I used to be able to latch on to a sattelite and view real time

I think they must be, cos I checked the cars in my street and they were different, however it must be really recent as they are doing roadworks at the moment which I can see, the trees at my house
look about right too .... I could see my pool and my neighbours
car !

If it was realtime I was going to go park my car out on the street
and see if I could see it.. :D

That would have tripped me..

Actually Im not sure, I think its live but delayed...

You have to download a viewer app, then it takes a streaming
video feed...

Very cool, you can spin the whole world and zoom in anywhere.
Good for when you are bored, I just tracked down a few old
places I lived..

It's not real time. I was checking the program out with a friend the other day, and the photo of his house showed his truck parked outside. Which it couldn't have been since it was parked outside my house at the time.

Great little program though. Picks up where Google maps left off and amplifies it by 100.

even the road to the neighbourood isn't there...

Five years ago ???

Crikies, our pics are more up to date than yours then, they have just
started work on a new interstate a few miles from me, and its clearly
visible... Maybe Australia just got added or some crap ??

Coverage is a bit limited at the moment and it seems to eat hard disk space.

Understandably it's pretty US centric at the moment but it would be a bit better for me if they had hi res mapped Scottish cities rather than our fucking golf courses...:)

It'll be brilliant in a year or two.

I doubt all the pictures are 5 years old. They managed to get a clear shot of Bush Jr. riding his bike.....

...unfortunately this picture was taken about 5 seconds before he fell off. That would have been a better picture :D

Ha Soul Reaper...the fish-slapping dance!! LMAO!!!

Yeah the Google Earth service can only use the available images.

If you want the most recent images with best quality, go to terraserver.com. You have to pay to get the very best images...for instance, the free images available are only at 8 meter resolution. But if you buy a subscription, depending on the area, you can get up to 6-inch resolution. Some areas still only have B & W imagery available. Most large cities have the high-res colour images tho.

Microshaft is trying to get into the action as well...they have a service now called "Virtual Earth"
