I guess it must have been something. How that qualifies as a "scary" movie is beyond me...Christ, it should have been replaced with "Live: Without a Net"...

Now THAT was scary.

Halloween was realistic to me..it could happen..no one would have thought twice back then if they saw that dude walkin down the street on halloween..
One if the best scenes was when the girl was on the phone in front of the patio doors and the guy was 8 ft away...she does a real small stroll across the room and when she comes back he's gone..fuckin creepy man...

Where the hell is Basic Instinct?

Willy Wonka was probably thrown on their because of that scene where they board "Wonka-tania" and they travel threw that tunnel.

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining?
Is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes, the danger must be growing
'Cause the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!

Honest to God, the loudest I ever screamed in a movie was at the Large Marge scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

When she turned and her eyes go popping out of her head and her ears twist and turn, I literally leapt of my seat. While in mid-air, I began to laugh hyterically and continued to do so for a solid two minutes.

I've seen it since, and the "special" effects there are the crappest in the world! STILL cracks me up!

Scariest shit in a movie for me is in "Alien" when that thing ripped right out through that dude's stomach... that was some fucked up shit... although, the demonic pig in the window of "The Amityville Horror" was pretty wacky too... OR the wierd evil dogs guarding the grave of Damien's mother in "The Omen" was far out... OR when the Prince of Darkness escapes from his vat in "John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness"... OR that dude that was starved by Kevin Spacey in "Se7en" --and he's still alive!! Wow... OR the ENTIRE MOVIE of "Requiem for a Dream" by Darren Aronofsky--starring my main babe Jennifer Connolly. That's a fucked up film...

Scariest movie for me, ever, I think, was the original Nightmare On Elm Street. Now, don't laugh - this was 1984 when I saw it, so I was all of 10 years old and had never seen a horror movie before, so...I was definitely impressionable, and my Dad also knew that I was a big fan of dream interpretation and fantasy movies (usually the D&D like stuff...Conan, Red Sonja, Dungeon Master, Beast Master, et al). The first Elm Street hit me on a very primal level and I remember being totally freaked out before going to sleep for weeks afterwards.

Of course, by the time Elm Street 4 hit, Freddy was such a laughing stock I couldn't ever watch the first movie and remember what the hell had bothered me so much, but at the time, it was something. The first three Elm Streets were pretty damn freaky for growing up around them, I think.

OUTSTANDING flick!

Although the ending was kinda confusing for me, I wasn't exactly sure what to make of it...but Sam Neill, so far as I'm concerned, is one of the best horror actors in the industry when he does horror. I've loved him ever since Omen III...Event Horizon was fucking killer, too; I don't often say I'd love to see a sequel to a horror flick, but I'd be happy on both of those accounts (Mouth of Madness and Horizon).

Another good one - "Prince of Darkness", most notable because Alice Cooper played a homeless man leading a mass of homeless people that get possessed by the spirit of the Anti-God.

Outstanding film! A John Carpenter thing...didn't get much in the way of acclaim, but the story was great! Well worth the rent.

The first Evil Dead turned my stomach - low budget, but it was still a pretty sick gorefest, for it's time.

Evil Dead 2? Even better, but of course the slapstick element was definately creeping in...

The whole Evil Dead trilogy is just a great way to burn a Saturday afternoon in cult Heaven...

The fact that the original FRIDAY THE 13TH had so many sequels, many of which were cheap and not scary, has damaged its reputation. I would still call the original FRIDAY THE 13TH one of the scariest movies ever made. The whole concept of being in the middle of a campsite miles from anything else, in the middle of the night, scares the piss out of me. The murders are freaky, the sets and total darkness in some of the movie scares me. The scene where Adrienne King is in the pantry and Betsy starts turning the door-handle and then starts hacking at the door...fucking freaky! Great, great flick.

I still think The Exorcist is right up there in terms of being one of the, if not THE, scariest movies ever.

