I just got back home from a few hours of inline skating. For some reason I was reminded of how rekless I used to be as a kid. Like skateboarding in traffic, biking downhill with lame excuses for brakes, jumping off ridiculously high cliffs into dubious lakes, etc. etc. etc.

Had me thinking how and why I survived all that!

Yeh, when I was a kid back in WV we had 30 feet below was a busy highway, so if you fell not only would you probably break a bone, but you'd also more than likely would be hit by a car.

We swung on that thing for months, until the invevitable happened. Fortunately I didn't get hit by a car - but the fall broke my clavical in 2 places.

The authorites took the flagpole down shortly after.

What can I say. There's not much to do in WV when you're growing up. That's why I got the hell out.

SORRY ABOUT THE ABOVE - I was talking about a flagpole. It's late. I'm tired. And I grew up in WV. Cut a brother some slack.

Not much to do in WV growing up? How about just plain nothing to do at all.

Got a man there and I love him dearly, but I'm city born and raised. I'm not even used to not having streetlights every so many feet.

If you think anything you did was bad/stupid, at least you're not this kid (http://www.uselessjunk.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1220).

Not that I was a "bad kid" per se, but I did get creamed by a drunk driver in a Ford F250 head on...it was going about 65 on a road with a limit of 20...came around the corner and plowed right into my armored Ford Escort.

That doesn't much count, I know, but the cops were amazed to find me alive, let alone COMPLETELY intact... ;)

God saved me so I could bother all of you fuckers!

I was a horror as a kid, always into something unhealthy or unsafe. I had no fear whatsoever of anyone or anything. I put my parents through hell.
Now I realize this.

Yeh, that pretty much sums it up. There's nothing but bars, churches and restaurants. Which explains the high number over over wieght, drunk religious zealots

I was 6 years old when I realized living there wasn't for me. What part of WV is "your man" staying in?

Funny how we don't come to this realization until we hit our 30's or have kids isn't it. I was the same way rogue.

I jumped a tidal canal on an RM 370 one night a long time ago.

The shitty hunch punch @ this party made me do it, although a few friends and I had contemplated it for awhile.

It was absolutely nothing like the freestyle MX showboating you see nowadays.

The ramp consisted of a 3/4 sheet of marine plywood and the bed of a piece of shit chevy luv truck.

I fully endo'd the thing, but made it with room to spare and crashed in a huge bed of palmettos.

That one came to mind, but there's a few more.

Great thread.

I wasn't too bad as a little kid but once the testosterone kicked in, look out!!! lol.

Skateboarding, BMX bikes, Hardcore Skiing and football. HIKE!!! :D

Honorable mention goes to fireworks, blowing up shit, starting fires and just pyromania in general.

The real test that I somehow passed was highschool with drugs, boozin' and ALL of the stupid and dangerous stunts that I pulled. I still cringe when I think about some of the stuff. When we used to go 4-Wheeling, we'd jump jeeps while wearing no seatbelts, go on trails where we could've easily rolled and all while drinking beer and/or smoking dope.

FUCK.............................

That's the thing about youth...you think that you're indestructible. It only takes the deaths of a few people close to you for a person to realize how fragile & short life really is.
