The Clear Channel-owned station formerly nicknamed "Mix 100" became "My 100" earlier this month as part of an image makeover - a "new coat of paint," as program director Bob Laurence put it.

The difference between the "Mix" and "My" monikers in musical terms boils down to a nuanced reshuffling of songs from the 1980s, even though the playlist at 100.3 still spans the last 30 or so years of pop hits.

"It's a little more female-friendly," Laurence explained. "A little of the edge came off. It's not quite as rock '80s as it was." Visit the station's Web site (www.my100fm.com) to peruse a list of the most recent 40 songs that have been aired.

WHAT'S IN : In addition to Coldplay, country group Lonestar , "American Idol" starlet Kelly Clarkson and plenty of Madonna's 1980s catalog are in rotation. Elton John's 1970s hits are still in favor, but My 100's playlist is so strategic that only one '70s song per hour can be aired, to ensure that the overall tone of the station remains more contemporary.

WHAT'S OUT : In addition to the Clash, Dire Straits , Def Leppard , Van Halen , Billy Idol and the Fixx have been dumped. But some of those artists will continue to crop up on weekends when an '80s theme is in effect. .

WHAT THEY WANT TO IMPROVE : The latest Arbitron ratings had KMXD ranked 13th in the market for listeners age 12 and older.
