So I guess that means they exist.

And believing in a God, there is none of this bullshit about "Oooh he walked here we should lick the ground where he walked" kinda crap.

Yes, and i get into it with people all the time.
Just finished a phone conversation with an old drummer friend a few hours ago who has a pretty nasty attitude about God.

We were discussing putting a Cafe Band together until i got tired of hearing every other word take the Lords name in vein.

It was all pretty much downhill from there and i don't think we'll be working together anytime soon.

I am interested in someday actually putting together a music ministry, but finding people to play with is looking impossible.
The usual suspects i have jammed with just aren't the type to place in front of a youth group.
That and i have some work to do on my own self improvement first.

Anger is still an issue for me, and i'm a pretty angry guy at times.
It's a bit scary too.

I couldn't agree more and to answer the initial question of your thread, my answer is a strong YES!!! :)

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (1:27). " ' I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you' " (12:2, 3).

Not meaning to go Katydid on y'all but I've always liked that bit. To each their own faith and I fully respect that. I just get a lot more out of my own life having a strong faith.

just from a purely scientific pov;

if earth was 10% closer, or farther,
to the sun, life as we know it couldn't exist.

(jester, sorry about all the spelling errors)

sure, there could be microbial organisms,
we'll probably discover that they're abundant
on warm wet planets.

but something as complex as an orchid, or an
earthworm, that is mind boggling.

consider that an oak tree is capable of self-replicating.
now consider the miracle of child birth,
or the myriad of sea creatures ranging from
microscopic plankton, to a 100 ton blue whale.

accident?

logic says no.

I Believe in gods..

Mostly Guitar gods----

But we have the mighty BON SCOTT!

My theory.....

Jérôme Frenchise
03-30-2005, 11:19 AM
I am a pantheist. Was raised after catholic principles, but could bear them less and less as time passed by. To sum it up, too much unlikely stuff , and way too arbitrary foundations made me get out of it.

I didn't find more meaning in the universe in pantheism. I rather found none, together with more despair, as there is no global, universal meaning in the human sense of the word. I was delivered from a faith that didn't suit me, while I found a path that leads to no hypothetical shelter, certainly, but where I can somehow walk freely. I "know" there is no particular meaning as long as there is no individual wondering. My soul is not more in peace, however it's not less.

Yet, it's just my own inner route (and many others's): I will never assume that my conception is right, whatever other theory it is confronted with.
I just think that NOBODY has a definitive parry to the question about the meaning of being, and will ever have.
Thus, I don't consider beliefs as less accurate than atheism, generally speaking. It's just as far as I'm concerned I can no longer be a believer; then, I won't ever try to "convert" anybody to agnosticism. But if some believer following Christianity or any other religion, ever sounds like telling me he/she has the ultimate key and I'm some lost sheep, it makes me feel insulted. Then, using irony or not, I'll stand opposed to him/her.
The only thing that upsets me about religious faith now is proselytizing, and it happens to be just part of most religions.

My "Gospels" are a few books by Plato, Spinoza, Kant, Nietzsche... But I still read the Bible a little now and then. Like an outstanding, marvellous epic. :)

Ah, the lessons we learn. It's far more important to try and understand, and hopefully respect, the reasons why people either do or do not believe and not to go into any conversation thinking you're going to change someone's mind. A person's character is too complex to be judged simply on their belief in the existence of a supreme being. I happen not to believe, I refuse to argue with anyone about it, and I no longer try to change anyone else's mind.

Yeah, that is something i cannot deal with, especially in public with my kids.
When someone does, it gets my attention and my youngest always says immediately "Ignore it, Daddy", lol.

I have thrown people out of my house for that.
I used to do it all the time when i was younger, but one day i told myself i would make an effort to stop and I have been very successful in that.
If i am reading something and it's in there, I skip over it, don't even think it in my mind.

Oh yeah, it can also get nasty like it did today when my buddy called me again to talk me into playing out again.
I told him i won't subject myself to his contempt for God and he uses his name in vein with every other word he says.
then he started accusing me of thinking i was better than him, and like a true wise guy, I agreed that i was, lol.

