" more often with a fast riff.

Oh I dunno. I think Clapton wrote a song for his dead son, didn't he? ;) Personally, I was NEVER a fan of Clapton or Cream and don't see what Ed found so fucking fascinating?

Don't forget Ed's charming quotes about Page. "Page plays like a drunk 3 yr old" or something to that affect. Of course that could've been the drunk ed and not the sober Ed we all liked. ;)

U2 is a waste of time & highly overrated as a rock group for over 20 years now while Bono is the most holier than thou frontman in rock who should be ignored by the media, the politicians & the fans if they were smart.

the best U2 is the shit the radio wont touch anymore. ;) Sunday Bloody Sunday and In the name of Love (Pride). I like the new Vertigo. but the radio has to stop the overkill.

I thought he said something about page being a 3 yr old or drunk or something too? Maybe not. i remember the "broken hand" statement though. :D

Boring to you maybe. They still fill stadiums all over the world. So your opinion is noted, but obv. not the majority. Like I said, they are VERY talented musicians with a few good to great songs (mostly from the 80's) and politics aside, will be remembered for what they gave to the industry and not what they took out of it.

Elvis you know better than anyone what Elvis "gave" to music and what he "took" out of it. he got rich singing other peoples songs. His hair was slicked, he seldom played anything other than a few chords and wiggled his hips for the girls to scream. U2, I think do what they do because of the "love of the sport" not JUST the paycheck. Just my opinion.
