Nothing anyone can believe right now. Every team is lying about who they want, who they need.

This draft should have more trades than we've seen in a long time in my opinion.

POJO_Risin
04-22-2005, 02:07 PM
I honestly think that this could be one of the most INTERESTING draft days of all time...

no one knows who's going to be 1...and to be honest...it could be any of 10 guys...it only depends on who deals up to get it...

should be a fun day...can't fucking wait...

DLR7884
04-22-2005, 02:21 PM
Yeah, the funny thing is that since the 49ers are so cheap, Aaron Rogers can go #1 overall (since they aren't willing to pay Alex Smith what Eli got paid).....or he could drop out of the top 10, maybe even the top 15.

DLR7884
Should be a fun draft, with so many trade possibilities.

POJO_Risin
04-22-2005, 02:39 PM
It's funny that the 49ers are really the laughingstock right now...hard to get that...when they were the creme de la creme for 15 years...

now...just an afterthought...if they take Rogers #1...they blew another draft...

They'd only take him because they are too cheap to pay Smith what he's "worth."

lmfao...that shit is funny...

They screwed their cap so much over the years. Adrian Petersen was a stud linebacker until he ripped his Achilles, but yet they still franchise him. Money for nothing.

The only thing you can say is that they are keeping the other teams guessing and took a little of the thunder from the Doplhins, who assumed they had the best bargaining chip at numer 2. The Niners started flip flopping on who they were targeting to make sure they would have to be spoken to about any move up pretty much.

But when York took over the purse strings, shit went bad in a hurry for them. They're in a bad way and it will take a lot longer this time around compared to the last time they were in "salary cap jail" while Mooch was there.

Niners lead off unpredictable NFL draft

April 22, 2005

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The consensus is that there is no consensus No. 1 pick in the 2005 NFL draft. Forget about even figuring out a top five.

The San Francisco 49ers will go about the business of looking out for No. 1 when the draft commences on Saturday. It could very well turn out to be the defining pick for new coach Mike Nolan and vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan.

After narrowing the choices down to junior quarterbacks Alex Smith of Utah and Aaron Rodgers of California and receiver Braylon Edwards of Michigan, it appears the Niners have settled on Smith.

But then there's the signability factor. Tom Condon, Smith's agent, doubts that a deal can get done before Saturday's draft.

"We still are going to listen to other teams to discuss trade possibilities," Nolan said. "We have been all along and will continue to be open to a trade."

If Smith or Rodgers is called first by commissioner Paul Tagliabue, it would mark the fifth consecutive year a quarterback is chosen No. 1 overall, following Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, David Carr and Michael Vick.

But this quarterback would also join a hallowed lineage which has gone from Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Steve Young to Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia in San Francisco.

The 6-4 Smith led Utah to a 21-1 record in two years as a starter, including 12-0 last season. Operating out of a shotgun in a four-wide option attack with multiple formations, Smith completed 68 percent of his passes and threw for 32 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 631 yards and 10 scores.

The 6-2 Rodgers has a stronger arm than Smith and more experience running a pro-style offense. But there is concern over Rodgers' size. He is not as physically gifted as former California quarterback Kyle Boller, a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2003, but is more accurate.

The 6-3 Edwards has a chance to be the first receiver to be selected No. 1 overall since Keyshawn Johnson in 1996. He caught 249 passes for 3,503 yards and 39 touchdowns in his three years as a starter at Michigan.

The Miami Dolphins own the second overall pick and new coach Nick Saban would like to trade down for extra selections. Saban is on the verge of recovering a second-round pick from Kansas City for cornerback Patrick Surtain. The Dolphins sent their original second-round pick to Philadelphia for A.J. Feeley.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly have considered moving up from No. 5 overall to Miami's position if Smith is available. If not, Saban will likely select Auburn's Ronnie Brown, who is considered to be the most complete running back in the draft.

The Dolphins ranked 31st in the NFL in rushing last year after losing Ricky Williams, who abruptly retired before the start of training camp.