I have really slipped the last two days though, people have made me angry and i let them do it.

I have a very long way to go to correct lots of things, and it is a battle of enormous proportions.

Zappa:

Whoever we are
Wherever we’re from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It’s gonna take a lot more
Than tryin’ to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it the earth
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
’cause we behave the same...
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near ’n far
Dumb all over,
Black ’n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religous fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin’ the bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
’bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Don’t believe in the book
We got over here

You can’t run a race
Without no feet
’n pretty soon
There won’t be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religous fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it won’t blow up
’n disappear
It’ll just look ugly
For a thousand years...)

You can’t run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

To arms! to arms!
Hooray! that’s great
Two legs ain’t bad
Unless there’s a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (get down!)
Not his, not hers, (but what the hey? )
The good book says:
(it gotta be that way!)
But their book says:
Revenge the crusades...
With whips ’n chains
’n hand grenades...
Two arms? two arms?
Have another and another
Our God says:
There ain’t no other!
Our God says
It’s all okay!
Our God says
This is the way!

It says in the book:
Burn ’n destroy...
’n repent, ’n redeem
’n revenge, ’n deploy
’n rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
’cause they don’t go for what’s in the book
’n that makes ’em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice french bomb
To poof them out of existance
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise our god
(cause he can really take care of business!)

And when his humble tv servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blond wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our God says
It’s okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
’cause if we don’t do it,
We ain’t gwine up to hebbin!
(depending on which book you’re using at the
Time...can’t use theirs... it don’t work
...it’s all lies...gotta use mine...)
Ain’t that right?
That’s what they say
Every night...
Every day...
Hey, we can’t really be dumb
If we’re just following god’s orders
Hey, let’s get serious...
God knows what he’s doin’
He wrote this book here
An’ the book says:
He made us all to be just like him,
So...
If we’re dumb...
Then God is dumb...
(an’ maybe even a little ugly on the side)

The small problem with this old school threatening thing is shit happens to people whether they are good or bad.

This leads us to

a) God doesn't exist or
b) God is a cunt or
c) God is powerless

In either case fuck him...:)

I'm leaning towards no.

No one has ever seen, nor heard this god speak (no matter how many christian nutjobs have claimed that he's spoken to them). There is no physical nor visual evidence of his existence.

The bible is supposedly the divine, infallable word of god, yet the bible is saturated with contradictions, inaccuracies, and complete falsehoods. If it is truly god's word, then why so many errors?

The part that always gets me is this god supposedly is full of love for his creations, yet throughout the bible there are instances where god has killed scores of people because he is angry with them. He also created a place to send his "beloved" creations to to torment them for all eternity if they don't live according to his rules. Yep, sounds like genuine, true love to me.

I'm sorry, but I'm the kind of person that has to have proof that something exists before I'll believe in it. If someone tells you that a flying pink elephant exists because an old ancient book says so, yet it has never been seen and there is no physical evidence of one ever existing, are you going to believe in flying pink elephants?

No one can prove the existence of a god. You can say that stuff didn't just happen by accident and we had to be created by something, but you can't prove that this particular god in the bible is responsible for making it all happen.

Furthermore, how many religions and gods have there been throughout the history of mankind that have come and gone and have since been proven false? Zeus, anyone? The ancient Greeks had a strong belief in their gods, too, much as christians do today in Jesus and god, but did that make their deities any more real? Why, then, are we to believe that the god in the bible is any more real than all the previous deities throughout time?

Also, logic states that in order for god to even exist, that something had to have created god...he didn't happen just by accident. Where did this god come from? The whole chicken and egg thing...

Just my two pennies...

Amen!

You've nicely summed up the main points.

Religion is basically a virus passed on from parent to child.

