Most everyone knows it's a rework. An oldie but a baddie?

Why there? Why then?

Fuckers play Beatles albums backwards, so we may as well disect the lyrics to this one.

This is a personal fave:
"If I had it all to do I'd do it just the same."

Bondage, insane chick....blah-blah...it's CRYPTIC I tell ya!

Say you're gonna leave me cause I only tie you up.
Always love you tender but you only like it rough.
why you're leaving me again.

Gonna pack your bags and leave this house of pain.

Heartaches all around me, how many times we cried.
Said she tried to leave me but her hands were always tied.
If I had it all to do I'd do it just the same.

Gonna fix it so you never leave this house of pain

Don't know WHY they chose to dust it off, but am glad they did. By far one of my favorite tracks on the album.

House of Pain is the best.
I don't understand why they rewrote it but I love both versions.

Those 2 notes at the end of the solo on the 84 version give me the fuckin chills every time.

I know dude! That solo is my personal favorite VH Solo... I have no idea why, but it is. It's... GREAT! Suits the song perfectly, and it's a perfect transition too.

I think HOP on 1984 is one of MANY VH mistakes over the years. The original HOP kicked major ass and didn't need to be changed at all.

I pray we get a full rare vault type album from CVH soon. (at the very least) Id love to own clean digital copies of HOP (demo), Big Trouble, Put out the Light, She's the Woman, Woman in Love and the ZZ Top classic, Beer Drinkers/ Hellraisers.

I guess dave is into some "heavier" things like bondage. he wants a huckleberry finn on his gravestone with some handcuffs...and the "newton-pic" gives us some hints, too... ;)

Yeah, that's right.

This song made the cut because of Alex's insistence.

I agree with BT here...

I like the tune...but Love the original...

I'd hope for a vault album from CVH...but fear spED will eventually put out shit from across both lead singers if he ever does it...which I doubt...

I'm not going to spend 50 bucks when half of it is fucking crap from Bette...

The only reason they dusted this off I bet is cuz they couldn't work together anymore....

One or all of em (minus the bass player) probably couldn't agree on how to put a song together....

Alex won the vote on which oldie gets on the already short album.

What is it? About 40 minutes without 1984 on it?

Also, I like the new version.
It humps your rope. :D

Granted, it's alot slicker, but that guitar is bad ass and Dave sounds right on the money.

Aint that the truth !

I Love HOP on 1984. The last classic Van Halen song on the
last classic Van Halen album. How could you not like it ?
Reworked or otherwise ??

Hey... Im just happy someone agrees with me. :D

There was nothing wrong, NOTHING, with the original HOP, and if it aint broke....

I do like the 1984 version, but the original was off the wall fucking great. Hard to play to as well.

I always thought the second line was "I want to love you tender but you only like it rough". Which is pretty funny, actually.

I thought it was was an unsuspectingly good way to end the final true VH album: go back to the beginning to find your conclusion. Sort of like The Beatles dusting off a bunch of their early songwriting attempts on Let It Be.

(BTW, I happen to like and prefer how polished the '84 version is...but DEFINITELY hope to see the original on a boxed set)

Say you're gonna leave me
'Cause I only tie you up
I always loved you tender
But you only like it rough
Woman bound for glory
Why you leavin' me again?

Gonna pack her bags and leave
This house of pain

Heartache's all around me
How many times we've tried
Said she tried to leave me
But her hands were always tied
If I had it all to do
I'd keep it just the same

Gonna fix it so you never leave
