Is there a Van Halen song where every member is at their
absolute peak.. You know, theres obvious examples of
individuals peaking, like Alex's intro to Hot For Teacher.
But which song do you feel has them all at their very best ??

Hmmmmmm.....

i got to go with Hot fot Teacher, The intro displays some kick ass drumming by Alex, The guitar intro and solo is some of Eddies best playing ever. The thumping VH boogie bass line is some of Mikes best bass work and of course the vocals, the fun, the humour, the creative effect its all classic DIAMOND DAVE.

That roth soldiers is my pick for tune that best displays everyones talent!!!

THE WHOLE FUCKIN MIGHTY SIX PACK...all the albums and songs were good, even his worst songs were better than Van Hagar.

Very tough one, agreed. Kinda like asking which CVH song is my all-time fave, and even that has shifted so many times...

....Hot For Teacher would be a pretty good choice in terms of musical technique displayed, agreed.

....Hear About It Later is a good choice, too...

See, far as AVH goes, the best sound he ever got to my ears was on 1984, but his best performances were on Fair Warning. Same goes for Mike...

Think instead of naming a tune, I'm just gonna say that the Fair Warning had each member of the group at their very best, individually and as a unit.

If I had to pick...I would say the songs that personified VH were the ones done between 1978 and 1984...

I'll say 'Dirty Movies'.

That song has all of them at their peak. This is Hot For Teacher before there was a Hot For Teacher.

Yeah, "Dirty Movies" immediately jumped into my mind as well...One of my favorite CVH tunes ever.

As usual, DLR steals the show with his hilarious ad-libs and commentary...:D Made me feel like I was actually in a porn theater sitting a few rows in front of him!

I'd have to go with "Me Wise Magic".....it sounds exactly what I would think a "mature" CVH should sound like. Every member of the band sounds like they are at the top of their game.

Of course, I was so hyped up for that song that by the time it came out, it could have been absolute crap and I still would have gone nuts for it.

Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love had grate guitar work and Dave delivers a fine vocal performance too. Mike's backing vocals aren't half bad either. Dunno if it's them at their peak, but they're all pretty solid there.

Cheers! :bottle:

There are so many great songs....but if I had one that they all rock out like crazy, I'd say The Full Bug. It's not VH's greatest tune, but it's up there.

I say Mean Street.

Great guitar intro
Better than Alex...I mean average drums.
Heavy bass line.
And David Lee Roth sings it with attitude.

I would give almost the same review to Romeo Delight..except for the intro.

Al was on when he had all of his little toys helping him

ie: speed peddles. And nobody plays one note over and over like

bass player smurf.

Daves best days are still to come.....if Ed ever pulls his head out of Wolfgangs crotch.....every bird thinks that its feather is blacker than the next....get over it Ed. you should deem it an honor that Valerie ever let you near her....

His scream in the song is at his finest...although, I'm on Fire, is a good wail too. But Unchained is bar far the most explosive of the whole band, I think!

How 'bout "House of Pain"? That's pretty fucking cool!

SoldMySoul4RnR
06-05-2005, 07:43 AM
The orginal version of House of Pain on "Zero" was better, everyone in the band is smokin' on that version. And Dave sings the absolute shit out of it. LOVE the scream!!

I'll say 'Hear About it Later'.

Some of Dave's best lyrics ever!

One of the most unique riffs and playing my Edward ever! To this day, no other guitar player has captured that kind of playing in a song.

Alex is great here too.

Mike keeps the bottom end going -- some cool bass playing in the middle of the song.