We've evolved so that as children we are preprogrammed to believe what our parents tell us. This is very important because otherwise offspring would jump off a cliff or eat the poisonous berries or try and pet the sabre tooth tiger. The ones that didn't didn't survive. When a parent passes on the superstitions that they have inherited from their parents this has a strong hold on their children which is hard to shake.

To give an example of the insanity of this my Dad recently said to me 'I insist my grandchildren are brought up as Christians and go to Sunday school.' My Dad only goes to church for weddings and funerals. He doesn't know much about scripture or much about the history of the bible and is a retired scientist. Like so many people I think he see's religion as a comfort blanket and a morality tool. I think he was a little shocked at my 20 minute detailed fuck off rant where I pointed out it does neither.

If you are religious unless you have been indoctrinated by a cult then you have to accept that like 99.99% of religious people your 'beliefs'(where belief is a euphanism for illogical unsubstatiated crazy superstions) are completely based on the accident of your peer group and geography.

Cheers!

Sesh, something tells me that this post will start World War Three around here!

As for my view, I'm agnostic as I really don't think there's really anyway of knowing for sure. But what I will say is that science doesn't deal in certainties either. I find all of the issues very interesting, and I can't be dogmatic (sorry) either way. I try and keep my mind open.

For me, the worst kind of religion is one which doesn't allow questioning.

I believe in 'God' in that i believe the universe to be a living superorganism. I don't subscribe to any dogma. I believe that throughout history there have been people unusually sensitive to the interconnectedness of all that exists. These people have been the ones who've started all the religions, but that does not mean they were right about everything or even anything. They may have had visions but their interpretations of those visions were tainted by their previous prejudices.

If you look at the teachings of most religions you'll see that most of them have recycled and mixed up from other religions. For instance there have been many stories in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia of a child of high ranking people being hidden by their families in order order to save their lives and discovered and raised by some humble shepherd, only to later rise to an important position. Most of these stories predate Moses.

There have also been countless cults in the Middle East, that have a teacher with 12 disciples etc. One of these teachers, Mithras, is said to have died for others' salvation! In fact, the Catholic Church is almost a carbon copy of Mithraism. Before the spread of Christianity, Mithraism was the most widespread religion in the Roman Empire. It was probably the similarity of Mithraism's and Christianity's teachings that lead to the rapid expansion of Christianity.

The first monotheistic religion is said to have been Zoroastrianism of Iran (along with the short lived cult of Aton in Egypt). Which influenced Judaism and in doing so Christianity indirectly and also directly. In fact the adoption of Zoroastrianism as a state religion by the persian Sassanis dynasty (226-651 AD.) inspired Romans to do the same with Christianity. The enmity between Iran and Rome long predated Christianity, but after the creation of state religions, the conflict began to assume a more religious nature.

The conflict probably in part inspired Muhammad in the creation of the concept of a Jihad. After the Muslim Arabs had conquered the southern parts of the Roman empire and all of Iran the religious conflict began again this time between Christianity and Islam.

This is strange when you think about. Christianity and Zoroastrianism had a lot in common. But a Muslim and a Christian could easily agree with most of each others teaching. Yet they fought furiously. It seems that religious experiences are so intensely visceral and personal, that when you combine them with earthly power all you get is fanaticism and blood. Even when your neighbour shares 90 % of your beliefs the remaining 10 % can make you bitterly hate eachother.

sorry, i'm rambling. :)

The Hopi Nation (Arizona) have a teaching about this. They believe that in the beginning, God created the 4 colors of human beings, Red, yellow, black, and white, and gave each of them a piece of the truth.

It was then man's responsibility to find each other and piece together the whole Truth.

I was raised in the Baptist church, and I still believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, but I believe the Hopis called this one right.

It makes absolutely no sense to me that the Creator of all mankind would only give ONE group of people the "right" religion and damn everyone else to Hell, and even my uber-religious sister knows better than to argue that one with me, because I can quote Scripture better than anyone including her, the Pope, or John Hagee the fat dominionist bastard.