Another team under a new regime - the Cleveland Browns with general manager Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel - own the third overall pick. If Smith and Brown are the first two picks, then the Browns will likely select either Edwards or Rodgers.

The Chicago Bears have the fourth pick and general manager Jerry Angelo is believed to be enamored with Texas running back Cedric Benson, who ranks sixth on the NCAA career rushing list with 5,540 yards.

Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is seeking an offensive playmaker at No. 5 and could go for Southern California receiver Mike Williams, a perfect fit in a West Coast offense, or Auburn running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams.

The Tennessee Titans may take the first defensive player in the draft with the sixth overall pick. After losing both of their starting cornerbacks - Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson - the Titans may opt for University of Miami cornerback Antrel Rolle.

Linebackers Derrick Johnson of Texas and Shawne Merriman of Maryland, Rolle and fellow cornerbacks Adam "Pac-Man" Jones of West Virginia and Carlos Rogers of Auburn, safety Thomas Davis of Georgia and ends DeMarcus Ware of Troy State and Marcus Spears of Louisiana State are considered to be the top defensive players in the draft.

The Minnesota Vikings, Dallas, San Diego and Washington each have two first-round picks. The Vikings acquired the seventh overall pick in the deal which sent receiver Randy Moss to the Oakland Raiders.

The New York Giants and New York Jets, Buffalo and Denver do not have first-round selections. The Giants sent their pick, which turned out to be No. 12 overall, in the package for Manning last season.

The draft is being held at the Javits Center after a long stay at Madison Square Garden. The first three rounds will be held on Saturday and the remaining four rounds on Sunday.

unprecedented...2 tailbacks taken top 5...

I'm not a big Cadillac fan...but we'll see...I think both those Auburn backs are good...but I just don't see them both making a major impact...we'll see thought...

both end up in Florida...

Kiper also ... he's had a tough week anyways ... and he hates to keep repeating himself about it, he had Williams the #1 player in this draft overall. He knew he wouldn't go #1, just thinks he is the best player.

Antrel Rolle to the Cards...a great pick IMO...and a huge steal...

next up...Washington...I agree...they need to go corner...

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 02:04 PM
I could see them run up and take Williams though...and try and deal Gardner again...or did they deal him already?

ALinChainz
04-23-2005, 02:05 PM
Oh no, I'm just saying they have a shot. Millen thinks he will be a TE in this league anyway. Now if THAT'S their thinking, I could see it.

I'm hoping they still go Derrick Johnson of Texas.

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 02:05 PM

still no deals...

he's a top 3 pick...

POJO_Risin

I just remember watching him separate in college...looked pretty explosive to me...and I think back to Jerry Rice...his first couple of years...his knock was speed...and he took care of those questions by becoming a pretty good deep threat...and created separation by working hard...

I see Williams as the same kind of guy...

We had just signed Kevin Johnson, no way did we think they had the balls.

He isn't talking like they told him anything about TE. He said teams better look out.

Pretty happy house of people here.

New Orleans deals up for a 3rd rounder next year...and nabs Jammal Brown...Carolina was going to take him...

Carolina needs a WR...or offensive line help...wouldn't be surprised to see them deal this pick...or go with Alex Barron...

ALinChainz
04-23-2005, 03:07 PM
They had said that they were for the first time in awhile, in a position to take the best player available, regardless of position.

Joey will really be under the gun to get it done now. Williams salary at #10 will be a bargain for a player like that.

Warham
04-23-2005, 03:11 PM
I am soooo stoked that we got Williams!

Just think, you might say in a year or two that Roy Williams is your 2nd best WR. Detroit might have the best talent at that spot now, with the Williams boys, Rogers and Pollard, and friggin' Kevin Jones in the backfield. They are going to run defenses ragged when all those guys come together.

:D

POJO_Risin

Dude...there is no doubt in my mind that Mike Williams is a better player...

remember...Mike wanted to be in last years draft WAR...and was top five projected...

he's better than Roy...

You have a great potential for offense...again...did they address their needs?

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 03:19 PM
Millen did the smart thing...at that slot...there wasn't anyone close to Williams talentwise...

