I'll take them both up til, oh, 1988 or 1989...after that, they both got VERY old VERY quickly. I don't think either of them have done anything really outstanding in years and can't see any reason why either bands really keep on going, seriously...

Dave Mustaine is a much better guitar player than Hetfield. James chugs (albeit fast and tight) power chords whereas Dave plays some awesome complex rhythms and still manages to sing over them. Dave's a better songwriter too, not all his songs sound the same. Also, Megadeth routinely has better lead guitarists than Kirk Hammet.

The first 4 METALLICA cds alone put them at the TOP of the METAL MOUNTAIN.

METALLICA...easily. And I really like their last album...better than anything since JUSTICE. The SNAKE album was just too polished in certain parts, though there are great songs.

Yeah, and how many of these were written by Megadeth ?
(Dave Mustaine)

Food for thought !

Personally, I love both.

If I had to choose back in the 80's I would have said
Metallica.. Nowadays, Megadeth for sure...

They have always been really close in my book..

If you love really early Metallica, you cant deny Megadeth.

Yep!

Whoever said Dave's a better guitarist is right, he plays much more complex stuff and is amazing live.

Megadeth is the better/more talented band.

I prefer Metallica though...IMO James is a far better singer than Dave.
I find Dave's voice gets tiring after awhile.

Their later stuff is not that terrible...you just have to seperate it from the earlier stuff.
They went from Metal Kings to one hell of a rock band.

The first 2 Metallica albums for sure where almost entirely written by Mustaine during his time with Metallica.

Has anyone ever seen the Cliff em All video? There's a pretty cool version of Whiplash on there (with Mustaine on lead)

I have to agree with you Panamark,Mustaine had a little lapse in judgement with "Risk" but otherwise he hasn't "sold out as much as Hetfield and Ulrich have

Bingo!

Although both are quite capable of releasing a song here or there that I like. "Fuel" was prolly a oler song from the good ol' Cliff Burton days!

I actually think Risk was a pretty good record, just not exactly a good Megadeth record but there were some good tunes on there.

Both bands were good for the first four albums and then sucked their way through the '90s...but Megadeth put out a great record last year and that alone makes me pick them.

Metallica kicked ass through Master Of Puppets. And Justice For All was solid. The 'Black Album' was so-so. After that Metallica just didn't do it for me.

Was never a huge fan of Megadeth, although I concede that Dave is more interesting to me than Kirk or James.

Metallica by a long shot.

claim whatever you want, about polotics, selling out, whatever...
Metallica kicks your momma's ass.

I saw them live back in '03 in the Summer Sanitarium tour, and they brought Giant stadium to the fucking ground with thier performance.

Don't get me wrong, Dave and his attempt at a rival band is good...but seriously, I never heard, or seen anything by megadeth that would make me think they are a better band.

Hell...

The only thing megadeth has over metallica is the last albulms via comparasion...

And that's only because metallica chose not to add guitar solos, and went for a garage band sound.

I never fully got into either i like both bands music for speed metal

both are the tops.

I am not so turned on by the lack of individual notes i am ignorant
of the proper way of saying that just too fast and aggressive.

I had just started getting down w metalica years ago when i read or saw something about Mustain really being the" Inventor creator "
of this type of music and Metalica getting all the Glory and Money
and jerking Mustain around i was turned off at that moment.

Reminded me of anouther rip off that made a fortune Van Hagar.
