This album fucking rocks, plain and simple.

I just put it in, I'm only on Counter-Blast and I can say without a doubt that this is Dave's best solo effort.

Yes this is a repeat/old topic, but I have read that numerous posters here don't have or have never heard this album.

GO FUCKING GET IT!

Ebay, amazon.....I don't care how. Get your hands on this fucking masterpiece, NOW.

DLR7884
That's all. :D

Had to pause it to take a piss....

On "Little Texas" now, it rocks.

DLR7884
Can't wait to get to "Going Places."

Rikk

LITTLE TEXAS is my favorite Dave solo song of all time.

I like this album very much...but...I still like ALAE better...

Rikk
06-18-2005, 01:21 AM
ALAE has better written songs overall. But I like DLR BAND more because it's got a rougher production, which works well for me. That said, there is a bit too much filler on DLR BAND...could have made for a perfect 10 song album.

I should dig up my old RE-VISITED review of this sucker...

POJO_Risin

It's Showtime is my bar none...favorite Roth song of all time...minus a couple from the VH years...

of course...this doesn't belong here...but wtf...

It's Showtime is pure Roth.

DLR7884
Do we all agree that EEAS, ALAE, and DLRBand are the 3 best solo efforts?

Rikk

Um...you and POJ may smack me on the head for this, but I prefer SKYSCRAPER to ALAE, now that I think about it. I just have a soft spot for SKYSCRAPER. And DAMN GOOD just gets me every time.

...and yes, SHOWTIME is fucking awesome. But I still prefer LITTLE TEXAS.

DLR7884
06-18-2005, 01:44 AM
Skyscraper?

Really?

Too synthy if you ask me....good album, solid. But ALAE is rock, no fluff.

DLR7884
I think Skyscraper, I think "Stand Up."

skills, the kind that thrill...

pretty much sums it up.

ALAE was the end of an era.
The cover art pretty much sums that up.

DLR7884
06-18-2005, 01:59 AM
Yeah, listen to it.....for the rest of the weekend.

DLR7884
Do you have DLR Band?

Yeah. You can't buy that SHAUN CASSIDY album before you buy DLRBAND.

POJO_Risin
06-18-2005, 02:43 AM
Goto a store that sells used discs...I bet you can find it for under 5 bucks somewhere...it'll be in the used bin...I guarantee it...

as for ALAE...it is my belief that the next great guitar player was Jason Becker (www.jasonbecker.com). He had the ability to do Ed...and Vai...and add his own twists in a bluesy way...

and he could write...still can for that matter...

check out his link...

Jason Becker is the man...and Dave found his NEXT great virtuoso...and that album proves it.

Listen to it...focus on the guitar...and you'll see what I mean...

you'll swear you hear Ed...you'll swear you here Vai...but it will be slightly different...slightly NOT them...and you'll realize how good Jason Becker was/is...

DLR7884
06-18-2005, 02:45 AM
The Jason Becker story still is a heart breaker.

Last update I read, he's been in the same condition since 1997.

DLR7884
But he has defied the odds and survived almost 15 years w/ALS.

POJO_Risin
06-18-2005, 02:52 AM
Yeah...which is amazing to be honest...that he hasn't gotten worse...

I suspect things aren't going well...

but you've gotta love the fact that the guy is as active as he is...

there are rumors about a movie about his life...I'm hoping that's the case...

15 years with the disease...closing in on half his life...

Rikk
06-18-2005, 03:13 AM
It'll catch up with him eventually. Even if the disease doesn't progress, the kind of health damage that occurs from paralysis alone is pretty significant. Fucking tragic. In Dave's book, you can tell how much Jason's story broke him up. Dave talks about Jason with a lot of pride and a lot of caring.

That said, that's one of my big criticisms of ALAE...Jason isn't really a full writing partner and only writes IT'S SHOWTIME and DROP IN THE BUCKET.

I'm still not cool with the fact that EVH has visited Jason and DLR hasn't.

DLR7884
What writing credits are you looking at, btw?

Is Robbie Nevil the one with the thing on his face?

DLR7884
Or is that Aaron?

Rikk
06-18-2005, 03:27 AM
Yeah. Both songs co-written with Jason are at the end of the album...the album's best song is second-last. Meanwhile, there's a ton of shit written with the keyboardist, etc. A bit of a waste.

Which thing on the face?

DLR7884
06-18-2005, 03:28 AM
One of the Nevil brothers has a ginormous fucking birthmark or mole on his face.

DLR7884
I think it's Aaron.....anyone know for sure?

POJO_Risin
06-18-2005, 03:33 AM
I don't know that I'd have made Becker a full collaborator at that point either...although I'm sure the next album would have been different...

I wish he'd have gotten to tour for that album...

Oh...and it's

Evil K Nevile that has the mole...isn't he a brother?

Can't get it in this country, so I got it from e-bay not long ago.

I'm convinced that DLR BAND could have been a VH album.

In fact, I suspect that was the idea, after the reunion fiasco and all.

I am on a huge DLR kick lately. For DLR solo... you cannot F with Elephant Gun. From DLR Band: Relentless, Wawazat, King of the Hill, Going Places, and, somebody back me up on this... Black Sand. Anyone? Ånyone? Top 3 DLR albums: EEAS, DLR Band, Skyscraper... although I have nothing against ANY other albums. Dave F-ing Rules... Eddie is a woman. Alex is a transsexual.

Mezro

I'll take DLR Band and ALAE over EEAS.

Mezro...oh and fuck Skyscraper...thank you very much...

It's fucking ludicrous that you have 1500 posts here and haven't bought the best album Roth has done in nearly 20 years.

Jesus sufferin' cunt I had to pay $35 for my copy at the time on import before the days of the interweb.

In any case you can buy it used from Amazon for $5 for fuck sake!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/offer-listing/B000007O7F/qid=1120180578/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_ur_1a//104-1362287-8105567?condition=all

Get a fucking grip. You can run a car but won't buy an album?

Kids today, I dunno...

Cheers!

Only "Slam Dunk" was played live off of that album....it was played in some of the early shows during the 1999 Summer Tour.

I know it was played in Finland and Washington D.C.
