View Full Version : Watta hell was up with Dave in DLR Band?

Just bought the album, it's a bit hard to get in Portugal. The album rocks, but Dave's singing is shit... What the hell was he trying to do? Sing Heavy Metal? He's not THAT good... I think Dave turned a potentially masterpiece into a piece of crap.

Then again, I only listened to the album twice... Might grow on me. :D

Of course, the first time I listened to ALAE, I immediately loved the thing... Best buy I ever made!

Cheers! :bottle:

Well I AM drunk, but I think it only affects your vision... not your hearing. On the other hand, one time I haerd someone calling me "Get out of my lawn" one sunday morning, so it might affect the hearing too...

Waaaahwahaaaaaawww!

He is my provider, as I walk into the void
For eternity I give him my soul
I shall do his bidding obey him without question
Even walk among the living if I'm told

Satan don’t forsake me I wait for
You to take me grant me wings and as
Your messenger I'll fly

I wonder if ELVIS or Katydid like Manowar...

Cheers! :bottle:

Yeah, that's it! His voice in DLR Band is just not his voice anymore... In YFLM you CAN notice a bit of change, but it's not as bad... I know many people hate 'Diamond Dave', but at least there he's got his voice back. AND he's better than ever. I just LOVE Soul Kitchen. Maybe because I have always been a Doors' fan. :D

Cheers! :bottle:

I'd have to say you're in the minority regarding DLR Band's grateness. I think it's a raw, hard-rockin' piece of plastic.

To each his own as they say.

I'm right there with ya on ALAE.

Moving to the albums forum.

David Lee Roth's voice diminished after Skyscraper.

Relentless is pretty painful to be honest...

Just listen to LITTLE TEXAS. That is his best solo moment IMHO. And KING OF THE HILL is awesome too.

the tunes in dlr rock. the only thing is that on a few songs it seems like he is forcing his voice to hit ranges that he can not really hit any more and its sounds strained and it sounds weak.

on diamond dave he is singing in tones and ranges that he could and his voice sounds stronger.

compare lets say counter blast vs made up my mind. you see what i mean.

i like the doors to a certain degree but their version of soul kitchen was not one of my faves but i like daves version.

in keeping with the vch and early dave solo tradition he takes someone elses songs and makes it a whole lot better.

I'm actually more into 'Black Sand'. DLR Band IS a great album, I just don't like Dave's voice in it. But 'Black Sand' has Dave's normal voice, and it rules. Cheers! :bottle:

I love Dave's vocal work on Relentless. A raw song about not taking shit and getting your feet back on the ground. It needs some angry screaming.

The riffs and solo in that song - WOW! Amazing.
