Church's Anti-Halloween Flier Upsets Family
Complaint Filed With Police

UPDATED: 8:09 am MDT October 20, 2005

ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. -- An Ellettsville family whose home is decorated for Halloween contacted police after someone placed on its porch a flier that suggests Halloween praises the devil.

Dalene Gully told Indianapolis television station WRTV that she took offense to the flier, which was placed outside her home by the House of Prayer Church of Bloomington.

"I started reading it, and I was very, very upset by it. I found it very accusatory and very threatening," Gully said.

The church's pastor, Larry Mitchell, said the people who left the flier would have preferred to talk with Gully, but she wasn't there.

Mitchell said the church didn't intend to upset the Gully family, but rather tell people that Halloween isn't harmless fun.

"Halloween is not fantasy," Mitchell said. "We're training up our children, and obviously this lady was trained up in this. Halloween seems like it is taking just as much prominence as Christmas."

The Gully family filed a complaint with the Ellettsville Police Department. The incident also prompted the family to install an alarm system at the home, the station reported.

"This is my home, and I like Halloween. If I want to decorate my home, I have every right to decorate my home," Gully said.

Yeah, I'll bet the lady felt threatened.

"Help!!! The Christians are coming!!!" :D

She just wanted to stir up trouble.

I'm surprised she didn't call the Anti-Christian Losers Union (ACLU).

Why is it that morons who support a genocidal murdering thief as their pResident get upset about kids dressing up in silly costumes and begging for candy?

I overheard a conversation at work today between some people talking about how they take their children to a church event on Halloween. Apparently they dress up like whatever character from the Bible they want to be, and they gather canned food to give to the poor for Thanksgiving.

It's very noble, but that wasn't their motivation. They wanted to keep their children against "a satan worship holiday."

It is incredible that people can be that deluded.

Just shows you how being stupid, superstitious, and uneducated passes for being "Christian" these days.

If they had a clue, they'd find that Halloween is a pagan holiday that has little to do with the Christian bogeyman icon. But I guess so-called extremist "Christians" can play the morality card on anything and get a free pass nowadays, huh?

And why would they call the ACLU? An organization that has in fact defended Christians right to free speech in the past. These people were littering and trespassing, so they called the correct authorities. Nice mainfestation of a "persecution complex" BTW...
