Read the list.

See what THEY have to say about Jaco.

You too will become enamoured with the brilliance of his mastery of 4 strings!

He was to the bass what Hendrix was to the 6 string.

McCartney's timing and some of the notes he plays...he's a tricky fucker. I think he gets a better nod as a songwriter though.

Now, The Ox...I plumb forgot about him. I don't know how either.

I gotta add Cliff Burton too!

Gotta go with Entwistle.

I'll throw John Deacon out there. Not literally of course, I don't know his whereabouts. Even IF I knew his whereabouts, it wouldn't be very polite to throw the guy out there. I'd just tell him him I'm a big fan and respect his personal space.

That'd be some funny shit if someone grabbed him and threw him somewhere though.

Cliff Burton was dead when that album came out.

DLR7884
So he didn't play bass on it.

Redballjets88, I tell you why I ain't gonna mention Billy Dheehan for his tapping-bass style, because he copied it from the great STANLEY CLARKE, Now, Stanley Clarke, there's a good bass player.

Also, nobody has said LEMMY yet, he invented a new way of playing the bass.

Me, closely followed by Jaco Pastorius.

:)

Seriously, I can't believe there's even any debate. Fucking Jaco DESTROYS everybody. Past, present...future.

Jaco was, IS, and always will be the planet's GREATEST bassist to ever walk it's surface.

Period.

Pfff, you're all wrong! JOEY DEFUCKIN'MAIO IS THE MAN! Has anyone of you ever listened to the man play 'Sting of the Bumble Bee' and 'The Desecration of Hector's Body' in Kings of Metal and Triumph of Steel respectively or 'William Tell's Overture (William's Tale)' live?

I'd love to see any of those puny bassists you mentioned try to pull that off!

Cheers! :bottle:

Have you heard Jaco? If not, I'd seriously suggest picking some up...there's absolutely NOTHING that can be done on a bass today that he didn't do first.

And yes, I'm very familiar with Joey DeMaio. Joey's very impressive, for sure, but Jaco is just unreal.

Has anyone thrown up Les Claypool and/or Bootsy Collins yet? If not, here's a nod in their general directions...

another brilliant bassist - Anthony Jackson!

Jérôme Frenchise
06-12-2005, 03:13 PM
John Entwistle (my favorite, the Lord of the IV Strings)
Jack Bruce (the heaviest)
John Paul Jones (the most discreet wizard)
Prakash John (the first bassist who draw my attention, on Rock 'n' roll animal)
John Wetton (my second favorite)
Tom Hamilton (the most grooving)
Billy Sheehan (the second most impressive)
Jaco Pastorius (the most impressive)

he's the most skilled bass player, I've heard

he played for Greg Howe once.

is he a touchstyle player?

nosuchluck
06-14-2005, 03:35 PM
he does play touch style once in a while - his cover of Norwegian Wood has got some brilliant touch style playing.

he's more famous for his take on the Slap-Pop technique.

and yeah, that album with Greg Howe and Dennis Chambers is absolutely smokin'!

speaking of slap-pop, no one's mentioned the guy who invented it - Larry Graham!
