Yes I love soccer/football.

I've been a Manchester United supporter for many years.

Speaking of Man U, if they don't get rid of Roy Carrol then he must have photos of someone! Really, what the fuck is going on with that? I hear he might stay!

Can't believe Liverpool 1 Chelsea 0. I was sure Chelsea would score.

Yes, an interview in 1984, Freddie was in Munich recording 'Mr. Bad Guy', and he was promoting the Queen album 'The Works', and he was asked what kind of an artist he was, to which he replied "No, I don't think of myself as an artist, I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear".

Actually, I'm off to see Queen + Paul Rodgers tonight.

Actually, I was quite scared during those 6 extra minutes that they WOULD score.

Jose, the big-headed bastard "The better team lost", if you look at the stats, bollocks, it was more or less even, other than the fact that Chelsea only had ONE shot on target.

What do you think?
Was it a goal?
Because if it wasn't a goal, it would have been a penalty anyways.

Mr Badguy

It wasn`t the best game in the world.

Liverpool were set up to defend so the early (jammy) goal suited the way they were playing.

I bet that will have taken the shine off of the league win for Chelsea.

Up the (Glasgow) Rangers!

I watched the game live and when I saw the 'goal' the first time I was sure it WAS a goal. Apparently there's no conclusive photos to prove it went over the line and now looking at it a few times I'm not so sure. But I do agree it should have been a penalty if it wasn't given as a goal.

When I said I was sure Chelsea would score I was thinking about the two legs overall. I can't believe they didn't score one single goal against the fifth placed team in the EPL.

Liverpool have a history of winning in European competition and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win it.

Whatever happens, it looks like you made the right choice with Benitez.

Yeah but if they win it, they can`t defend it next year.

England ONLY get FOUR places and Liverpool are fifth.

It makes a mockery of the so-called "Champion`s league".

It`s set up to protect the clubs who will pull in more TV viewers.

UEFA don`t want to see, for example, Spartak Moscow VS Galatasary in the final as they think it lacks the glamour of Barcelona VS Juventus or whatever.

It`s a corporate joke.

Only the champions from each European country should get in.

Soul Reaper

It certainly wasn't a goal against Chelsea, it clearly didn't go over the line. It went over it a bit, but no more than that!

Liverpool won't go into the Champion's League next year if they win the whole thing! That's what UEFA said.

Shaun Ponsonby

Besides, UEFA have said they might bend the rules a bit if Liverpool win.

I agree.

But, I do think some sort of European league had to be formed. The chance to see Man U v Barcelona, or AC Milan v Real Madrid on a regular basis is great.

There's too much domestic football too. The English FA should scrap the Carling 'Who Cares' Cup.

I think this current England side, fully fit with everyone available, is a BIG chance in Germany.

Now, if we can only get the Aussies there. Looking forward to the new A-League and our entry into the Asian Football Confederation.

Chelsea had a great year anyway. First title in 50 years! I remember watching Man U winning the title for the first time in about 25 years and I'll never forget it. What a buzz. Particularly after all those years of missing out to Liverpool.

I can't stand United,Arsenal and Chelsea.
I am a fan of Tottenham Hotspur and have a soft spot for The Hammers who are currently in Div 1.

In The World Cup I never go for England,if there is no Aussie involvement I go for The Irish as I have Irish ancestry and think they play with great heart and determination.
I think Robbie Keane is a legend and am thankfull he plays for Spur's.

It's time Del Piero left Juventus. A change could reignite his career. I'd like to see him in the EPL. At Juve, it is difficult for strikers. Look at Trezeguet, both he and Del Piero are struggling while playing for a side that plays very defensively. When Zola moved to Chelsea he was a sensation.

I actually think Bolton was probably the 4th best in England this year.
Maybe a 4th Champion's League spot in England is a little generous.
I'm fucked off with Spur's not getting into UEFA,I'm bitter about th9ose 2 points they missed out on at Old Trafford just after Christmas. That is highway robbery and I knew it would come back to haunt.
There is still a tiny chance they can get in,they need City to beat Middlesborough about 1-0 and they have to beat Blackburn by about 2 goals.I think they will pound Blackburn but I'm not confident on City helping out the equation.