I agree, though i'm not sure any white folk writing about the Hopi have a very good way of understanding their way of life. That said i believe their way of life is right - for the Hopi. I don't, as i believe the Hopi don't, believe in other people performing Hopi rituals. I also believe Jesus was a very special person, but there's a billion tons of bullshit to get through to get to his real message.

There's a whole range of opinion among the Native Americans when it comes to any non-Indians taking part in their ceremonies.

I've been involved in many ceremonies in the Lakota tradition. Sweat lodge, vision quest, several weddings, etc. Some of the people involved were Indians, some were other ethnicities.

There was this group of Lakota elders whom we referred to as the "Lakota Coalition" because they kinda resembled the Dobson-Robertson-Falwell mentality in their fundamentalism and their self appointed right to decide who does or does not practice the traditions.

Yes, it's their tradition, and I can understand their objections to anyone who exploits them, especially for money (big no-no in Indian country - you don't charge for ceremony. Something that other religions could learn from) But I don't understand objection to anyone who takes the traditions seriously and sacred and practices them as such.

I'm not as familiar with the Hopi traditions, apart from a few of their prophecies, but I'd guess if they object to any outsiders, it's probably for the same reasons.

Could you imagine what would happen if a group of Messianic Jews went around saying that nobody but them had the right to practice Christianity??

I believe in God. I catch a lot of flack for it from other musicians too. I do not preach my beliefs but if people ask I will tell them. I think a lot of the bible is just stories to give us an idea of the right way to live. I also agree with Rushdie that we probably lost a lot of the real bible in the original translation. Not to mention a lot of it was lost by passing the stories by word of mouth. (Ever play the game telephone in grade school?)

The religious zealots and the anti-God zealots are the same to me. Only one wants to shove their God shit down your throat and the other wants to shove their there-is-no-God shit down your throat. To each their own. Neither changes my mind.

jesus remains along with the remains of his family, wife and child were located in a cave in jeruselem in 1980. the ossuaries are in the israel museam on public display.
the bones were re-buried outside the city of jeruselem unceremoniously in unmarked graves.

Of course that could just mean that the date we use for Christs birth is wrong.

Unfortunately the Gospel of Luke (1:5) states that John the Baptist was at least conceived, if not born, under Herod, and that Christ was conceived while John's mother was in the sixth month of her pregnancy (1:26). Luke's Gospel also states that Christ was born during the reign of Augustus and while Quirinius was the governor of Syria (2:1-2), which started in 6AD.

The 'word of god' seems to be a bit confused as usual...

It's also more comforting for people to feel that there is a possibility that they will actually go on to an afterlife after they die than to just end up in the cold, hard ground as worm food.

I was brought up in a Christian household, and was forced to go to church as a kid against my will, being told the 'ol "as long as you're living under my roof, you're going to church" bit, which I resent, even to this day. I'm a firm believer that everyone is free to make their own choices in life, and are free to live life however they choose to live it, such as being free from the bonds of organised religion and church. I haven't set foot inside a church for Sunday services in over 12 years, and I haven't missed it one bit to be honest with you. I told my mom last week, who is about as devout a Christian as there ever was, that I don't go to church because I don't want to go, I don't like church, and I never have, and I didn't appreciate being forced to go when I was a kid. You can probably guess how that went over! Then she asked me if I believed in god, in which I gave her my opinion on the subject, and that one really didn't go over well. She was so upset by what I said that she was crying her eyes out when I left, and the night ended with me getting the door shut in my face! I felt really awful about upsetting her like that, and apologized for it, but I don't, and won't apologize for stating my viewpoint and opinion on religious matters. My mom is one of these Christians that is such a crazed believer that she has a closed mind to all differing viewpoints to her own, she won't even listen to the possibility that there isn't a god. I'm not really passionate about the topic either way, and I really don't give a shit about it. I've just done a lot of thinking on the subject over the years and come to the conclusion that Christianity is a fraud, the bible is full of shit, and going to church on Sunday is a monumental waste of time. I have no problem with Christian folks and people that believe in god, and I think alot of them are really nice people...they are free to believe however they wish, no matter how wrong they may be, to each their own. The problem I have is when someone starts trying to shove the shit down my throat and try to make me believe, and try to make me become a Christian, and try to make me go to church. No one is going to make me do ANYTHING I don't want to do...that's just the way I am. They can try all they want, but they'll just be wasting their time. I have much better things to do on Sunday than to waste my time at the sheep pen, er, I mean church, and sing a bunch of stupid hymns and sit through a long, boring church service listening to some blowhard preacher talk about a bunch of bullshit in an old fictional book, you know, better stuff to do like watching a good football game on tv, or doing something outdoors like going hunting, or getting something done that I haven't been able to do during the week, in other words, WHATEVER I DAMN PLEASE! There are of course a huge amount of lovely great people we all love who are Christians.

