I'm beyond furious at this moment... I just saw what is quite possibly the most horrible r&b video ever filmed.
Has anybody else seen this horseshit by Black Eyed Peas called "My Hump"? The lyrics alone make Roy sound like "Chaucer"! I think you should have to take a class and fill out an application if you plan to use double entendres. Their instructor could be Dave or Joss whedon since they're the two best I've ever been privy to. And pardon my reaction but Sir-Mix-Alot's "Baby Got Back" is more tongue in cheek than this toilet paper substitute. How do bands like this get a record contract? Three black guys with a white female singin about her own "lovely lady lumps". I heard this shit and it made me get that "Uh Oh!" feeling like my chute didn't open.
This activated my gag reflex faster than "Thong Song". I have to side with Jeff Healey on this. He said he satisfied his contract and walked cause they wanted him to start playin fucking rock ballads cause "Angel Eyes" was so huge back then. He basically said "Fuck You" and started playin Jazz. They wanted to change his blues sound for the "hair band" power chords and he wasn't havin it.

Fuck the Black Eyed Peas, in fact fuck Hip-pop period. If you want some good new rock music that isn't Emo or Nu Metal, Get American Idiot man, Its like The Ramones meet The Who meet Pink Floyd. Best album in years. I still think its ironic how the music critics hated Green Day when they first broke the scene because they were fake punk, Than 10 years later they hailed as the "Saviours of Rock". The black eyed Peas are just the opposite of this, the media hypes them up and watch ten years from now they'll be on the same level of Vanilla Ice.

I gotta be honest. I have tried to force myself to watch that video on several occasions and I can't sit through the whole fuckin thing. I just can't. I'm embarrassed for them. Why? Cause they're singin it like its serious shit but it makes me cringe. I guess thats why it'll be a hit. I'm not anti-rap or anti-r&b or anything. I don't have a huge collection of it and its not always first in my cd player but some I can listen to. I can listen to BEP if I have to. Like at work it gets played and I can do that but I just can't listen to that song. I don't know if its subliminal messages or what but when that fuckin song comes on I feel the urge to get violent. Same thing happens when I hear Nu Metal. Not because I wanna break shit. I just wanna break the shit that sound is comin from then I'm good. On my way home today some jackass pulled up next to me with that song on and I turned up "Quicksand Jesus" and let it drown the shit out.

I read that Jeff Healey interview in a book store in Laudy a while back. One of the guitar magazines did an interview to see what he'd been up to since leaving music and I thought it was a very interesting read. He has a well to do night club a la "Road House" up in Canada that he sits in with every now and again. He owns the place and don't need the money so he said he thought about giving up on music altogether until he heard Robert Randolph and The Family Band play and someone else but I forget who. I remember Robert Randolph cause I saw him on some late, late, really fuckin late concert show last year and this dude plays a lap steel, pedal guitar like Hendrix man. This dude is wild and he's sooooooooooo good. Its the blues with a steel guitar and it doesn't sound like a novelty idea.

The thing I found amusing is that he said that even though today's top artists are still selling well, it's not like it was in years past. Oh, sure, buying music online has taken a dent out of instore CD sales, but even still, he complained, and I quote, "Today's artists just aren't connecting with the public for some reason".

And I thought to myself, "No fucking shit! I wonder why that could be? Could it have anything to do with the fact that the ENTIRE popular music scene today is PRE-PROCESSED CRAP THAT SOUNDS LIKE EVERY FUCKING THING ELSE OUT THERE, AND YOU CONSISTANTLY PROMOTE THE SAME FUCKING CRAP OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF TURNING ON THEIR RADIOS AND HEARING EVERYBODY SOUND LIKE EVERYONE ELSE?