Hey Bomber, I'm a Man U fan but as Spurs were always my Dad's team I have them as my second side. Yes, they were so ripped off at Old Trafford. And now look how important that error might prove to be.

I like what Spurs are doing for the future. Re-inventing themselves off the field with a European style management structure and Jol as the Manager. Playing some great football. If they can qualify for Europe they have the game to do well. Just need 2 new quality signings, a striker to partner Keane and another midfielder, and they could give the EPL top three a shake.

I'm a long-time fan of Bayern Munich and the german national team, the hat I have in my avatar is theirs too...my father brought me their shirt when I was about five or six, so I guess it all started from there. I do follow the english, spanish and some of the italian league too...my fav team is Sunderland, however I do worship Alan Shearer...one of the greatest strikers ever.

As I've mentioned in the Dump, I was visiting Spain for the last few weeks...I didn't get a chance to see a La Liga match, but I did visit the stadiums and museums in Madrid (Santiago Bernabeu), Barcelona (Camp Nou), La Coruna (Deportivo's stadium). Some tradition's they've got there....it's a pity I left Madrid for Barcelona the same day Madrid played a home game, blasting their opponents 5-0...

The finnish national league does not have a good level...we do have about 12-15 very good international players, but to get to the World/Euro Championships you gotta have more than that, the injuries will always take their bite...

Jari Litmanen, remembered mostly from his glory days with Ajax Amsterdam, he's still the 3rd best scorer in the CL methinks.

Jussi Jääskeläinen, Bolton Wanderers, a great goalkeeper.

Antti Niemi, Southampton, one of the best in the Premier League.

Sami Hyypiä, Liverpool, has raised from a smaller role throughout the season to one of the most important players in their CL run...

Aki Riihilahti, Crystal Palace, Mikael Forssell, Chelsea FC...etc.

Man Utd 2 Arsenal 1. We've already taken them twice this season (including ending there winning streak), also do you really think that Fergie will allow his team to loose to Wenger in the FA Cup final?

As for the furture, yes we will have debt (and ironically we could have used Beckham to solve that) but at the end of the day Glazer is a business man. He will have to at the very least maintain the standards of the team to maintain the brand and justify his investment. This means he is aware of the fact that he will need to pump money into the club to keep us in touch with Chelsea. Anything less than that, then he will have to answer to his financers.

Yeah, after watching the FA Cup Final I still can't believe Man U didn't win it. Not only should they have won, they should have won 4 or 5-0! Man U's football was fantastic. They 'out-footballed' Arsenal. The way they kept the ball, the skill and flair of Ronaldo, Rooney and Van Nistelroy, and how they opened up Arsenal at will. BUT their finishing was terrible. 23 attempts on goal to 5!!!

The clubs only pay lip service to clamping down on it because it makes money for them.

Now we're going to have two ex Aberdeen players as the managers I wonder how much they'll talk about the 'west coast bias'?:)

Absolutely.

The criteria was there at the start of the season.

There was always the possibility of any team in the Champions league winning it and not qualifying for the following season.

There is no point moaning about it now.

Don't you think winning the final this year would be EARNING the chance to defend the title next year?

More so than coming 4th, me thinks.

Everton won't get very far in the Champions League, they haven't got the experience of playing in Europe. Liverpool have proved they can go far in the Champions League.

UEFA have actually said they will make their final desicion after the match.

I, too would like to see Everton do well (unlike SOME people I know I ain't resentful to the opposition). Personally, I think if they chuck a team out to let Liverpool in, it should be Chelsea. They didn't earn ANYTHING. They bought it all. Why not get an extra place, anyways? Even Chelsea supporters have said on Sky Sports that they think Liverpool should be given the chance to defend the title. In fact, most people on Sky Sports have said that.

Hell no.

Everton deserve their shot just as much as Liverpool did last year.

Isn`t winning the cup enough?

Even the holders of the world cup have to qualify now so I don`t hold out much hope for Liverpool.

I have a soft spot for Liverpool since the days I used to watch them when Scots were the mainstay of their team.

Everton deserve the place though.

Liverpool should be thankful that they are allowed in a 'Champions' league at all.