The thing that I was alluding to earlier in this thread and similar to your story with your mum and I've had with my folks is that churchgoing seems to be habitual more than anything else. Put the 'life the universe and everything' thing in a little box and forget about it otherwise it's too troubling.

I wasn't from a particularly religious family by US standards, I had to go to sunday school/church until I was old enough to say no, my Dad didn't go my mum did go most weeks.

It was never really on my radar at all for about 15 years but as I got older over the last few years I went back and had a really good look at it with an initially open mind resulting in a lot of threads and posts here.:)

The thing that I'm struck by most is that there are all these millions of people that never take a step back and look at it.

Christianity is the bible. There isn't really anything else.

You have a book which is 'the word of god' or whatever and people go to church and passages are read from it and the preacher guy does a talk where he talks about some issue and then tries to tie it into stuff written in this book and people sing some songs based on selected bits of the book. Then you have bible study groups through the week where people read in more detail about stuff in this book.

People do this for for an hour or 2 or more per week depending on their dedication for year after year. Someone like your mum or mine may now have spent as a minimum 2 hours X 50 Weeks X 50 years or 3000 hours doing this and at no point thought 'Where the fuck did this book come from? Who wrote it? When was it written? Who chose what was in the book? What proof is there of the stuff in this book? Does it tie up with the extensive historical documents the Romans have left us? Why doesn't it fit with our scientific knowledge?'

And so on.

I had a 10 minute chat with my mum similar to the one you describe and to be honest I think I really shook her faith a lot. It was odd because I felt bad about it afterwards for some reason. I think it was because it was like kicking a crutch away from her. It was a pointless crutch in a way but who wants to kick a crutch away from your mum?

I blame the church leaders. I think they go off to learn to be ministers or priests and are taught implicitly or subconsciously never ever to raise any of that shit because it brings the whole house of cards down.

Cheers!

sesh, i went through the whole thing of being forced to go too.except i was in a group home, and they made me go for 3 fucking years.didn't matter that i had a jewish dad and an apache mom. didn't matter that i was jewish.didn't matter that i did not want to go.i was forced by a state run instituion to attend this crap for 3 years.it was world war 3.
see my choices were simple-go to church or go to jail for being A.W.O.L.

this is back in 88,89,90,and early 91. from the time i was 11 until i was 13 almost 14.

after a while i got so sick of this shit,i no longer gave a fuck. on my 12th b-day, i told them to baptize me. the damn tank was empty so they had me come back during the korean service to do it so the could fill the tank up.

we when the time came, i walked into that church and strolled right down the center aisle naked as the day i was born, walked right up to the podium, told the whole church what i had been forced to endure, cussed god and jesus and all christians out real fucking good.....and shout into the microphone-FUCK GOD, FUCK JESUS,FUCK RELIGION,AND MOST OF ALL,FUCK ALL YOU WORTHLESS MOTHERFUCKERS!!!
HAIL SATAN!!!!!

needless to say, they group home had to find another church to go to,and i spent the rest of my sundays in juvenile detention watching the games on tv(baseball, football, basketball, hockey) and watching movies with the gaurds. even the correctional ooficers thought it was really fucked up and wrong what i was being put through.

