Who remembers this Japanese Metal band from the 80's ? I think they had an album called "Thunder in the East"
I remember thinking they had some cool little riffs in places,
they also had very obvious Japanese accents...
Were they well known in the US and UK?

Supposedly they had an import only album released Feb 3rd called "Original". I hadn't heard of them until I went overseas in the late 80's.

They opened for Ac/Dc here in Cleveland in 81 for the back in Black tour. They were pretty good.

Fuckin' A boys, Takasaki is one bad motherfucker on that geetar....

Saw them two nights in a row at Budokan...

Yeah sure, I tended to overlook the "wok and woll" aspect of their songs....

If you get a chance to watch a VCR or DVD of them, you'll be pleasantly surprised, especially the guitar solo....

Holy shit, a VH reference on that website....

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the band Loudness, they are one of the leaders in Japanese hard rock/heavy metal. Loudness was formed by Akira Takasaki in about 1981, after Akira and Munetaka decided to move from the pop sound of Lazy into heavy metal in the same genre as Van Halen. These guys have been pumping out beautiful, heart pounding musical pieces since 1981, and are still rocking on today. Incidentally, Loudness has had a reunion, and are back to the original line-up, though I'll surely miss Masaki's acid vocals.

Someone beat me to Crazy Nights!!! The video for that tune was absolutely hilarious! Musically they were good, but those accents...and the dreadful, yet side splitting lyrics-

"da soun' kicks you in da head, all night!!!!!!!!
Lock n' Loll Clazy Nights!!!!!"

Ahh, Stryper. When I saw them they chucked mini bibles into the crowd. Loved the beginning to Soldiers Under Command. Hated the yellow & black.

Anyone ever check out EZO, another killer band from the East. Their singer replaced the singer from Loudness for a few years before the reunion. Gene $immon$ produced their first album, hence the makeup (and it still sounded good.)

Yeah, I watched a bunch of Loudness videos when they got the singer from there, seemed that their music got a whole lot heavier, which wasn't a bad thing....

VH1 put them on the worst metal list, mainly because of the accents .

Ironically it had the opposite effect on me, and I downloaded "Rock And Roll Crazy Nights" right after that. :D

Takasaki is the best guitarist in all of asia apparently, Very talented.

Here's one from that era with EZO's singer, I like the groove on this one...

And, as always, a SMOKIN' solo...

That's pretty good-almost has a CFH-era Pantera sound. Definitely heavier. I don't know why I never checked them out with this singer since I was a fan of both bands. I'll be checking out more from this line-up.

I was totally blown away by Loudness when Thunder in the East came out in 84. Loudness' guitar player Akira Takasaki had it all; good tone, ridiculous speed, artistry, flash, plus his riffs were melodic and interesting.

They thundered onto the mainstream rock scene with a killer video on MTV and a gutiar player giving EVH a bigtime run for his money.... the novelty wore thin though, and they kind of fizzled out after Thunder in the East.

it's unfortunate that the singer has to try and look like Axl Rose...

anyway, this is Taiji, a mental bass player from X Japan....he was once in Loudness as well....