I hope they win though. I hate AC Milan after having to watch week after week of tedious 1-0 wins by them on Channel 4 in the 1990s.

Plus I always support the under dogs...:)

Everyone is saying it`s UEFAs decision but it ain`t.

They have given the FA four places and it`s up to them how they use them.

Now is the time for the FA to lay down new rules stating that in the event of an English team winning the Champion`s league, they will be in the following seasons competition at the expence of the fourth placed side.

Those rules cannot be used this time, however.

I think there has been a strong case to boot the fourth placed side out because it`s "only" Everton.

Would the FA tell Arsenal or Man Utd that they weren`t to qualify if they finished fourth?

I think not.

Anyhow, Liverpool got their shot by finishing fourth so they should respect Everton`s qualification.

This could also open a can of worms with teams going all out for the Champion`s League instead of their domestic league, because they would know that even if they finished tenth, they would still qualify for the Champion`s League if they won it.

Has to be the most incredible ECL final ever. I'm a Man U fan but that even tops the 1999 final for great comebacks.

I disagree with some critics who claim Milan threw it away. Liverpool actually came out after half-time and changed the game. While at no stage during the first half did Milan dominate. A goal in the first minute while evryone was still settling down, then two sucker punch goals on the break.

Liverpool were the better side both on and off the pitch and Gerrard is a great captain.

LIVERPOOL WILL DEFEND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLE NEXT SEASON, SAY UEFA.

UEFA's 14-man executive committee have decided to make a special case to allow the Reds into the first qualifying round of the competition next season.

It means Liverpool will have to play six matches in order to qualify for the group phase and it could interfere with their pre-season tour of Japan.

Liverpool, who failed to finish in a qualifying place in the Barclays Premiership, will become the fifth English side in the competition.

UEFA have also taken steps to ensure that the same scenario never occurs again by changing the rules so that in the future the title-holders will always qualify for the competition the following season.

If the Liverpool situation occurs again and the European champions fail to finish in a qualifying place in their domestic competition, however, they will come in at the expense of the fourth-placed side.

The rules will also apply for countries who only get three or two Champions League spots, but there will be a special exemption in the unlikely event of a country with one Champions League spot winning the competition but failing to win their own domestic league.

This, the arival of DLR Band CD from Ebay and purchasing a DVD of the US Fest with a bonus disc of extras, plus I finished English forever at 2.35pm. This is the greatest day in the history of civilisation.

Twas the hand of Diego, not God

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/08/24/handofgod_narrowweb__200x370.jpg

Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona on Tuesday admitted for the first time that he had deliberately used his hand to score a controversial goal against England in the 1986 World Cup.

The intervention, which Maradona infamously dubbed at the time as the "hand of God", was the first goal in a 2-1 win for Argentina over England at the knock-out quarter-final stage of the competition.

"I don't for a second regret scoring that goal with my hand," Maradona said on his own television chat show, called "Number 10 Night" in tribute to the days when he was lighting up football pitches in the number 10 shirt for Argentina.

Maradona said that the disparity in size between himself and England goalkeeper Peter Shilton meant he was never going to head the ball as it was played into the area.

The Argentinian maestro scored the goal by punching the ball into the net during a jump as Shilton leapt into the air towards the ball.

Maradona said that once the ball went into the back of the net, he looked at the touch judge and "saw that he was heading back to halfway" for the restart of the match.

"I said to my team-mates to come and embrace me and celebrate the goal. They were a little hesistant. They came over to embrace me but it was as if they were saying: 'We've robbed them'," he said.

But Maradona, the Argentinian captain at the time, said he assured his team-mates that "whoever robs a thief gets a 100-year pardon."

He was referring to British control of the Falkland Islands which lie just off Argentina and were scene of a bitter war in 1982 when the South Americans fought unsuccessfully to regain sovereignty of the islands they claimed as their own.

Oof!

For some reason this story was never posted....

Denmark 4-1 England

Denmark scored three goals in seven second-half minutes as England were humiliated in their final game before their World Cup qualifier in Wales.

Charlton's Dennis Rommedahl scored from two yards after goalkeeper David James had rashly rushed from his goal.