more reasons for me to hate christians.

my mother is now devoutly catholic. she full well knows where i stand on the subject, and knows full well why.
we have an agreement to just avoid the subject altogether. my father does not bring it up with me either.

my mother's mother onvce swore i was possessed by a horde of demons about 23 or 24 years ago. she beat the everloving shit out of me.....this was her version of an exorcism.
it did not work.

all this added to the other "good christians" who robbed my home and tried to have me killed back in december 1998.

and poeple wonder why i fucking hate church, religion, the bible, and the mindless sheep followers that buy into that crap.

news flash people, there is no god,no devil. religion is a lie.
you want salvation, you gotta save yourself.

there is no spirit in the sky.

like i said earlier, it's all done with smoke and mirrors.
it's the worst piece of theatre i have ever endured.
there's no business like show business.
churches are a business.they put on a theatre show.
when you go,you are theatre patrons.
when you put money in the donation baskets, you are supporting this charade. that is what keeps thew show going.
churches should not be tax exempt.
they should have to pay their share too.

i forgot to mention i tore a few pages out of the each of the gospels with the red letters where jesus supposedly said stuff, wiped my ass with it, because i had just taken a huge dump and stunk up the bathroom while i was getting undressed, threw it on the floor, pissed on it.

later that day i took every bible the group home had forced on me,grabbed a big metal trash can, places these bibles in it,along with every other bible anyone else had left laying around, drenched them in lighter fluid, lit a piece of news paper with a book of matches i had stolen from the church, threw the matches and news paper in the can.
BURN,BITCH BURN!!!!
i burned those bibles until there was nothing left of them.
i got in deep shit for this, but i did not give a fuck.

To eliminate religion from the face of the earth means killing off all the people of the earth because people are who invents these religions.

The problem is you would have nobody to fuck. Nobody to make the electricity or provide fuel for you home or car. Nobody to grow the food and bring it to you.

It would be a more miserable existance than having all the religions around. Hey, I don't think too highly of the Catholic Church or it's history but I had a good Catholic as a fucking partner. I just loved her pussy too much so I sold out and kept my oppinion on her faith to myself. :D

I sincerely believe that if there wouldn't be ANY religion, we would be Barbarian, and the strongest would have the upper hand.

I also believe in GOD, like I tell to anyone who ask, I was raised a Catholic, But I let no one interfere between me and GOD, we have a direct link!!

I feel sad for people who don't believe in nothing at all, I think it must be hard, (like giving yourself misery) and in general, as an observation over the years, they also seem to be more self centered, or they are not affected by what happens to anyone else...pittyless...

of course this last statement sound harsh but I think it has a little truth in it.

Interesting, good points. But the Bible proves nothing one way or another, since it was written by men with a political agenda.

If they were supposedly "channelling" God, then they fucked up royally...

I'm not saying I'm a believer or no, just that a flawed document claimed by men as "the word of God" is neither proof nor disproof of its existence...

And anyone that takes the bible as the literal word of God is completely self-retarded...

As you've mentioned on here that you believe there is no god, & hence no devil, I take it that you obviously are not a Theistic Satanist, but more of the Philosophical type...and thus merely post this stuff, and the "hail Satan" comments for effect? Not that any of it bothers me, btw....

Ford's (I think..) 'Jesus' alias is great btw, & Satan occasionally adds a humerous comment or two as well...

Sounds like you've had bad experinces Ace. However, there are plenty of moderate Christian groups out there who will engage in reasonalbe and sober conversation if you engage them. I can also saythat I have had long conversations with Buddhits, Hindus and Sikhs on all sorts of issues and that they have been nothing but respectful on my cynicism, and never became preachy or self-rightoeous.

2. legally blind is defined as 50% or more loss of vision. I have lost 67% of my vision. i do have coke bottle glasses.....very thick, very heavy......thus i seldom use them.

in 1980, my father was blasting some chuck berry records, and playing his grand piano along to the records.

i used to lay on my back on the floor underneath my fathers' grand piano while he played along.

to this day, my father refuses to take credit for setting me on the path towards being a musician.

he wanted me to be a professional baseball player, something he failed to become.

