View Full Version : What good British Comedies are on DVD?

Vivian Campbell

American TV, for the most part, sucks. Because of this, I have been seeking out British comedies. I happened upon “Coupling” and loved it. I also bought “The Office” season 1 and love that show as well. Can anyone suggest any other good Brit-Coms available on DVD that I can buy?

I hate British Comedy, but everybody seems to love that show called "Absoutely Fabulous" from the late 80's/early 90's.

Little Britain is a laugh, as well as Bo Selecta.

The Office is fantastic, search out Ricky Gervais' standup DVDs, firstly Animals, then Politics. Both are a great laugh.

Faulty Towers is good too, and I hear good things about Monty Python.

"Free Love" by David Brent

Pretty girl on the hood of a Cadilac, yeah....
She’s broken down on freeway nine.
I take a look and her engine’s started,
I leave her purring and I roll on by....bye bye

Chorus:
Free love on the free love freeway,
The love is free and the freeway’s long...
I got some hot love on the hot-love freeway
I ain’t going home cos’ my baby’s gone

A little while later, see a senorita,
She’s caught a flat trying to make it home,
She says “Por favor, can you pump me up?”
I say “Muchos gracias, adios. Bye Bye.”
Free love on the freelove freeway,
The love is free and the freeway’s long
I got some hot love on the hotlove highway,
Ain't going home ‘cause my baby's gone.

Little while later I see a cowboy crying,
“Hey buddy, what can I do?”
He says “I lived a good life, had about a thousand women.”
I said “Why the tears?”, he says “‘cause none of them was you.”

Free love on the free love freeway,
where the love is free and the freeway is long...
I got some hot love on the hot-love freeway
I ain’t going home cos’ my baby’s gone

Go for Animals, his first one. It's much better than politics.

Most digital cable companies now carry BBC America also. I have noticed PBS doesn't carry the Brit stuff like they used too.

Most of the great ones have already been mentioned above, with Fawlty Towers, AYBS and Only Fools And Horses being personal faves of mine.... I think the more recent Chef! is very good also, as was "As Time Goes By"... Back in the day, ones such as "Butterflies" and "Steptoe and Son" (yes, the basis of Sanford & Son) were just smashing in my book!

Did you see the re-union show they did? The one where they traveled with a time machine? It was a grate one...especially the part where they met Robin Hood and his troops...Black Adder spoke to them, and Robin's troops ended up killing robin and black adder stole Marion...(Kate Moss)

People have already mentioned a lot of amazing shows but I must add a more recent show to the list..."The Fast Show". I enjoyed most of it very...very much.

Fawlty Towers is priceless get a laugh out of it every time.

The Office is also very funny.

Fast Show was also really good.

The Young Ones I haven't seen in ages.

Ben Elton who wrote it used to be very good at stand up comedy.

Harry Enfield was brilliant originally with Stavros and Loads a Money. Then he got boring.

I just bought the Office Season 2 and Special. The comedy is amazing. Also bought Coupling Season 4 a few weeks ago. That was outstandingly average. It ain't Coupling without Richard Coyle.

Shit, this quite a list of stuff to get. I'll be buying stuff for a year just based on the suggestions from this thread. Thanks!
