The wave of the future.....let us just return to the past...

Gladiatorial Combat To The Death!!!

We set up a deal with some corrupt 3rd-world country, set up a pay-per-view event and give the local dictator a small piece of the pie....

Terms of the fight are:

"Two men enter, one man leave".

Give the loser's family or next of kin a payout of a million or two simply for giving his life for the almighty entertainment value....

And of course give the winner something massive like 100 million dollars...

Or instead of paying the winner a huge sum of money, just clean out all the death row inmates from the U.S. Prison system. Have them choose between certain death in The Chair, or give them an alternative...if they lose in the arena, they will have had their sentence carried out in a rather bizarre and public fashion....if they win, commute their sentence to something like a life sentence with all the free drugs they can handle....that way you hopefully get them hooked on heroin, and they die anyway....and you make meelions of dollars without having to really pay the convicts anything at all!!!

Of course then you could just advertise that anyone who wants to get in the competition will be allowed, and have reality shows where the gladiator wannabees have to prove they are worthy to go into the ring.......

And then you could come up with interesting variations on it like 2 men vs. a half-starved male lion, etc.

Just do the modern day Gladiatorial Games.

I read a sci-fi novel about 30 years ago, where all the countries of the world abolished war entirely. To resolve their differences, they had this huge arena built with force fields around it, and the floor of the arena was about a half mile long and a quarter mile wide, with vegetation, water hazards, trees, etc.

Then, each country would send a team of 10 guys into the arena to battle it out. The winning country was the one with only one survivor.

If more than one guy from one team survived, they had to fight to the death. So the rule in this case was:

"20 men enter, one man leave".

And the gist of the novel was that the sole survivor of the conflict was exempt from ALL LAWS on Earth. He could walk down the street, and murder people left and right if he wished. And anyone attempting to kill him would be put to death by the authorities.....

So anyway the book was the story of one such guy...I don't remember the name, but it kinda blew my mind....