I have never wanted to be an athlete. dad and i had many rows over this for many years.

on thanksgiving day 2004, when i showed him my record contract, which expires nov,13,2007, he finally shut the fuck up.

i have made 2 cd's omn my own dime. i wrote the lyrics and music.
i played and sang everything myself.

it is the only way to make sure it turns out the way i hear it in my head.

I believe in God, but I cant seem to align myself to
any one particular organised religion. How any one
religion can hate another, is just bullshit...
How any one religion can try and control us by
scaring the crap out of us, is also total bullshit..

I think if we took all the best bits from each religion
and blended it together, we would probably be a
shitload closer to the reality of God
than we are today..

Part of the Bible is translated from the Hebrew and Greek Bibles, Latin, Aramaic, etc. written before Christ. The New Testament was after Christs birth and death. The disciples gave their eyeviews. Like anything else. Two people can see the same thing and have a different perspective. You have Book 1 and Book 2, etc.

Matthew wrote his gospel in Palestine for Christians converted from Judaism. Written in Hebrew, in Aramaic, then translated into Greek.
John Mark a disciple assisted Paul, and Barnabas his cousin. And Peter whose disciple Luke unlike Matthew and Mark of pagen origin was born in Antioch. They were translaters for Peter. They put Peter's preaching down in writing at Rome. Luke went with Paul on second and third missionary journeys. And with him during 2 captivities. His gospel the third to be written could claim the authority of Paul . As that of Mark could claim the authority of Peter. Luke composed a second work- "Acts of the Apostles." The original language of the 2nd and 3rd. gospels is Greek.

Therefore there is a "Synoptic Problem." As the many solutions offered so far inadequate if taken separately, though each contributes an element of truth to the complete solution. It is highly probable , even certain, that a common oral tradition was committed to writing each of the 3 Synoptics independantly and consequently with
variations.

and before anyone starts calling me an anti-semite,my father is a jew.
i was after the age of about 10 years old when my parents divorced, raised by my father.

That is where Christians will disagree with you. Joseph of Arimathea, secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. And Pilate permitted it. So he came and took his body. Nicodemus, the one who had first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about one hundred pounds. They took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, accoding to the Jewish burial custom. Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden, a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by. They rolled a huge rock over the opening and sealed it. The Sanhedrian had guards there to watch it all, and guard it to keep someone from stealing his body and saying that he rose from the dead. The women went to the tomb next day, and the stone was rolled away and inside were 2 rolls of burial cloth. Jesus appeared to them and they thought he was the gardener. Later he appeared to the disciples, and Thomas doubted, so he let him put his fingers in his hands and feet. Catholics believe that Mary ascended to Heaven as did Jesus.

You come off with that attitude, but deep down when the going gets rough, you pray. ADMIT IT.

IF you are ashamed of God on Earth, he'll be ashamed of you in Heaven.

You should pray for Ace Diamond, not support him.

ECCLESIASTICUS 15

MAN IS FREE

Do not say, 'The Lord was responsible for my sinning',
for he is never the cause of what he hates.
Do not say, 'It was he who led me astray',
for he has no use for a sinner.
The Lord hates all that is foul,
and no one fears him will love it either.
He himself made man in the beginning,
and then left him free to make his own decisions,
if you wish, you can keep the commandments,
to behave faithfully is within your power.

He has set fire and water before you;
put out your hand to whichever you prefer.
Man has life and eath before him;
whichever a man likes better will be given him.
For vast is the wisdom of the Lord;
he is almighty and all-seeing.
His eyes are on those who fear him,
he notes every action of man.
He never commanded anyone to be godless,
he has given no one permission to sin.

