I've heard from various interviews that HINA is a very personal song for David Lee Roth.

I've heard HINA means a chick in Japanese.

Hina is a polynisian (or something south-pacific) for 'Moon'.

One of my favorite songs, also.

Ive always thought that Dave probably wrote it on some Jungle Studs excursion (with OJ?) while kayaking on a quiet moon-lit night.

Hey Cato does "Unkowadi" mean "I just finished taking a shit" or something like that? That's what I've heard.

As much as Vai gets knocked for his rhythm playing, and in many cases I agree, I think on Hina it's great.

The way the delays echo and bounce off each other as the riff shifts around is very cool.

Also really like the overall mood of the song.

Really, I think Hina and Damn Good are the only decent cuts off that piece of shit album I like to call Skycrapper.

Agreed, always thought that tune was very well done.....
I love how people try to figure out what Dave was thinking when he wrote the words, like anyone really knows, lol.....:D

That was kind of negative re. Skycrapper, I know, but it's honest. :D

I like Skyscraper, although most of that is related to great memories of time spent down south with my late parents, I listened to that album 500 times lying on the beach in Mexico with many beers in hand, ahhhhh the good old days.....

I agree. I thought Skyscraper was a good cd. I like most songs on there except maybe Damn good. I always found that song to be forced fed. It just didn't seem to fit Dave's personaily.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Memories associated with albums can be powerful things. I have similar memories of listening to VH on my new Walkman on camping trips with my parents and family.

I don't see what was so offensive about this thread that the whole thing had to be carted from forum to forum, then brought back from the dump to here, which is a weird place for it anyways.

I personally think Skyscraper is Dave's best solo. I know it's very polished and slick, but I like it. I can see why Sheehan left though. EEAS was balls to the wall, in your face. The only tracks from Skyscraper that sounded like they could have been on EEAS are Bottom Line, Hot Dog and a Shake and maybe Knucklebones. Just my opinion.
