Sylvester Stallone to Revive Rambo Role

Oct 28, 8:41 PM (ET)

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Rambo is back in business. Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as gun-toting John Rambo in the upcoming "Rambo IV," said Ben Nedivi of Millennium Films, which is producing the project with Emmett/Furla Films.

The 59-year-old Stallone also intends to bring boxer Rocky Balboa out of retirement. He will write and direct "Rocky Balboa," the sixth film in that franchise, with shooting set to begin next year.

Nedivi said the $50 million "Rambo IV" will recapture the rawness of "First Blood," which launched the franchise in 1982.

Production is set to begin after "Rocky Balboa" wraps.

Michelle Bega, a spokeswoman for Stallone, said the actor wasn't available for comment Friday.

A new "Rambo" script hasn't yet been written, but the story calls for the reclusive Vietnam veteran to return to his vigilante ways when a young girl is kidnapped.

The first three films grossed a combined $614 million worldwide.

What I wouldn't give for it to be about Rambo fucking up a bunch of Scientologists.

I'm thinking him sitting on the side of the road, and some magazine cover blows along. He picks it up, and sees Katie Holmes with Cruise.

Pan to a dream sequence of his Dawson Creek obsession, and he fucking snaps.

Next thing you know, Travolta's trying to figure out what's wrong with his Jet, and the thing blows up like a dynomite factory.

Tom takes Katie on the run by force, and Rambo chops Zellwiggers head off on route 66.

Maybe the Ventura Highway?

It just isn't the same without Richard Crenna.

Next, Sly will dust off his '49 Merc and give Cobra one last city to destroy.
Hell, why not give Kurt Russel a call and see if he'll put a dress on again for Tango and Cash: Part II...

He should just ride off into the night and forget dragging old icons out of the closet.
It never works...

That's funny...he said a few years back that Rambo IV was strictly off the table, after somebody handed him a script with Rambo taking out Osama...

As long as it's violent and gory as fuck, I'll see it. And as long as the character of John Rambo dies at the end of it. Kinda defeats the continuity of the actual "First Blood" novel, but all three movies really did that (for those not in the know, Dennehy's sheriff character shot and killed Rambo at the end of the novel - died in the book, lived in the movie).

Oddly enough, I'm still a Stallone fan, so I'll probably catch both in the theaters.

The next 'Rambo' should be about John Rambo going to NYC to waste a bunch of Al-Qaeda ragheads, which have entered the US via the Mexican border and are about to explode a nuclear device in Central Park. That'll give Rambo the opportunity of using his jungle warfare and urban guerrilla skills.

What do y'all think?

You have to admit, the original First Blood is a classic.

I absolutely love that movie.

Its only when Rambo II came out that things just got cheesey.

It's funny for all the alleged "patriotism" of the Rambo series, "First Blood" was actually filmed in Canada.

A small town named Hope B.C. to be exact.

Just happenned to pass through there the summer before that movie came out and when I saw the film, I thought "Damn, that town looks familiar".

The first WAS an outstanding movie, actually...

It was only with II that it got GAY. I agree absolutely.

Once a movie project becomes a franchise, you can't turn away fast enough.
It's almost like seeing Madussa and having your balls turn to stone mid stride...and you know that doesn't even sound comfortable...

You are correct, Sir.
Though he looks like he could pull off the Saddam gig with no problem, lol.

I did hear some buzz that this new film will be done in more of the same way Mad Max was done, before the sequels got cheesed to death with shitty writing and Tina Turner.
Beyond Thunderdome just sucked goat nads in Quebec...I hear it's a delicassy there...:)

What the post-apocalyptic world needs here, is an undead Goose. Extra crispy, and fulla hate.