ECCLESIASTICUS 16
Curses reaped by the wicked

Do not long for a brood of worthless children,
and take no pleasure in godless sons.
However many you have, take no pleasure in them,
unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.
Do not count of their having long life,
do not put too much faith in their future;
for better have one than a thousand,
better die childless than have godless ones.
One man of sense can populate a city,
but the race of lawless men will be destroyed.
My ees have seen many such things.
my ears have heard things still more impressive.
Fire will be kindled in a community of sinners;
the wrath was kindled in a disobedient nation.
God did not pardon the giants of old
who, confident in their strength, rebelled.
He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived,
whom he abhorred for their pride.
He had no pity on that people doomed to destruction, who were wiped out in their sins,
nor on the six hundred thousand men on the march
who banded together in their obstinacy.
Had there been even only one stubborn man,
it owuld have been astonishing if he had escaped unpunished,
since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord
who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.
His mercy is great, but his severity is as great;
he judges every man as his deeds deserve:
the sinner shall not escape with his ill-gotten gians,
nor the devout man's patience go for nothing.
He allows free play to his mercy;
yet every man shall be treated as his deeds deserve.

Certainty of retribution

Do not say, 'I will hide from the Lord,
who will remember me up there?
I shall certainly not be noticed among so many;
what am I in the immensity of creation?'
Why look, the sky and the heavens above the sky,
the deep and the earth tremble at his visitation.
The mountains and the base of the earth together
quail and tremble when he looks at them.
But who bothers his head about such things?
Who attempts to understand the way he moves?
The storm wind itself is invisible,
and most of what he does goes undetected.
'Who will report whether justice has been done?
Who will be expecting it? The covenant is far away.
Such are the thoughts of the man of little sense,
the rash misguided man wh loves his illusions.

Man in Creation

Listen to me, my son, and learn knowledge,
and give your whole mind to my words,
I will expound discipline to a nicety,
and proclaim knowledge with precision.

When God created his works in the beginning,
he alloted them their portions as soon as they were made.
He determined his works for all time,
from the beginnings to their distant future.
They knowneither hunger nor weariness,
and they never desert their duties.
None has ever jostled its neighbour,
they will never disobey his word.
And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth,
and filled it with his good things.
He covered its surface with every kind of animal,
and to it they will return.

ALSO, INDIANS CAN'T DRINK!! My little brother is Cherokee Indian, and takes depression meds, and drinks. It makes him mean.

God gave you a hellava life so you would become strong, not mean and foolish. He wants you to use your experiences to help others who are also struggling. Go to AA and get help; Tell of your bad experiences, get it off your chest before Satan kills you. The angry evil you are feeling is depression. Go to the local mental health center run by the state and get medicine so you can cope. Talk it out with a counsellor.

Dear God,
Please forgive us all for our sins, our faults and our failures. Please forgive us for the things we have done, and the things we have failed to do in our lives.
Never let us pretend we don't need you as the things of this world run through our brains.
God, please put your white light of holy, unconditional love and protection around us. Please lead, guide, guard, direct and protect us now and always.
God, please take our side against Satan and all his empty promises. God, please put a wall of holy arch angels, especially Michael around Ace Diamond and all who need protection from Satan.
God, help us to be able to forgive, and try to work thru to closure on all the things Satan has tested us with in our lives. And please help us to know and realize that they are not your burdens.
Thank you God for all the blessings in our lives, our families, our friends, even our enemies for they force us to try harder.
God give us strength and the ability to cope. Amen.

How about it Christians, are you going to let Satan rule?

Sounds like it.

Are you going to acknowledge God or Satan?

If you keep refusing to acknowledge him, he will not acknowledge you when you cry out for him.

I'm starting a Testimony thread. That is what Arielle's Dump needs.
If Mother Tereasa could bring God's love and light to the people who ate from the dump; surely a few Christians from DLR Army could bring God's love and light to Arielle's Dump.

This is interesting blondgirl. I'm sceptical too.

I was wondering: when your little one was born, did you have any sort of "spriitual" experience? Like "there must be a higher meaning to life" as a result of the miracle of childbirth?

Just interested to know....
