Greetings to both brother Jesterstar and the community as a whole.

Well Jesterstar, in reference to your introductory posting (http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18039) of Saturday - March 05, 2005 - at 12:53 PM,
I must confess that you have raised a legitimate question: is Finland CrapLand? I've noticed that Golden AWe and other fellows are giving mainly negative and wrong impression of Finland, so I thought that I should show our actual positive contribution to the world.

Please enjoy!

TOM OF FINLAND was born Touko Laaksonen in 1920 in the village of
Kaarina, Finland. At the age of nineteen, he moved to Helsinki to attend art
college and, for his own personal enjoyment, created his first homoerotic
drawings.

Following his release from the army after World War II, Touko began to work
in advertising. He continued to draw his fantasies and, urged by close
friends, submitted them to the American bodybuilding magazine Physique
Pictorial. Because of the conservative social climate in 1957, he chose to be
published under the pseudonym "Tom of Finland."

In 1991, he was featured in the film documentary Daddy and the Muscle
Academy - The Art, Life, and Times of Tom of Finland. Later that year, he
died of complications from emphysema.

Many Finnish lumberjacks emigrated to the U.S. (especially Minnesota) and to Canada in the early 1900's and of course brought their manly culture with them to stay.

This one surely reminds all present and former military members of their conscript days. In Finland, all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 60 are under obligation to carry out military service. The conscripts serve either a period of twelve (12), nine (9) or six (6) months. Each year more than 80% of those called up complete their national service. An essential part of national service is military training of reservists. In accordance with a law passed in 1995, it is possible for women to volunteer for military service, and 400-500 women do so annually. The reductions in the Defence Forces wartime strength will be continued, bringing the maximum strength down to 350,000 men by the end of 2008.

Finns are known to drink heavily and behave violently. The alcohol consumption per capita is in Finland one of the lowest in Europe. However, even that is 9 litres of pure alcohol per every living person (from infants to elderly) a year... By the way, Elvis never visited Finland.

The Finnish bar culture is rather practical: “The interior decoration is probably anything but ambitious: in fact, a beer tap, counter, some posters, and a couple of old chairs - and, of course, the more or less drunk bar flies - are the most important characteristics of a Finnish bar. In the last few years, however, international trends have made their way to the bar culture in Helsinki. New bar owners seem to be more ambitious than their older colleagues.”

In the 1990s, there were perhaps up to 2,000 construction workers posted from Finland to Germany, but as Finnish construction workers have become more expensive, only a few individuals with high expertise, assigned to special tasks, have been posted in recent years.

“When reflectors were installed along certain curves of Finnish highways, it will no longer be surprising to learn that the marked curves resulted in higher night time driving speeds. However, accidents along the curved stretches of highway not only did not go down, they may have gone up slightly.”

One of the best ways to travel to and from Finland is by sea. The boats to Sweden, in particular, are giant, multi-story floating palaces and department stores, with cheap prices subsidized by sales of tax-free booze: a return trip to Stockholm including a cabin for up to four people can go as low as 50€. If travelling by Interrail, you can get 50% off deck fares. - http://wikitravel.org/en/Finland

NO!

I could never insult Matti!

haahhaha

Btw, I used to have a 7-minute videoclip from the norwegian TV, recorded in the beginning of 2004...his first interview there in 10 years or so, and the drunken ski jump-hero is making no sense whatsoever, singing karaoke at home while Mervi passes out...priceless.

Those military-pics are quite amazing...it seems I got to do nothing exciting during my service!

Heh, I sure hope they are out of the army already. They should have known internet is such a risky place to post material of this kind, as you can see here. Of course the joke is funnier the more people see it... as long your commander, relatives and real-life friends are not among them!
