Well...I've grown to like Hopkins over the years...he is a great champion...

He's fighting his last middleweight belt...win or lose in July against Jermain Taylor. He's already locked into a light heavy fight against the winner of Tarver/Glen Johnson...on June 18...

that would be fight #2...

then after that...win or lose...he wants to fight Jones...to avenge the last person to beat him...and bring in a ton of fucking money...

I hope Hopkins wins out...and I hope Jones wakes the fuck up...

Hopkins wants to fight Roy Jones in final bout

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) - Middleweight champ Bernard Hopkins said Friday he wants to fight three more times, including once against the last man to beat him, before he retires in January.

The 40-year-old Hopkins (46-2-1, 32 KOs) defends his title against undefeated Jermain Taylor in Las Vegas on July 16 - a fight Hopkins said will be his last as a middleweight, win or lose.
He plans to move up to light heavyweight and face the winner of the Antonio Tarver-Glen Johnson fight scheduled for June 18.

Hopkins would like to end his career with a fight against Roy Jones Jr., who beat Hopkins by unanimous decision in May 1993 when they fought for the vacant IBF middleweight title.

"A Roy Jones Jr.-Bernard Hopkins fight for the grand finale," Hopkins said. "It's the 12-year anniversary since 1993 that we've been in the ring together."

Hopkins had wanted to fight Felix Trinidad, but Trinidad was soundly defeated last month by Winky Wright, leaving Hopkins with little motivation to fight him.

"Let Roy rest up," Hopkins said. "We'll do it at 175 pounds. Roy doesn't have to kill himself to come down."

Hopkins made the announcement at his final workout before heading to Miami to complete his training for his bout against Taylor (23-0, 17 KOs).

Hopkins has successfully defended his title 20 times in the last decade, including a September 2004 knockout of an overmatched Oscar De La Hoya in the ninth round.

"It's the only fight out there that makes sense," Hopkins said of a rematch with Jones. "I think it makes more sense than me and Winky Wright."

Hopkins said he wanted to challenge himself by moving up to light heavyweight for his last two bouts - fights in which he figures he would be the underdog.

"I'm venturing back into dangerous waters where I'm not really comfortable," Hopkins said.

Hopkins on Friday also announced the creation of an East Coast division of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, with Hopkins as its president.

Golden Boy East has a multi-event agreement with the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City and will host its first event on Aug. 4, featuring Hopkins' nephew, Demetrius Hopkins in the main event. The rest of the card will be announced later.

Interesting...and shows you how shrewd De La Hoya is outside of the ring...

putting Hopkins in charge of his East Coast Operations...

Golden Boy East...

Damn...Hopkins has controlled the middleweights for 10 years...imfuckingpressive...

and he has no interest in fighting Winky Wright...interesting...

People seemed to forget...that Roy Jones Jr. toyed with just about everyone he fought...and still kicked all their asses...

his only loss was after knocking the guy down...tagging him while he was down...

until his 2 last fights...which I don't think he gave a fuck about...

Hopkins knows that to legitimize his career to some...he needs to beat the only contemporary he didn't beat...

I can't wait for Hopkins to fire and sue himself for not promoting himself properly and cheating himself out of money.

It wasn't promotion that was the problem...nobody wanted to fight him...

look at Jones Jr. Nobody promoted themselves more than he did...but it didn't do him any good until late in his career...and trust me...right now...there isn't a fucking Middle right now making more clams than Hopkins...

Just like Hagler...put the fight first...the guy is much like Hagler...

My point is that Hopkins seems to get into lawsuits with everyone that does business with him, including promoter Lou DIBElla, trainer Bouie Fisher, and a new one is about to start involving him & King. I have also read that he is unhappy with Golden Boy promotions and the current set-up.

As far as people not wanting to fight him, his problem has been getting people to pay him for a fight what he thought was a fair price & he has a history of turning down big fights (especially prior to the Trinidad fight).

Regarding the possibility of a Jones fight, I don't think he should go near a ring again. He was destroyed in his last 2 fights and the KO in his last fight was especially brutal. He was very lucky not to have been seriously hurt when his head hit the canvas. Jones has nothing to prove, he already beat Hopkins.

Jones Jr. is to the point now where he cannot ... cannot .... take power shots flush anymore and shake them off. He would have to fight Hopkins much like Ruiz, moving constantly.

Hopkins is patient also, could be a great fight, could be a big bore.

True dat. Jones doesn't have any business fighting now. He'll wind up in Ali's or Hearns' shoes..or worse. His best move is to stay out while he still has his senses and do the HBO thing. Not like he should have anything to proove. He'll always be known as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of this era and rightly so.

As for moving constantly to keep out of range, I'm sure that'd be a lot harder against Hopkins than it was with Ruiz.
