I want a real accurate eddie tone using only one of these seymour duncan humbucker pickups:

Ok, for stock Seymour Duncan you need a Custom Custom. HOWEVER...buck up and spend the extra cash on their EVH 1978 custom shop model. THAT pickup is apparently dead nuts on.

I swear by Duncan Customs, and can get a very warm tone with them. I find Custom Customs to be a little too bright and harsh. Just my opinion though.

Same pickup as a Custom but with a weaker magnet. I don't find it to be bright at all, but they might be in a maple fingerboard guitar. (Mine resides in a rosewood fingerboard Kramer)

I think the key to Ed's early tone is not having too strong of a pickup. You certainly couldn't achieve that tone with say a DiMarzio Super Distortion or a Duncan Invader. I would stay around the PAF area for a good approximation. I have heard a convincing VH1 tone done with a Duncan JB...of course it didn't hurt that the guy playing was using a '68ish Marshall Super Lead either.
