I was listening to Journey`s "Escape" and Steve Perry owns that fuckin` LP with some of the most amazing singing ever.

It made my big toe shoot right up in my boot.

What singing on what album sends shivers up your back it`s so good?

What`s up with Journey?

Their biggest hits maybe ballads but there are some good rock numbers in there as well ("Escape", "Stone in love", "Chain reaction", "Seperate ways (worlds apart)" etc).

And if you think Steve Perry isn`t a great singer then you`re talking out of your ass.

He sang his ass off on some of those songs..."Seperate ways(worlds apart)" is one I still crank up.

I think Perry's a wonderful singer...but to be a frontman you need more then a voice...you need DAVId LEE ROTH BAAABY!!!

Just a small town girl, livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin’ anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to the feelin’
Streetlight people

One Of The Best Ballads ever, Hagar always try to rip off 'em, But defintly falls short, Didn't Journey Go on Tour With Van Halen in the late 70's if I can recall.

That screamin' on "Gonna Raise Hell" has to be up there.

"Hello There"

"He's A Whore"

"Elo Kiddies"

"Baby Loves To Rock"

"If You Want My Love"

"Auf Wiedersehen" (see screamin')

"Mandocello", "Worlds Greatest Lover", or "The Flame" for ballads....

"Anytime" from the 1997 release....

That dude's never lost a step....they blew Alice Cooper off the Amp-Itheater stage a few weeks back.

First box set nomination:

Sex, America, Cheap Trick.

I agree with some of the above LEAD vocal albums mentioned above, but there is more to a great vocal album than just lead vocals. With that in mind, I gotta say Queen A Night at the Opera.

As far as lead vocal albums, don't forget Alice In Chains "Facelift" (especially Love Hate Love), Judas Priest "Unleashed In The East" (Victim of Changes...holyfuckinshit!!!), and Soundgarden "Louder Than Love" ( check out Big Dumb Sex)

Wow, Victim of Changes!
I think I seriously injured my throat trying to imitate Halford on that one.

Uh, that didn't sound too good.

I agree with all

not that it's worth much, steve Perry can sing like six MF'ers sometimes

but he rules in the( Soft?) Baladarific Rock style.

The only vocals that will give me shivers are some girls's. Janis, Aretha, Tina, Catherine Ringer (from the French Rita Mitsouko), Kate Bush (ahem!... :o)...

They won't give me the shivers, but I dig the vocals in "Sergeant Pepper", the Beach Boys' stuff... but that's so obvious.
A bit off the track, you also have the Pretty Things' "Parachute" (1970), that I'll recommend once again...

Damn right, they can say all they want, throw together a band of whomever, but it ain't Skynyrd without Ronnie. He's probably turning in his grave seeing what Rossington has done to the Synyrd name. One of the best vocalists of the last 30 years, and without a doubt one of, if not the best songwriters.

The live version of Simple Kind of Man off the OMFTR album makes the little hairs stand up.
