Just for the record...

This exact time last year...and the exact time of the bombings...I was in London with my brother. We went to every one of those subways every day.

Gosh, I'm glad we weren't there this year.

Bombs: 7 (6 on tubes, 1 on a bus)

About 9am this morning, bombs went off on a couple of tubes and on a bus. It was initially thought to be a power surge on the trainline, but as people emerged from the subway and reports came in, it was clear what happened. The whole of the underground has been shut for today, and buses have been cancelled all day too. Most lines are expected to be open tomorrow, as they are not all connected and so are not affected, however some may be up to a week in returning to service. Tony Blair left the G8 meeting to return to London, returning about an hour ago to continue the meeting.

A message appeared on a website, apparently from an Al Queda (or however it's spelt) group, taking credit for the events. Whether this has been confirmed yet , I don't know. There was no warning or indication of the attacks.

I disagree with you there Panamark. We all knew we we're going to be a target, and London the most likely destination, but where, what, when and how we didn't and couldn't know. As it happened on the tubes and bus, there was no way of detecting any threats. You can't check every single person getting on and off those things every day. It would be impossible. There was nothing we could have done to prevent that.

I have to say, we we're pretty lucky. There was a very small number of casulties compared to other bombings.

I find it very Ironic that this attack happened the day after London was announced to be hosting the 2012 Olympics.

Another thing, if they wanted to kill a shitload of people, why didn't they plant one at Hyde Park on Saturday? Is this a diversion whilst they plan something bigger?
