View Full Version : 28 Games and counting...Damon is halfway to 56...

Only halfway...but it seems to be an interesting guy going after a hit streak...

Damon is a scrappy player...a hustler...a guy who could get a run at a long-term hit streak...

I think 56 is out of reach...but fuck...28 is a long streak...longest in awhile...

Warham

Longest in Red Sox history since Nomar.

You know...it's early...but wouldn't it be funny if Damon could continue this thing...

how would Yankee fans feel if Damon made a run at their God Dimaggio...

Not a good enough hitter.

No way he even sniffs 40 games.

Warham
07-16-2005, 04:12 PM
I dunno. He's almost at 30. I would imagine 99% of big league players in history have never sniffed that number.

Pete Rose was a lifetime .303 hitter and had a 44 game streak once. It's possible.

56 is UNTOUCHABLE...

POJO_Risin
07-16-2005, 04:32 PM
I really don't think 56 is untouchable...although noone has been within 20 of it...and I think...what...only 2 guys have been within' 12?

Molitor and Rose both had 44 right?

I can't remember how many Molitor had in a row...but I think it's less than 44...but not much...

Damon is the kind of guy that could do it...

I think you underrate him as a hitter Al...in particular...this year...

Warham
07-16-2005, 05:04 PM
He's only hitting .345 this year, Pojo. Let's not give him too much credit now.

:D

I really doubt it, IMHO...

Once/if he hits 30, the media pressure gets pretty intense....

Rose's streak was insane in terms of media coverage....

BTW Poj, Molitor's streak was 39, in '87.....

Here's some tidbits to show how great a hitter Dimaggio was....

His 56 game streak in '41 wasn't even his personal longest, he hit in 61 straight in '33 in the Minors...

After his 56 game streak ended in '41, he hit in 16 more consecutive games.....

72 out of 73 games, not bad.... ;)

POJO_Risin
07-16-2005, 08:37 PM
I think most of us doubt it...just worthy of mention...because in general...we don't even get streaks THIS long...

Nobody is comparing Damon to fucking Dimaggio here...

I was just speculating...lmfao...

POJO_Risin
07-16-2005, 08:38 PM
There aren't even that many that got to 30...

Warham
07-16-2005, 08:50 PM
Nope, except that rookie phenom Jerome Walton had a 30 game hitting streak for the Cubs in '89. He promptly faded away into oblivion after that year.

Be glad you didn't, if my old man ever got whiff of it, he'd hunt you down.... ;)

Probably wouldn't kill you once he found out you're an Westside Erieite....;)

Oh, I'm sure Dom Dimaggio wouldn't be too offended.

Dom Dimaggio was no door knob either....

Nearly a lifetime .300 hitter....

He had a 34 game hitting streak. No slouch for sure. ;) One of Teddy Ballgame's best friends.

Is Benito Santiago still playing? He had a 34 game hitting streak in '87.

Only six players in history have a streak of over 40 games...

Dimaggio 56
Keeler 44
Rose 44
Dahlen 42
Sisler 41
Cobb 40

Did anyone notice the streak started right after he shaved the beard?

Yeah, but (and I think this is part of what Pojo is getting at) Damon is could be just enough of a self-proclaimed idiot to not let the media pressure get to him.

I think he might even like it...he has said that he wants to be a movie star after he's done with baseball...

Im going tomorrow...im sure he will go 0-5 just for me.

Look for the dude in the yellow shirt and hat selling the diet coke...

I'd love to see this go for a bit...

didn't Santiago's streak end at the end of the year?

Or maybe that was Alomar...I can't remember...but I know it was someone's recent streak...

Damon's got a bad shoulder and has been getting mostly a lot of bloop or infield hits. He actually had some power last year(20 HR) when he was healthy. Without much power, I don't know how much longer the streak can last.

Pete Rose went 44 games and he wasn't a power hitter by any stretch.

Schilling in the 9th...just before every pitch he made, 200 camera flashes went off...It was like before the first pitch of the World Series from Tim Wakefield, only they did it before EVERY PITCH that Schilling made...the man is a god in this town...

Yes. I work there (yellow shirt Aramark-guy)...we stop selling after the 6th or so, and when im done I usually go and watch the rest of the game...my Fenway ID gets me where I want to go... ;)

Im not working tonight because I am recovering from last night and a night out with my dad...(I think I finally out-drank him last night...)

HaHa. He must be proud.
Hey, were you surprised they got rid of Embree? I know he's been brutal, but Francona obviously sticks with his guys.

I think this is what happened: Francona definately loves his guys from last year...and I think that the Sox brass was letting Tito have his way...as long as they stayed in first place and were hitting the cover off the ball...

I think that from here on out, it's goning to be all business...sentimentality is out.

Bellhorn is next...and Kevin Millar better hope he goes at least 1-3 each game until the 31st...
