With all this Clear-Channel free-speech stuff going on, the local radio station played Zappa talking about free-speech...

That dude was right-on. Anyone else heard that rap on free speech by FZ?

(I might have to move this to "house of music" or "front line"...we'll see which direction it goes..)

They had Dweezil on The Regular Guys morning radio show here awhile back.Larry mentioned something about (Dweezil and Moon Unit) being raised in a hippie environment or something,Dweezil was like,"What the fuck are you talking about? He made fun of hippies"!.Funny as hell

"Women's liberation, came sweeping all across the nation
I tell you people I was not ready
When I fucked this dyke whose name was Freddie
She gave me a little speech then
And tried to make me say when
She had my balls in a vice but she left the dick
I guess its still hooked on but now it shoots too quick
Oh God I am the American dream
But, now I smell like vasoline
And I'll do anything to get ahead
I lay awake at night saying 'Thankyou Fred'
Oh God Oh God I'm so fantastic
Thanks to Freddie I'm a sexual Spastic
An' my name is Bobby Brown
Watch Me now, I'm going down"

Frank Zappa-proof that you can be intelligent, funny and American :D

Zappa is the man....a genius of composing and other things....a devilish guitarist, i might add....

I don't know about genius. I've heard huge amounts of his music
and think its great but if I wrote some of the stuff he wrote on this
site people would call me a wack job and delete it.

So to me allot of Zappa was how he presented it.
If one person says your a genius suddenly everything you do is
looked on with "Star Quality Amazement" and some of his writing
is the ramblings of a Mad Man.Yes /No.

Like I said jus depends on How its presented.

9 out of 10 times Davis. Brass is everywhere man its universal
transfers fron classical to blues to rock name it.

Miles Davis is the sh@t.I would put on- Rick Braun- first ,then follow
w/ Davis.:)
Davis could take a lesson from Braun?
Na there to close in talent jus a lil diff style.Yes /No ?

Zappa was too fucking much. His book (The Frank Zappa book) is essential reading.

Had half a brain in his head, strong ideas of what he wanted and didn't feel the need to placate everybody. Little wonder he didn't flourish commerically...even less wonder why he found the 1980s so abhorrent.

Can't imagine what he'd think about what's going on in the world today.

This thread is a year and a half old. I just bumped it up to see if Den was still around.

"Catholic Girls" is a funny song. That "Joe's Garage" record is a laugh riot in general. It's all subjective...Zappa was a lampoon master. Genius? probably....he never bought into the artsy fartsy angle.

Bravo Frank.

Is he ever mentioned regarding the prog rock resurgence? probably not....I dunno.

It woulda been grate if he'd smashed Robert Fripp in the face with a blue cinder block though.
