1984 wins for me.............the entire album was great HFT , Panama and Jump alone make this one kick ass album.

Diver Down has its moments as well though just not as many as 84 has.

Love 'em both...but I gotta go with 1984. It's just got more of my favourite tunes on it & it's all original material. But I just wish they threw a couple more songs on, and not re-written House of Pain. Other than that, the album is primo, it sums up everything that is fun about rock music.

to me diver down has 2 good songs. secrets and little guitars.

1984 is a bit overproduced compared to 1 and 2...i really like VH2.

kinda like the leftovers that didnt make it to VH1 but some good ass shit...

i dig 84 over DD anyway...

1984
It has Drop Dead Legs, my favorite VH song (at least it's my favorite for now).

They're both good but I'd take 1984. Better sound and "Hot for Teacher" turned progressive music on its ear. Got it bad....:bananna:

I'd votes fo' Diver Down quicker 'en you can say IWANNATHANKYOUFORLETTINMEBEMYSELFGAIN...'84 has 1984 and I'll Wait--two jivey keyboard tunes...Well, I'm tore down, I'll almost level with the groun'...standin' on shakey groun'...

I'll go for Diver Down because it has "Little Guitars"
The whole album just sounds better...
And has a cool vibe to it.

1984 hands down. Come on Hot For Teacher and Drop Dead Legs. How can you beat those 2? Diver Down was good but had too many covers IMO.

Right on. Secrets, Big Bad Bill, and Happy Trails couldn't break the 1984 lineup. They're good but not good enough.

1984 by a bare margin.

Hot For Teacha and Panama are like a time machine that transports me back to the days when spandex was considered a fashion statement...:D

Is this really a question? It's got to be 1984. Diver Down was the worst record VH ever recorded, yes even worse than any of the Hagar albums and VHIII.

Diver Down had cover songs they learned before they were even signed. They had some aversion to studios that year. Only good songs on Diver Down... Where have all.. Hang 'em High.. The Full Bug.. Those were worth the price though..

I agree, I did like them but I just don't like too many cover songs. If you want to do one on an album or every other album, that's fine. But several on one album is just too many FOR ME.

1984 is CLASSIC. So is DIVER DOWN. DD is BRILLIANT.

Little guitars alone puts DD on top. I definately like it better than 1984.

Pft, 1984, hands down, end of topic.
What kind of stupid ass question is that?
You're asking if one of the best VH albulms is better than one of their worse?

1984 was awesome, and actually featured a lot of original, kick ass material.

Diver down was going to end up being a cover ep, if it wasn't for the fact that for about 3 tracks, Ed and DAve got off their lazy, uninspired asses to write some damn original material.

Now granted, I liked diver down...but 1984 was so much better.

For me that will be 1984. It's the first VH I bought and I still remember the chills when I first played it...

Since then, I still go up and down each time I hear "Jump" and bang on everything I find when I hear "Hot for teacher". I used to listen to this one every morning before school. Just to get in the right mood.

So that's definitely 1984, but DD has one of my 5 CVH favorites and that is "The full bug". Great song.

Diver Down is the most underated VH album ever.
Having said that, 1984 for me.

Hmmmmm....

At the moment DIVER DOWN. Kinda burnt on 1984.

Both STELLAR.

One was made in weeks, under pressure from the record company...the other took a year, and broke up the band.

Underrated my ass. It sold over 2 million...(i.e. Double Platinum)It was CLEARLY well appreciated. The reason why it didn't sell as good as the other albulms was for the fact that it lacked enough original material to merrit the large sums of sales that other cvh albulms had.

And...yet it sold more than FAIR WARNING...which had ALL original material.

Which is a travesty. Which would then make Diver down...Overrated?

Anyway, I stand by the whold underated thing being a load.
DLR Band, is an underrated albulm, not even reaching gold status, and being one of daves better solo efforts.

IMO, anything that goes past platinum was well recieved and well liked either by the genre community or mainstream in general.

I don't think there was any VH material that was underrated in anyway, espesially when you talk about the cvh catalog.

It's under-rated by EVH...and a "certain" section of his fanbase. All the bitchin' EVH has done over the years has obscured the fact that it was well received when it was released.
And that it was recorded under extreme pressure from Warner Bros..........at a time when THE BAND was at a creative low point. Yet, they managed to put out a diverse and interesting work.

I'd take 1984 over Diver Down. Both are killer, but the covers filled album just doesn't cut it like the all original '84.

Diver Down. 1984 just wasn't really "great" for me when it came out. The synth's were really a downer for me at the time as it indicated a softer direction musically. Panama, HTF and Girl Gone Bad are great tunes though. Where have All the Good Times Gone, Hang Em High, Full Bug, Intruder and Little Guitars rock harder than the non-mentioned cuts off 1984.

As a complete album I would say 1984.

This is at tough one because two of my favorite tunes are on DD and those are the Full Bug and Little Guitars. I think the rest of the tunes are good, but not FANTASTIC.

And although two of my least favorite tunes are on 1984 which are Jump and I'll Wait, I think the rest of the tunes are excellent.

I love ALL the classic VH stuff...BUT I will say this. I love 1984. Girl gone Bad is one of my favorite songs of all times. Diver Down, although a good listen..seemed rushed to me. Too many cover songs. I love Hang em high/The full bug, ect. But 1984 brings me back to the summer it ruled the airwaves. I remember going on vacation with my family and hearing Jump by the pool. Ultimate summer song to me. Eiether way ...I love em both!!!!
