Holy fucking shit. . .

I haven't listened to VHI in weeks so I popped it in today. I forgot how AMAZING I'm the One is! Everything about it is absolutely stellar. Ed, Al and Mike all sound like they're all flying out of control about to crash, yet they all hold it together tighter than a . . .(insert crude pussy joke here). Dave is badass as usual, and his lyrics foreshadow the next 27 years so well that it's really creepy. The vocal harmony in the middle is hilarious and amazing at the same time, and then they pull it all together for an incredible ending, caddenza feat. EVH and all.

Top notch CVH. . .it's moments like this when I'm especially glad I'm not a Journey fan

Show your praise for this gem here. . .

what always blows me away is the energy and power they had at that age! dave's lyrics were so superior to "usual" rock lyrics. it's also interesting to hear how dave's voice and singing style changed from pure strength to pure cleverness with the years.

Absolutely. . .They still had that "fire" in them at that time. Even moreso than any other part of the six-pack. They were still young and wild, right out of the clubs. You can't fake that kind of energy. Very few bands or albums ever possess it. Off the top of my head, the only other band that ever had it was GnR when they did AFD. Maybe Aerosmith on Rocks, too.

I love the story about the name.

It was going to be called "Show Your Love" and then at the last minute Dave changed it to "I'm The One" because it had a cooler attitude to it.

I love this song! It swings like not many songs do...

This song is the absolute textbook example of what Van HALEN was all about

They did it with Cherone, at Cherone's request. Even Eddie admitted he couldn't play certiain sections anymore and has no idea how he played what he played back when.