And I mean the original version and not that new one that came out in 2000.

You know, I have to say that I enjoyed the 2000 version...probably because that's obviously the only version I saw in theatres. I thought the spider scene was fucking shocking and very brilliant. But yes, the ending in the original was definitely more effective.

How about Buffalo Bill in "Silence of the Lambs"?

"You wanna fuck me? I'd fuck me..."

"Don't you hurt PRECIOUS you fuckin' BITCH!!"

"Put the lotion in the FUCKIN BASKET!!! AAAHHHHHGGG!!!"

A man after my own heart...... to EAT my heart that is... what a creep

Buffalo Bill freaks the living shit outta me! Man, he's way scarier than Hannibal Lector in that flick, yet he never gets as much attention. Has anyone seen "Manhunter"? It was the first Lector flick made in 1988, thats some pretty scary shit as well, it got pushed into obscurity because of the success of "Silence of the Lambs" though.

One movie that never fails to give me goosebumps is "The Shinning". Man the part where Danny is on his bike and all off a sudden those little girls appear at the end of the hall, gives me shivers. And theres the scene where Jack Nicholson is in the mens room with the ghost of Grady, when the camera switches to Grady's face as he talks about killing his family, he just looks so fucking evil. Awesome stuff!

I was always a huge Friday the 13th fan as a youngster, great sleepover flicks. They don't scare me as much now as they did then. It's always great fun watching Betsy Palmer go nuts in the first one though.

Totally agree with you all on the excorcist and Evil Dead.

Two classics.. The Excorcist fucked me up for ages, I remember
sprinting in the dark from light switch to light switch just to get back
to my room at night.. LOL..
I think its that subliminal evil skull face that flashes on the screen
for a millisecond. Fucks with your brain..

On the other side of the coin, Scary Movie 2, the crappiest film ever,
but the intro (a take off of The Excorcist) is hillarious.. When the
girl is going "Fuck me" "Fuck me" and the old priest jumps on top
of her and starts humping her !!! :)

That cracked me up :)

When I first watched The Exorcist a good 10 years ago, couldn't sleep for like a week...no movie has ever done that to me. I just rewatched a few months ago for the first since then the director's cut version. Wasn't as bad this time round although the only scene I couldn't watch was the hospital blood transfusion scene, took a small glimpse of it and I swear almost fainted on the living room floor.

The Hitcher was scary as hell.

When the kid picks up the hitchhiker and says "My mom told me never to do this"
And the Hitcher says "Do I look like a killer to you?"

Of course, I, myself would never pick up anyone (boy or girl) on the side of the road but my husband and i drove a lot coast to coast (Canadian and U-S) and you would be surprised on how many people still hitch hike (boys AND GIRLS)...

It must work!... Those people obviously never saw that movie...

Very scarry...

A lot of movies are good to warn us that we should never :
Help strangers, open the door to unexpected people, trust the police (or the government)...
And we should always fear:
The man with the ugly face, the one that looks too nice, cemitaries, mental institutes etc...

Most of them make you want to own a gun and "defend yourself'.

The movies that really get me are the ones about the unknown:
The spirits, the ghosts, enigmas of mad scientists, crasy doctors that will steel your body parts etc...

Yeah I have that soundtrack too, it's killer! Even in the 70s, that music was so ahead of it's time. "Ave Satani" made the movie what it was.

Is that in the scene where Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) is walking into his dark home ready to kill Damien and the dog (the Jackal) who's assigned to protect the anti-Christ comes walking down the stairs and whispers..."Anti-christo, ant-christo".

Hell yeah, great scene with marvellous music!

BTW, the late great Jerry Goldsmith deservedly won an Oscar for that score.

Phantasm was a grate serious, each one...except for II, I didn't care much for replacing Mike, but oh well, the story was good. I hope they end it soon.

As far as Omen was concerned, Omen III made me a fan of Sam Neill for life...he did such as awesome job as the adult Damien, man, what a grate film.