Charles Rogers has to be scared out of his mind though...

This guy is reminiscent of Derrick Thomas...speed rusher...

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 04:05 PM
I think the one surprise thusfar is Travis Johnson...most mocks had him going in the bottom half of this draft...and Aaron Rodgers...talk about losing millions...

Better than Roy ... I'm not sure I agree with that, maybe a shade from the unknown, watching Roy week in and week out, man ... he played through a bad ankle also. One handed grabs, good blocker ... Rogers, Millen says he's not even worried. He's added 15 lbs of muscle, faster than ever, conceivable that he could work out.

Like I said...there really wasn't even a doubt last year who was better...

and if I remember correctly...there were many Roy doubters...

I think you are going to see a special...special player...

You know...it is possible...that Roy Williams is the 3rd best receiver on that team if Rogers is healthy...

I also got to see Williams week in and week out...and I saw him make some just incredible passes...

I also saw him drop some easy ones...

He only really started to drop after the ankle. He is a little smaller than Mike, but visibly faster. The options on this team now, and the running game could benefit most. Rogers is probably the 3rd best on this team in my opinion, but the best deep threat certainly.

ALinChainz

I think he'll play wideout really. Now they have Jimmy Smith, Reggie Williams, last year's #1, and Jones who is just sickly fast. Being a QB, would seem like his transition to the position would be easy.

Reimersma was a QB in high school ... not many QBs become TEs.

I see Dan Cody sliding a bit...Shaun Cody as well...not much...but a bit...if either one slides down far enough...Pittsburgh may go that route...

Had to go WR, Price sucks, I still think Jenkins can be someone.

White was a good pick here, and I hate the Falcons.

Fuck...they had to go WR...I agree...shit...Pittsburgh's going to have to take fucking Miller...alright...San Diego's going to go Offensive Line here I'd have to believe...Barnes maybe?...or they could grab one of those Cody's...who keep sliding...

04-23-2005, 05:39 PM
Castillo from NW...didn't this kid use andro-stack?

with both Cody's available...to me...a bit of a surprise...

I think the Colts are going to go Shaun Cody here...a big guy who can stop the run...and play both end or tackle...

ALinChainz
04-23-2005, 05:41 PM
I think Barnes would have been the better pick there IMO.

Castillo never tested positive at Northwestern he only went the roid route when he had the bad elbow so he could go to the combine.

He wrote all 32 teams and explained this to him and must have came off good in his interviews.

Good pick for the Colts, excellent.

Just excellent.

EXCELLENT.

Probably stole him from Pittsburgh, they may have went corner there.

:D

Miller still a good pick there, Ben will use him big time.

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 05:47 PM
They did steal him from Pittsburgh...well...they have some options here...they could surprise and go with a Cody...

they could go Khalif Barnes...they need a tackle...

or of course...Miller...who I'm not thrilled with...

The question though Al...is his health for one...not thrilled with a sports hernia...

and will Pittsburgh use him?

Well...I guess they'll have to use him now...won't they...

oh well...crap...

I don't like it, just DO NOT LIKE IT....

Who knows if they would have even taken Jones hadn't Jacksonville grabbed him at 21....

But I don't see using the #1 pick on the 2nd reincarnation of Mark Bruener, UNLESS they make a MAJOR revision to the offense to utilize the TE more, which I just don't see them doing....

As the Steelers' pick was getting closer, I was like you Poj, I was hoping for Cody from Oky.....

Well, I'd say either DE or OG in Round 2....

Clarett goes to Denver with #101 pick, the last of the 3rd round and of the first day.

Bell and Dayne out there in front of him.

About 3 rounds earlier than anyone thought he'd go.

Unreal.

04-23-2005, 11:11 PM
Imagine what Denver can do with a RB that had shown promise in college? They've taken a bunch of no names (except Portis) and made them stars. If Clarret can keep his head on straight, this could be the steal of the draft. Of course since we're dealing with Clarrett he could be the next Lawrence Phillips.