Rommedahl passed for Jon Dahl Tomasson to score, while Michael Gravgaard headed a corner against Steven Gerrard and into the England net.

Wayne Rooney scored a late consolation before Soren Larsen made it 4-1.

All things considered the match - England's worst defeat since losing to Wales in May 1980 - turned into everything Sven-Goran Eriksson did not want ahead of the crunch qualifier in Cardiff.

FAMOUS ENGLAND SLIP-UPS
USA 1-0 England - World Cup 1950
England 0-0 Saudi Arabia - Friendly 1998
England 2-2 Macedonia - World Cup qualifier 2002
USA 2-0 England - Friendly 1993
England 1-3 Australia - Friendly 2003

Defoe - expected to start against Wales with Michael Owen suspended - was replaced at half time after 45 minutes in which he did little to state his case for inclusion.

And England's defence looked brittle under pressure after starting the second half poorly. Only Rooney, as feisty and committed as always, really stood out for the visitors.

Denmark, on the other hand, stated their intent from the off, starting the match at a tempo more suited to a qualifier than a friendly.

Once England adjusted they did create chances, with Frank Lampard and David Beckham both peppering the goal inside the opening 15 minutes - the captain's low drive narrowly missing.

A poor pass from keeper Sorensen gifted the ball to Beckham but Defoe could not quite meet his skipper's cross and the Danish keeper eventually gathered the ball.

An error from Sorensen cost his team a goal when the two sides met at the 2002 World Cup and England had almost profited from his charity once again.

Defoe, desperate to impress, failed to convert an even better chance after 30 minutes.

I think it's time Sven chose between Lampard and Gerrard

From E
Have your say on 606

The Tottenham striker made a poor contact with a low cross from Gerrard, though his strike nonetheless was well placed and forced a decent save from Sorensen.

Rooney had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Per Nielsen, while the 19-year-old should have been awarded a penalty after he was held back by Christian Poulsen but the infringement went unnoticed.

Eriksson made four substitutions at the break, including the introduction of Owen for Defoe - but the England coach's plans soon lay in tatters.

James tried to cut out a raking cross-field pass but intended target Tomasson kept his calm to elude the keeper before crossing from the byeline for Rommedahl to tap home.

The compliment was soon returned as Claus Jensen's cross was half-cleared to Rommedahl, who headed the ball for Tomasson to convert from three yards.

England's misery was compounded when Gravgaard met a header and the ball went into the England net, seemingly taking a deflected off Gerrard on the way.

It might have got worse but Poulsen headed straight at James when well placed before Rooney scored a consolation with a tidy right-foot finish after connecting with a through ball.

But the goals had not finished, with Larsen out-stretching Rio Ferdinand before poking the ball past the beleaguered James.

About that Denmark-defeat...England is really lacking on top goalkeepers as they have to have David James guarding their nets...the guy is gifted, and has always been very skillful, but I've always felt he's too passive and lazy...goalkeepers need to be brave, aggressive leaders.

Chelsea sure looks grate on this year Premier League again...it's interesting to see if Tottenham, that has had a grate start, can challenge the top teams...I believe the champioship will be sorted out between Chelsea and Man U, while Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal try to grab the third place...

As a fun of Sunderland I'm hoping they manage to turn things around and stay up...Mick McCarthy is a top manager and a good guy...it is possible, but they have to get their first win soon.

As for other teams, I believe Portsmouth, Wigan, Fulham and West Bromwich are on the bottom, along with Sunderland.

Manchester City - a lot of experts have said City will finish on the bottom but I like their defense and Andy Cole+Darius Vassell are gonna score enough goals to lift them up to the mid-table...Stuart Pearce shows no mercy and his players will fight for him.

Apart from Scotland winning, the £200 million England team being beaten by a bunch of third rate pseudo Irish who went 9 games without even scoring a goal until recently was pretty damn funny!:D

What is the population that they can draw the NI team from?

1.5 million minus most of the catholics so maybe 800 000?

Only downside was I was in the pub and missed that fucking twat Ian Wright's reaction...:)

Why do they have to lose to N Ireland?

Actually I was hoping they would lose to N Ireland. I hope they don't get qualified
