Slade were very big in the UK (and Europe in general) in the 1970's. They are best known for their 1974 Christmas hit "Merry Xmas Everybody" ("So, here it is merry christmas, everybody's havin' fun, look to the future, now, it's only just beguuuuuuuuun", actually, the song itself is famous for one bit in particular, when Noddy shouts "Ittttttttttt'sssssssss Chriiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssttttttttttmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaa aaaaaassssss!!!!) and their appaling spelling (Coz I Luv You, Cum On Feel The Noize, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me, Tak Me Bak Home, see what I mean?).

You can actually get Slade compilations quite cheap in the UK.

Their popularity in the 70s was such that they even made a film called 'Slade In Flame', but as the 70's drew to a close, their popularity was decreasing.

Their popularity was resurrected when they played the Reading festival in 1980. By this time they were seen as old hat, but played a blinder at the festival, upstaging young acts like Def Leppard and Iron Maiden.

Today, half of the original band tour in Slade II, but their is one person missing who MADE the Slade sound. Frontman Noddy Holder is now an actor, DJ, and is in those Nobbies Nuts adverts ("Nobby's Nuts, not Noddy's Nuts").
