Chinese medicine

My doctor is a general practitioner and an osteopath. But he also devotes himself to Chinese medicine. He recently suggested me to try to solve my stomach trouble with acupuncture.
He told me about equilibrium, yin and yang... He said I had a "yin gap" in my stomach... :confused: :D
He also told me that in Chinese medicine food is divided into yin and yang, and that the thing is to balance both in your organism. Roughly, yang are vegetables and fruit: just what I eat the least, safe in summer... In a word, he meant I was all wrong as far as eating and, with the help of acupuncture and yin & yang principles, I could get rid of that stomach bug... Well, why not? :)
This and the rest sound very interesting, but before being pinned like a hedgehog, I'd like to get views from members here who have experienced Chinese medicine (or still are "adepts")... :o

The only one in my family who tried acupuncture is my father, who tried to quit smoking cigarettes with the "help" of acupuncure in the Pyrenees 25 years ago...
He got his ears pinned during an afternoon, and couldn't smoke... until the afternoon after. We had a walk in the mountain with my family, and on the way back, the first thing he did was stop at a tobacco seller's to buy a couple of packs of Gitanes. He was as pale as snow, literally. :eek:
So, he stopped smoking for one day... Maybe my stomach will leave me alone for about as long?

But my dad is a very special case. :D
Before being pinned myself like a hedgehog, I'd like to know the views of members here who may have experienced Chinese medicine (or still are "adepts") for any reason... Thanks! :cool:

It can't hurt to try.

I myself use some herbal remedies. As a a result, even when I get a cold or the flu, I kill it within a couple of hours.

There is much the medical establishment would rather sweep under the rug.

If doctors actually could cure verything, they would be poor in no time.

Hi Jerome,
I have tried both Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Few years ago I came out with psoriasis on my body I went to all sorts of traditional specialists none helped and told me that things would get worst to which I started really getting scared cos they told me it could get really bad I could not do anything to stop it. I did not believe then and I did some research and a friend of mine gave me the name of a chinese doctor that cured her of cancer and he his a skin specialist. I went and he gave me some really horrible smelling herbs that you have to boil. I did it for two month, it cost me a fortune but it totally cured me and I have amazing skin now. So I guess it is important one gets a good Chinese doctor that knows his stuff if not it can be a waist of money. Have you done any tests?Or have you been to a nutritionist?

Hi Millermoos! Thank you so much! It's amazing how it seems to be worth it... Curing psoriasis is not common at all, I'm glad you were cured yourself. :) As for your friend's skin cancer, it amazes me. But as HR said, if western medicine could cure everything, they'd head to ruin...
My doctor asked me 10 euros more (30 instead of 20) that he asked me to pay cash. So 20 will be refunded to me. Of course I am not complaining, considering how lucky it is to have the social security that we have (you pay much enough for it, though), but that means that State will refund 66% of Chinese medicine care... It would light a scandal out here! :o
Anyway, I'll go back for more acupuncture next week. I dig learning about that different way of seeing things.

That's the fastest shit I've tried. But boosting your immune system with garlic and keeping the blood circulating and clean with hot peppers helps quite a bit too.

So not only traditional Asian medicine, but traditional Asian food (the spicier the better) will improve health.

I had had a severe inflammation of the outer ear (the most painful) for a few days, and I had been on cortisone so far. I remember drinking punch all night long, like 8 pm through 5 am. That's it. I'm just back from my first acupuncture session. :) Amazing how you feel relaxed afterwards...
I got pins in my soles, my toes, my ankles, two on my stomach, in my thumbs, my wrists and one on my head, just above my brow. I laid in the dark for about 30 minutes. You can feel the pins just when they're stuck and once they are, mainly in your feet and hands, but it isn't painful.
I could immediately feel a nervous release. As time passed, the release got greater and greater and, in the end of the half an hour (twice as long as it should initially last), I still wasn't in a good mood, but I had a deep sensation of physical tranquility.
My doctor says I'll need a few more sessions to get rid of my big inner tensions, so I'll have more next Wednesday and so on.
I also left with a prescription for Chinese medication (concentrated extracts of plants) for two months.
I am very sceptical by nature, but I have to say that it seems to bring you some real help. I mean, that medicine is well-known for being efficient, but experiencing it is something positively surprising.

I spent a lot of time in Hong Kong growing up. Chinese medicine is like all other medicine. Some of it works and some of it doesn't. Even modern medicine that we all grew up trusting is proving to be full of scams. Especially the pharmacutical industry. Acid reflux medicine like Nexium have bigger marketing budgets than Budwiser or Coca Cola. What most doctors won't tell you is a change in your diet and eating less will usually cure the acid reflux without medication.

I'm not saying you have acid reflux but it certainly is a good example of why it's buyer beware in the medical market.

As far as Chinese medicine goes, I've learned by experience that a good share of it really does work. They take accupuncture seriousely. I tried to buy some accupunture needles in Kowloon and they wouldn't sell them to me because I did not have the propper credentials. It's worth a try.

Like all things, try and educate yourself enough to make smart consumer decisions. Internet chat rooms can be a great source of info or complete BS. I guess that's the information flood in general. Mining the trinkets of useful info in the the pile of crap.

Just remember some natural medicine does work, some modern medicine works, but the majority in both realms are looking to get rich and want your money. I think it's good to have a little distrust because in the end, it you that has to decide weather it's working or not.

It's funny you should put it like that. I used to have acid reflux pretty bad. Like waking up at 3:30 AM spewing acid up the esophagus bad. When I stopped drinking Coca Cola on a daily basis as part of an over all dietary change (Atkins) it stopped. And though my diet has modified from that, I still limit my consumption of carbonated beverages (used to drink them like water)

Incidentally though, the best medicine I ever found to relieve the symptoms immediately, believe it or not, was ALTOIDS.

An alkaloid based product with peppermint oil in it, just like Tums or Rolaids, but without aluminum or other shit your body doesn't need.

harder to become a permanet teacher there than it is here, lemme tell you. You can be teaching for only 3 years here and get your professional certificate. There there's a 3-year which renews into a 5-year AND THEN you can get your professional one.

But what I've seen of the kiddies in the one county, the education system doesn't seem too bed. I'd rather send mine there than to the wonderful NYC system.

I just think our current ass has been to one too many rallies. ;)

...Can't speak for the NY system, but trust me, there ARE a few good schools there, primarily in Charleston and Huntington( Kanawha and Putnam counties). If this tool is from where he claims to be, it's still dirt roads and pickup trucks, and not much "book learnin'".

No, but I was getting worried there for a while. If the dietary changes hadn't put a stop to it, I would have probably consulted a doctor about it. I don't fuck around with stuff like that (at least during times when I have health care coverage)

well, not to scare you or nothing, but me, my brother, my aunt, and my father never had any symptoms. Endoscopy was the only thing that told us. If you ever get the chance, just check it out incase.

Nobody else in my family seems to have the same problem so I don't think there were any genetics involved. Just the fact that I drank too much Coca-Cola. Adding phosphoric and citric acids to existing stomach acid several times a day can't be good.

There are other digestive problems that run in the family though which might hit me when I get older, and I'm not looking forward to dealing with those. Nothing life threatening, just a pain in the ass to deal with.
