Any here's the gear, homemade Palm Bay guitar (DiMarzio Tone Zone, Seymour Duncan 55 Strat, Dimarzio PafPRO), Soldano Decatone, Marshall Orange Crunch 4x12 and a few assorted pedals.

OOH!

Lets get a shot of that!

My battery powered amp has a builtin Bradshaw type switching thing like that so I'm into ideas like these..

Mr Grimsdale

here it is

it's nothing special, it just connects to the amp via a midi cable

Is that an Arion pedal I see amongst the Boss and the lone MXR pedals?

Mr Grimsdale
05-05-2005, 05:59 PM
er... ok ok
i have that 1 arion pedal, it's crap

so fookin' crap it's actually cool, i mean it makes a great swooshing noise without me even playing a note and with a little tweaking i can get my guitar to sound like steel drums!

everyone will want one now!

I've got an Arion Stereo Flanger, that I bought years ago. It's a bit noisey, but it can get a half assed decent chorus effect. It also has a cool stereo switch on it, and even when the flanger isn't engaged it does add separation when using two amps. It's just a toy to play with.

For real flanging I use an MXR.

I have one of those late-80s MXR flangers from the production daze where they used enclosures of plasticrap: given to me by a guy I did some techwork for.

The circuit board developed some cold solder-joints (meaning, some tracings or components on the PC board popped or cracked loose unconnected). Guy thought it didn't work.

I take the bottom plate off and get into it, touching around and I found this spot where grounding a few traces out with my body as a ground, the thing belched out this combination low-speed/high-low frequency wooshing engine noise, but with a strange sinusoidial tone to it.

That Arion reminds me of the MXR job. I'll dig it out sometime when its Pictures day.

Obviously, Mr Grimsdale's carpets do not match the drapes - ask his stylist.

Hey Grims, what's the advantage to having an Orange Crush as compared to your standard Marshall 4x12? Is it packing something other than Celestions?

Mr Grimsdale

a UK marketing label

I haven't seen one like it over here, but you can get tolex in many colors from mojotone, partsisparts and some other sites

Mr Grimsdale

i was toying with the idea of having it covered in leopard skin tolex

damn, i'm classy

- m'mate's rigs done up in white faux snakehydes!

I like the orange tho, if you're gonna retolex, its best to buy a used thrasher because they're usually half-peeled by then and could use a reskinnin'.

Orange is a rare tolex cover over here; in fact the only time I've ever seen orange or the even rarer, lemon-yellow, was on a set of head dummys built by the Marshall factory for the 90-92 David Lee Roth tour. They had no chassis in them, just the brushed-steel gold front chassis panel backed with potentiometers holding the knobs to the panel. AmpCrazy in Hollywood bought like 20 Marshall cabs and about 30 head cases like that. Mostly black like that, but about a doz of them in multiple colors.

I wanted that yellow one to stick the chassis of my 74 Superlead into, but when I finally had the $300 asking price Jake E. Lee nabbed it, or so I was told.

Jerry Blaha, he's still doing repairs now from his home as ampcrazy.com He was my ampguy from 86 to 99!

AH

http://www.ampcrazy.com/web/wah.html

He's still offering that wahwah mod I love so much.. he did mine in 88 with a selectable 30% AND a 50% boost, a selectable pre-set pot on the side, and mechanical cleaning, lubing and pot adjustment for most treble.. I guess from what he told me to do this you have to loosen the pot nut, rotate it with the pinion arm fully forward, then rotate the pot to absolute travel before retightening the nut.

Jerry Blaha is the ampgod of all time.. because he was one of the first and because he still does the mundane repairs like power amps and cabinets.

That guy charges 80 bucks for a true bypass mod...seems a bit steep.

GAR
05-17-2005, 04:42 PM
His fee includes the whole cleaning and adjustment which I recommend, as I mentioned he makes 'em play better and I haven't seen any tech anywhere who's so specialized in this.
