I just recently bought the Queen: Live at Wembley in 1986. I already had the double cd. I bought the double DVD the same day I bought AC/DC: Family Jewels double DVD.

Freddy Mercury had that audience right in the palm of his hand. WOW!

Not really true.

Freddie was a great frontman, but I wouldn't say that he WAS Queen. I think people need to give more credit to the other 3. You have to remember that it was BRIAN MAY who wrote 'Hammer To Fall', 'Tie Your Mother Down', 'We Will Rock You', 'Fat Bottomed Girls' etc. It was ROGER TAYLOR who wrote 'Sheer Heart Attack', 'A Kind of Magic', 'I'm In Love With My Car', 'Radio Ga Ga' along with many strange, very non-commercial early songs. JOHN DEACON wrote 'Another One Bites The Dust' and 'I want To Break Free'. Maybe not Queen's GREATEST songs in the case of Roger/John, but some of their biggest hits.

Brian tended to write the heavier stuff, the more rock 'n' roll stuff, wheras the majority of Freddie's songs were piano-based.

Although I don't think that Freddie WAS Queesn, I don't think they would have become as big as they did without him up front.

Shaun, Queen undoubtedly is/was a great band.

ANY band should be about all of the parts bringing something to the table.

I had a chance to see Queen live on two occassions. Both of them he sang acapella while the others took a breather. The hair on the back of my neck stood up from the notes he was hitting.

I've never had another lead singer do that in a live performance. He had the ability to make the crowd behave the way he wanted because he WAS that good. Dave can get the crowd going too, but for different reasons.

That last performance at Wembley is trememdous for a couple of reasons...yes, he and the band knew that he was dealing with AIDS and how rough it was on him physically, and 2 they had no idea that this would be their last hurrah into the sunset.

My heart goes out to the remaining members of the band because they deserve to make a wage and not just live off of the legacy of what was. If they continue with Robbie Williams or Paul Rodgers they should find a new name and not carry the Queen title. Maybe if they took a name from one of their songs or call it Freddie.

Here's their latest set list w/ Paul...

Yea, Queen were great, I would love Brian/Roger to record an album with Paul Rodgers, and I wish they would have done it BEFORE the tour. Actually, they might be planning an album, but wanted to see if they work together first.

he's not the best, but Rod Jackson of Slash's Snakepit. The guy who sang on their Ain't Life Grand. I've rarely heard a better, more emotional vocalist. Sad part is...he's probably out on the street selling crack somewhere now. Slash's Snakepit didn't sell very many albums but Ain't Life Grand is another Appetite for Destruction.

Howlin' Wolf
Elvis Presley
James Brown
Tina Turner
Eric Burdon
Phil May
Janis Joplin
Taj Mahal
John Fogerty
Johnny Winter
Robert Plant

Freddie Mercury
David Lee Roth

I avoid the last two decades on purpose, I don't really dig the big voices that have appeared ever since.

I met him in February. What a cool guy. It was the first time I'd heard his music, but I was impressed. Great guitarist, too. For him to be so friendly to people coming up to his autograph stand (it was a music festival) was awesome -- he got my respect that day, that's for sure.

Yeah, but the recent Queen tour isn't the same without Freddie.

Brian May is also one of those 'instantly recognisable' guitar players, so he is part of Queen's sound.

Well, no, but then they haven't written any material. If you're talking about Freddie WAS the Queen performance, OK, I'll agree. If you're talking about Freddie WAS Queen's music, I don't. Paul Rodgers is a different kind of performer.

I've found information about her and Heart, but couldn't hear any extracts. So, the next step is to get a record or two, maybe "Dog and butterfly" or "Heart", but it seems uneasy where I live because I'm afraid they've never really crossed the Atlantic farther than Britain, unfortunately.
But I'm glad to have some "new" stuff to discover.

It seems nobody's mentioned Bon Scott yet.

And er... well, ha! ha! I know he sang in "strange" English with an odd teutonic accent, but Klaus Meine was (but I think Scorpions are still playing today) a powerful vocalist too, wasn't he?

Peter Wolf with the J. Geils band was terrific, in another style.

Our French-speaking Belgian genius, Jacques Brel, was tremendous in his kind.

Peter Wolf was an incredible frontman and had a ton of style. I saw him live with J Geils many times and he always had the crowd on their feet and having a great time. He interacted from beginning to end. It really was like a party at his shows.

In 1969 came Ian Gillan. Talk about power!! Just listen to Child In Time off of Made In Japan. Fucking amazing.

Then in the late 70s, Rob Halford hit the scene. THE Most powerful vocalist ever!!!!

I heard nobody after that who could even compare to the range and power Halford had (except of course for Ian Gillan).

Then in the mid-90s came Tim Owens.

Now THAT motherfucker is the most powerful voice on the planet.
Sheer adrenaline-fueled intensity!

Also, I must say that one of the greatest rock vocalists of the past 30 years has got to be Ann Wilson.

I saw Heart on their tour in 2003, and she blew me away. She sounds as awesome as she ever did. Fucking amazing.

Top 3:

1. MICHAEL KISKE - Still the best singer out there, has anyone listened to Do I Remember A Life?

2. BRUCE DICKINSON - One of the originals, only surpassed by the above man, but my personal favorite.

3. ERIC ADAMS - I used to think he wasn't really half as good as the other Metal singers - although he is the ONLY frontman for the best band in the world - until I listened to him sing 'Nessun Dorma'. Wow...!

And then, there's most of the other Metal singers...
