German musicians seek more cash for more notes

BERLIN - A group of musicians with Bonn, Germany's Beethoven Orchestra is suing its employer for a pay raise, claiming to play more notes per concert than other members of the orchestra.

The 16 violinists claim to work more than their colleagues, who play instruments like the flute, oboe and trombone. They also argue that the current collective bargaining agreement, which gives bonuses to people who play solos, is unjust.

The orchestra's director has called the suit "absurd," but the case is scheduled to go before a labour judge in May.