POJO_Risin
04-23-2005, 11:54 PM
Still a questionable pick from Denver...

first they forfeit a fucking pick...

then they fucking use a pick on Clarett...at least 2 rounds before anyone else would have done it...

someone's going to take some serious heat for that...

and they don't even need a fucking back with Griffin and Bell there...

morons...

Bradley from OSU?...Ohio State?...surely you didn't say OSU...and mean Oklahoma State...

Christ...never heard of him to be honest...

I liked Benson more than Brown...based on performance over three years...Benson may be more talented...but Cedric is a performer...fuck the combines...

Bears sold on Bradley's speed, toughness
By Larry Mayer
April 23, 2005

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Wide receiver Mark Bradley didn't have the gaudiest statistics at Oklahoma, but his tremendous speed, athleticism and toughness earned him a ticket to Chicago as the Bears' second-round draft pick.

Bradley initially lined up at cornerback when he transferred to Oklahoma from Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2002, but he moved back to his natural receiver position in 2003 despite the presence of four other NFL prospects.

Getty Images
Seven of Mark Bradley's 23 receptions last season went for touchdowns.
Last season Bradley had 23 receptions for 491 yards and seven touchdowns while also excelling on special teams as a return man and gunner on the punt coverage team.

"Our game is speed and toughness and he has an abundance of both," said Bears general manager Jerry Angelo. We feel he'll find his niche here and are real comfortable with him."

Bradley improved his draft stock immeasurably during offseason workouts. He was timed at 4.34 and 4.37 in the 40-yard dash during his pro day at Oklahoma after running a 4.43 and impressing scouts with his route-running and pass-catching ability at the NFL combine.

"We were looking at the ceiling with him," Angelo said. "(But) it's not just about potential. This guy has played. He's done good things. We're very comfortable with him. In our eyes, he earned his stripes on the field. We didn't go just based on his combine numbers, which I thought were extraordinary."

At Pine Bluff High School in Arkansas, Bradley lined up as a receiver, quarterback, defensive back, punt returner and kick returner. In track, he set the state high-jump record at 7'4" and broke the state meet record in the long jump at 24'7½".

Bradley initially stayed close to home, playing two years at Arkansas-Pine Bluff before transferring to Oklahoma, where his father, David, was a standout quarterback from 1981-84.

After sitting out in 2002 due to transfer rules, Bradley played his final two seasons with the Sooners. As a junior, he caught 11 passes for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging an eye-popping 35.3 yards on seven kick returns.

Getty Images
Mark Bradley averaged 21.3 yards per catch in 2004 for Oklahoma.
Bradley earned more playing time as a senior despite competing at receiver with NFL prospects Mark Clayton, Brandon Jones, Will Peoples and Travis Wilson.

"We just liked the way he was growing and developing in the program," Angelo said, "and we felt that if he had another year left, as did his coaches, that the sky was the limit for him."

Bradley is excited about joining the Bears and eager to reunite with former Sooners teammate Tommie Harris in Chicago. Harris started all 16 games at defensive tackle for the Bears as a rookie last season after arriving as the 14th overall pick in the draft.

"It's a great feeling to know that Chicago picked me in the second round and really wants me to come out and be a threat as a receiver as well as a special teams player," Bradley said.

"For me to be able to be in Chicago along with an old teammate, and for him to show me around, it's a tremendous opportunity."

Bradley brings a speed element to the Bears receiving corps that is generally lacking with the exception of 2004 third-round pick Bernard Berrian.

Nugent is a great pickup...but any time a kicker gets drafted early...he generally disappoints because no kickers get picked...

I think back to that dude from USC about 15 years ago...and to Seb Janikowski...

now Nugent...who should have been drafted...but certainly not on day one...

Here we go, more injuries excuses... Do your homework, the Steelers had major injuries all season long and were still 15-1....

And to enlighten you further, the Birds signed former Steeler OG Keydrick Vincent....

But that's OK, you can just remain content that Mr. Overrated, aka Ray Lewis, and his stupid little dance will get you to the mountain top again....
