OK, ok I'm going to confess, perhaps I love Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Dio, Megadeth, Sabbath,...etc) I also like to hear for moments:
The Beatles, Billy Idol, Survivor, even Rick James.
Worst than that......I also like Thriller album from Michael Jackson.

Is there someone worst?

Warham

Depends, considering I own the ENTIRE Survivor catalog...guess it's all in how you look at it...

Well, I personally enjoy both eras. They were certainly a lot more than just the "Eye of the Tiger", honestly. There are really 2 Survivor eras: the first with vocalist Dave Bickler, whose voice always struck me as very working-class, gritty, and stripped down to the basics (this is the guy singing on "Eye of the Tiger"). They did several albums with Bickler (Survivor, Premonition, Eye of the Tiger, and Caught in the Game).

The second era of Survivor was with Jim Jamison, whose voice is really more of the AOR flavor...think, um, Joe Lynn Turner...that sort of thing. He's a great singer, though, honestly. They did several albums with Jamison: Vital Signs, When Seconds Count and Too Hot to Sleep (Too Hot to Sleep being, IMO, this only real shit turd that Survivor ever put out - one good song and the rest of it's crap).

Truth be told, Survivor had far more radio hits with Jamison than they ever did with Bickler. With Bickler they had, basically, "Poor Man's Son" and "Eye of the Tiger"...I think maybe "American Heartbeat" got some airtime, but I can't remember. Now, with Jamison, they had airtime hits with "High on You", "I Can't Hold Back", "The Search is Over", "How Much Love", "Is This Love", "Desperate Dreams", "Burning Heart", and "The Moment of Truth"...all of which I can remember being fairly well rotated radio songs in the mid to late 80s.

Basically, after Too Hot to Sleep, there was a very basic Greatest Hits album that appeared and vanished out of print about as soon as it was released and the band split up to all go on to other things.

Now, Greatest Hits was re-released in 1993 with Dave Bickler returning to add vocals to two new songs (both of which were kinda ho-hum). They did a few offbeat concerts and split up...

Jim re-ignited the whole Survivor thing back in the very late 90s (or maybe the early 2000's) with a band called Jimi Jamison's Survivor, but that I've had a really hard time tracking down and I don't think any of the real band was actually present on it...so I haven't put a lot of effort into it, either.

Either way, Jim got back together with the REAL Survivor, which is, essentially, Frankie Sullivan (Guitar), Jim Peterik (Keyboards - yeah, the guy that co-wrote Heavy Metal on Standing Hampton...) and Marc Drouby (Drums) and a new guy on bass, I believe, and they've released since a 2 CD best of comprehensive set and are trying very hard to get another album together...in the downtime, they've been hitting fairs, casinos, those sorts of gigs just to keep the bills paid.

In a nutsell, if you're looking for the rougher edged Survivor, the first four albums are your ticket...it's not metal, not anywhere close to even, but it's just good all around hard rock. "Premonition" is, probably, their greatest album all told, and the most solid from one side to the next.

Oh my God, I've just did a dissertation on Survivor.

I must be gay.

Except that "Soldier of Fortune" album...that was pretty silly.

BUT -

Had some OUTSTANDING guitar work on it. No taking that way! But uh..."red light shooter, I'm a win or loser!" really kinda wrecked the whole thing for me...lol

Sorry, no flaming intended.

Yet.

I love the rock version he did to the Transformers theme.

Sure you can: Great songwriter. Wait a couple of years till Rick Rubin has completed his Cash-style makeover of Diamond and he'll be too cool for the room!
