Wil is my neighbour'daughter. Her real name's Wilma but she always wanted to be a boy so she wrote a song in wich she explains that she would like to be called Wil and it goes like this "Born to be wiiii-iii-iii-iii-iii-iiil..."

Ok, I fucked my title, "Born to be wild" was the song so if you'll excuse me, I brought my pencil, the teacher needs to see me after school...

AAAAAh, come on ! Who can do covers better than the Man. Once he covered a song, it becomes his, it's like he created it. You cannot listen to the original anymore once yo tasted DLR's covers.

And you know the Guy likes doing them.

But you definitly gets my vote about new material...

And CG, thanks for the lol.

I never had a problem with Dave doing covers. I wanna hear him do Can't Ya Hear Me Knockin and Hendrix's Fire.

And a ton of other tunes and lots more originals too.

And I wanna sing with him too...

I wanna do "If I can't have you" with him (and not Yvonne Ellimen's from Saturday Night Fever :D...I wanna sing Etta's lines, while he's my Harvey)

the way you hug me
the way you squeeze me
the way you kiss me

-Magic carpet ride
-Can't Ya Hear Me Knockin
-Hendrix's Fire
-If I can't have you
-The boys are back in town

Man, don't you like the sound of it ?

After you clean the wax out of your ears, I suggest you listen to Hendrix's version of "If 6 Was 9."

DLR7884
You will see that your statement can't possilbly blanket all the covers he's ever done.

Done !
I've cleared the wax, I made candles and did what you said. And I must say that I stick with Dave's version but I am not saying his version is better than Jimi's. I'm just saying that I like it better and when I'm hearing it I think of Dave's first.

I love Jimi but I did not join the JHarmy.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

For the record, I'm a huge DLR fan, but I don't wear blinders and say that everything he's ever done is great.

He fucking butchered that song.

DLR7884
Many others agree.

Well, I try not to wear blinders, I sincerely think Skyscraper is his weakest album but the man tried something different (he once told he wanted to be Prince for a while) and it's still interesting.

And I do love YFLM because this time, I think, everything he did scored big time...but as you said different strokes for different folks.

And I do love DD because I've been waiting for a cover album for a long long time and there it was...and I didn't have to force myself to love it. It happened naturally.

One last thing, many others may agree but I following the masses is not always the right thing to do.

I know you like DLRband and that makes two of us but he did not butcher the song. I played it differently wich is rule n°1 of a good cover.

I've got no problem w/YFLM. It's bettar than Skyscraper.

Please don't twist my words or alter my point. I said that he butchered the song, and that I'm not the only one who has said that.

I think rule n°1 of a good cover is doing the original song justice, not fucking with it to the point where it's unrecognizable.

DLR7884
Techno cover songs are played "differently."

I think that when you cover a song, it shows that you love the song. I'm not quite sure about the doing justice argument. I don't imagine Dave saying "Who, if 6 was 9 is a bit rusty, I must do justice to that song". I just suppose he loves the song and wants to sing it. But I get your point. What I like about cover songs is the way the artist takes the song and plays with it. I think the whole DD is terrific for that but I didn't know much of the original versions. On the other hand, I consider "Dancing in the street" a failure.

The techno versions are...interesting. I don't find them entertaining but they're interesting. I guess it depends if you dig techno or not. But it's a way to introduce BigRock to nonlistenners.

And I did not mean to alter your point but I don't buy the I'm-not-the-only-one-who-as-said-that argument. Even if I was the only one loving the song, would it make a difference ?

And he certainly did not butcher the song. Bodycount covered "Hey Joe" but their version is too similar to be really interesting. Willy DeVille's version was far far better. And Roth's version of 6 was 9 is glamourous.

The last thing on my mind is picking a fight with you. I'm not here to pick fights. I'm here to talk about DLR. And Man, you most certainly are good at it. So I'm very proud, as a newcomer, to have had to conversation with you.

I absolutly respect your opinion. You think he butchered the song, I do not. I'm totally cool about it but, Hey, I like the Man, I like his voice, I like the way he sings, I like the way he entertain and I really did not assume you were that unflexible about the Hendrix cover but I like the way you argue.

If you come to Paris, I'd sure be happy to offer you a beer.

Salute.

Heres a cover song for Dave...and it relates to the still-ongoing Van Halen Soap Opera....
How Many More Times by Howling Wolf and Led Zeppelin.
